So In the comics bane had nightmares of demonic bats when he was a kid and haunted him all his life. When bane heard of batman he believes facing batman was his destiny. That's why in origins you seen that he had personal grudge against Batman before he met him in person and here as well.

My favorite scene from the third act is when the statue of Batman is revealed. The cloth comes off, and as the cameras click away it zooms in on Gordon, sitting there with a kind of resentful grimace on his face. It's like he is just sitting with the knowledge not just of who Batman is, but of what it means that others don't. It's like he's sitting there feeling with the awareness of how everyone treated Bruce Wayne the public figure, how he sullied his name to save them. The awareness that they all turned on him so quickly, when Gordon and Batman came up with the plan to blame Batman to protect Harvey's image. No one doubted the story. They all stopped believing, save for a few like Blake. When he saved the city from Ra's, they still wanted him caught. When he was protecting the city from the joker, they still chased him. It wasn't until he, as far as the city is concerned, sacrificed himself to save everyone that they commemorate his life, his courage, his honor, his loyalty, his sacrifices with a statue in Central Hall - something the city should have acknowledged when he saved everyone from Ra's. When the statue is revealed, it feels like a "too little too late" kind of moment for the city, which I think is confirmed by the look on Gordon's face as the sheet comes down. It's such a powerful scene how it all plays together, especially with the very somber music that plays over the moment. The music, the reveal of the statue, the zoom in on Gordon's expression, the final shot of a close up of the face of the statue. It's just so good.

David Goyer quote I think you should see, talking about Ledger's passing. “Obviously, that would have completely changed the polarity of the third film. And, indeed, we didn’t discuss the third film until two or three months after The Dark Knight had come out. Chris wasn’t interested [in discussing] what might happen in the next film. He always wanted to focus on the film at hand. He didn’t want to lay any groundwork for something that may or may not happen,” Goyer said. “But it’s a logical assumption that the Joker would have been released, and it’s certainly interesting to think of what would have happened if we had done that.”
@Ammeeeeeeer
@Ammeeeeeeer Жыл бұрын
@@Xehanort10 Those were all ideas from Goyer's early drafts, by the time the Nolan bros revised the script any ideas about waiting for the third movie to resolve Two Face was out the window. Goyer is mostly used by Nolan as a resource, someone who knows the comics to provide the basic ideas and early script drafts ("Batman Begins" first draft written solely by Goyer was actually leaked online while the movie was being made!); for the actual writing and film-making he relies more on bro Jon, producer partner Emma Thomas, hell even Chrisitian Bale has more say on the final product than Goyer.

You really think that he wouldn't remember that moment more than anything, because it involved the child of the richest family in Gotham. On top of that, Gordon is a very good detective, which is another reason why Batman trusts him. He's not some idiot, so he put 2 and 2 together and no one else could be rich enough to do that, and have all those gadgets but him. Next time you decide to think, actually think.

I was lucky enough to watch this in theaters back in 2012. It's not my favorite Nolan Batman film due to some questionable writing and some of the acting. But I really appreciated the symbolism (the well and the prison, the use of masks as a way to deal with pain, fear vs hope, etc.) and how it all tied back to the first movie. Can't wait for you to see the Burton films next!

Fun fact: the mercanary at 17:17 is Christopher Judge. The actor for Kratos in the latest God of War games as well as playing Teal'c in the Stargate tv series. Anyway I enjoy Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy very much. The only things that didn't do it for me (as a Batman fan) was the lack of detective and proper martial art skills Bruce seems to possess. That being said, the overall storytelling, performances, worldbuilding, realism and production value are a major plus for me.
@dylana.9057

