Megyn, I went through the Annulment process after a 35 year marriage came to tragic end. And when people ask me 'why' I answer them this way with a few simple questions: Were you baptised? If the answer is yes, then I say "Undo it." Their reply is always, What? You can't. Then I ask, Were you Confirmed? If the answer is yes, then I say "Undo it." I get the same reply each time. How do you undo a sacrament? You can't. You can ignore it. You can rebel against it. You can come to hate it, but you cannot undo it. So, if that is the case, then how do you 'undo' a marriage? You can't. A civil divorce only separates earthly things, not sacramental heavenly things. You cannot nullify God's participation in these gifts, these sacraments. So what exactly is an annulment, which is correctly called a Nullification? It is not a Catholic Divorce. What it is, is determining who each of you were at the exact moment you said your vows, and whether there was any impediment to the vows on either of your parts in the sacrament itself. Without getting into the weeds of Canon law here, Who were you and your spouse at the exact moment you said your vows at the Altar? That's why those seemingly intrusive questions are asked. You are asking the Tribunal to go back in time to the exact moment of your vows to figure out all of the things that would have hindered or blocked your marriage from being sacramental. I learned more about what marriage actually is, as designed by God, by going through the Annulment process than I ever knew before. And one of my greatest sorrows was realizing that my former husband and I never had all that God had wanted us too. For many Protestants, this will make no sense because they do not consider marriage a sacrament. (And I was raised Protestant.) That's a whole 'nother subject. But for us, for you, there is a catharsis in this process, and a tremendous healing. I must tell you that the Tribunal of my Diocese embraced me and held me so close during the whole process. I cried hard, and they were always there for me. Always. They answered every question, and told me the truth, even when it was hard to hear. Again, I learned SO much about what marriage actually is as designed by God, and not what it is as designed by mankind. They could not have been kinder or more thoughtful. I hope your experience will be the same. The enemy want's you to recoil at this. He wants you to abandon your faith. He's going to try to draw you away to another sect, even another religion. He hates holy marriage, precisely because it is to mirror Christ and His Church. This is your garden of Gethsemane, Megyn. Don't give up. Pray forward. Pray into this. Pray harder. And Trust! Because either the Church is the repository of faith in all the sacraments you have already received or she is not. If you trust her with your Baptism, your Confirmation, Confession, the Eucharist, all of it, then trust her in this. Be at peace.

I went through the annulment process when I became Catholic. When my witnesses wrote their perception of my first marriage it reaffirmed that my marriage was a sham! My late husband’s first wife had already gotten an annulment but when my marriage was blessed I knew I was married! I also had the same experience with the Tribunal as my RCIA priest never told me I needed an annulment until 6 weeks before my scheduled 1st Communion. I arrived on the steps of the Archdiocese in New Orleans the next day and demanded to speak to someone. Back then everything had to go to Rome. I met with the head of the tribunal and the Monsignor explained I would not receive my first communion and confirmation at Easter…..but he would hand deliver my petition to Rome….and it would be granted by Advent! I have never looked back and my Catholic faith has led my journey through so much joy and times of trial. Mostly the illness and death of my late husband. But also my 38 years of sobriety! Every time I receive the Eucharist…..I feel the presence of the Precious Body and Blood of Christ❤

And may she be granted the gift of complete honesty regarding the reality of what appears to be her Catholic marriage that she wrongly refers to as her first marriage. Also grant her the grace to accept the Church's decision that may not bring about a decree of nullity, and that she will change her life accordingly instead of bitterly judging the Church because it fulfilled its obligation on behalf of sacred matrimony.

The story in the New Testament is, Roman soldiers came to arrest Jesus. He had a trial. Jesus was beaten and left on a tree for animals to eat. His feet might have only been a few inches above the ground. After he was dead for three days, his ghost appeared to many and then he rose up into the air and disappeared behind a cloud. Knowing what we do about how "gospels" were written, there is no reason to think that was a true story. The power of the Jewish God yhwh was greater than the Romans who destroyed the Temple in 70 AD. How can you even say "Jesus" with a straight face?

People like Megyn who take their sacramental vows seriously (or try to amend them) will in the end find solace and comfort in God. Only those who take the narrow road to heaven make it. St. John the Baptist was arrested by Herod’s because he accused Herod of marrying a woman who is his brother’s wife who still lived. He was eventually decapitated upon his order. Yes, our life on earth is about proving to God that you’re obedient to His commands.

Actually, Megyn was only partly honest as she attempted to point the finger at "these men" for her decision to not only leave her Catholic marriage without annulment, but also to "marry" another person and commit adultery in the process unless she never had conjugal relationships with her let's call it "secular husband." The guilt she feels more than likely comes from the realization that she went back on her sacred promise she freely made to God to be united in marriage until death with no exceptions. If a marriage relationship becomes very difficult to maintain after serious attempts to make better, there can be separation, and in the worst cases, there can be a civil divorce if reconciliation appears highly unlikely and for other considerations, but such a civil divorce does not impose a divorce on the Catholic marriage. Again, spouses can live apart, but only death of a spouse ends a valid marriage. Now, Megyn's attempts to point the finger at "who are these men to judge me?" is a dishonest effort to shift the blame for her failure onto others. To be truly honest is to not seek a way out of what appears to be a valid marriage, but