Bruce literally trained with ninjas in the mountain. His fight style is pure martial art fighting Some actually dislike it cause it's not the most entertaining to watch. But its very realistic
@JustJDx
@JustJDx Жыл бұрын
@@dylana.9057 It's realistic in a sense of general combat, sure. However Bruce training with ninjas barely has any bearing on the martial art skills actually shown on screen (like authentic ninjitsu). It's noticable, especially for people who practice martial arts. The whole setting in the mountain sanctuary serves and works as a training montage (for plot purposes). It's cool but that's it. There is never a proper (long shot and in frame) emphasis on Bruce's martial art prowess. Not in any of the three movies. The hand-to-hand fight scenes barely show any skill or mastery from the people performing them. The choregrapher still promoted it as the "Keysi Fighting Method" -integrating Kali, Silat, JKD and BBJ. However, it's abruptly cut or shot in a way you can't see Batman use specific techniques or styles. Obviously I know the background of the character, and I don't have issues with his martial skills in most other depictions at all. Usually he is a master of countless fighting styles. But as a martial artist of 30 years (of the forementioned fighting styles amongst others) Nolan's version is a martial art letdown for me personally. And that's okay; there are enough other things the trilogy excels at.
@dylana.9057
@dylana.9057 Жыл бұрын
@@JustJDx bro I've seen many analysis on the fighting style with a keysi fighter breaking down the fighting scenes in tdk. In rises the film pushes to use more brute force and less martial arts because of his enemy. And in begins the many cuts try to emphasize a creature of the night that comes and goes like a bolt of lightning. I'm.not saying tdk has the best choreography ever but saying there is never a proper long shot emphasis on Bruce's martial art prowess is not very true blud. Bruce seems very rigorous and technical in his fighting efficiency in tdk
@JustJDx
@JustJDx Жыл бұрын
@@dylana.9057 Let it be clear that this is all nitpick territory. I'm aware I'm going on a tangent here (apologies in advance) lol! I never argued that Batman wasn't fierce and efficient in TDK. For plot purposes he is. Yet his actual technical skills were underwhelming for me. Not to mention he moves (and looks) stiff as a board in that suit, which doesn't sell it. Almost all combat scenes in TDK involve no more than 3-4 sec shots at a time of Batman fighting an opponent. These are then edited together. To me that's not a long camera shot. Nothing particular striking is depicted in those shots either. I'm talking about the garage scene at the start of the movie, the penthouse fight and the hostage segment from the final act. He also uses his gadgets a lot, which makes sense, but do undercut his supposed hand-to-hand combat mastery as a DC character in this case. As you have indicated as well, in BB Batman mainly uses the shadows and deception to fight. That is awesome and works, but it doesn't allow the viewer to accurately see and judge the dark knight's knowledge and performance in martial arts. In TDKR Batman is a withered older man who is past his prime, so his way of fighting is different. That makes sense story wise. But it proves my point that he is rarely seen as the expert fighter we originally know him to be. The realistic tone Nolan used for his films shouldn't stand in the way of the visible implementation of fighting styles. And for me it lacked in that department. I would've simply enjoyed seeing a Batman that felt more realistic AND authentic. Not just a guy in a batsuit whose a good brawler. This version being a master martial artist just wasn't believable for me. Without his gadgets he didn't seem like a fighter bad guys would fear. I'm not necessarily criticizing Keysi as a modern hybrid fighting system but its value, effectiveness and choreography are undersold in these films. The same goes for the older styles it is mostly derived from. Whether it be due to mediocre combat direction, limited capabilities by the performers/actors, odd camerawork or the "choppy" editing choices. Knowing that Keysi has strong elements of Kali, JKD, BJJ and Silat as an instructor myself I was looking forward to seeing those onscreen. Quite recognizable in style and technique yet in the end barely recognizable in any of the three movies.

I remember when casting came out for this, and the fans heard Marion Cotillard was in it. We were all certain she was Talia al-Ghul. Then she came out denying it at one point, insisting she was an original character. But then images from the set came out, particularly the one of her on top a tumbler vehicle. It was pretty much a given by then. Besides, she was perfect casting for Talia as far as appearance goes. But when I got into the theater I forgot, I fell hook-line-and-sinker for her being Miranda Tate. So they really got me with that twist... of the knife.

Bane's speech at Blackgate is still my fave villain speech. Hardy only had his eyes and voice. Damn! Yeah, I remember watching this with my younger sister who knew nothing about the comics or Batman in general, but she recognized the girl playing "the child". This plus the Moroccan Arabic chanting, and Morocco being a former French colony, and Marion Cotillard being French and her character having a surname that basically means "Head" in French, she picked up on all those clues. I think nowadays with the girl being more famous, more people watching this movie for the first time will either be so confused as to why "Bane as a child" is played a girl or they would immediately guess the twist, especially if they have some knowledge of Talia from other Batman media.

I also like the Robin homage, makes me think that if Blake ever suited up he'd make a good Nightwing (Robin grown up) since his weapons are kinda like police batons. I think at the end when there's the "Robin" namedrop, It makes sense because this film wasn't setting up an extended cinematic universe. It was the end of a trilogy that was truly the end. But no one in the audience except for hands would have understood a name drop like "Dick Grayson". And imagine if the line had been, "try real name, Dick". That would have resulted in meme city. But everybody knows the name Robin, so I think it was a good and logical change that served the purpose of the scene very well. The next generation is secured.

Such a great movie! "John Blake / Tim Drake." Yeah, I thought the same thing. Nolan made it his own; that"s cool.

Don’t stop here, continue the modern standalone Batman movie marathon with Joker (2019) and The Batman (2022), ofcourse if you haven’t seen it and maybe The Dark Knight Returns as well since you mentioned that in the first part 😂

people still get confused about how Bruce got back to Gotham. Billionaires (even ex ones) have billionaire friends with private jets. It would have been super easy for him to call up a buddy and say he needed a ride.

Bruce didn't let Rachel stop him from being Batman. That didn't happen. He was Batman until all those prisoners were in Blackgate and his body stopped allowing for it. He let the grief stop him from having a life outside of Batman. That's what Alfred wanted for him. Alfred says Gotham needs Bruce Wayne and resources, not his body and his life. You might want to re-watch with that clarified, because it skews the movie if you think that. I mean Bruce doesn't move on from any of the tragedies or traumas in his life, so losing Rachel is something that he would always carry. And I think comparing Zoey to Anne's is a little unfair, because of Bane's screentime in the movie compared to Riddler's. The Bane backstory and focus meant we couldn't get hers. We know nothing about the Riddler's past after that 3 hour movie.

They used the name Robin because that's a character most people would know a person who has just seen the movies isn't going to have any clue who the hell they are referring to when it comes to Dick Grayson.

More recommendations: following phase 4 of the MCU, and Jessica Jones s1, X-men movies, Spiderverse movies (basicly more Marvel) (if you haven't seen movies, sieres): Pirates of the caribbean, Megamind (or any Dreamworks movie), Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Terminator 1-2, Kingsman movies, The Boys Lego movie, Batman 1989 and than Lego Batman (you'll thank me later) These are all movies that i think both of you would love, and all have a vibe to it that i feel also around you guys (I should say Star Wars or Superman II, but i know that you are planning to watch those soon

My only issue with this movie is the reveal that Blake's real name is Robin. It's a bit too on the nose and didn't really make sense to me. It would have been better if his real name had been revealed as "Richard", "Mr. Grayson", "Tim", or "Mr. Drake".

Dark Knight is my favorite, Begins is great (its the one that even gave us the rest) and I've lone agreed in retrospect Rises is better than I originally gave it credit for when I saw it. But honestly, us Batman fans are BEOND spoiled lol. We have almost TOO much media on this pantheon. All great in their one ways, even Batman & Robin for being so bad it's good.

Absolutely loved the comparison between Scarecrow/R'as' modus operandi and Bane's but y'all should really think about what the Joker was actually trying to accomplish before you assume he's the same. Every action dude took made Gotham a better place and if you really think about it everything he did that was messed up had a positive effect on the city so you have to wonder if he wasn't just trying to make them look at the state of the morals in their city. I mean it's possibly the most corrupt city in fictional history and the citizens there all either turn a blind eye or actively take part. Very few are actually totally innocent/good people moreso just cowards in general as a city
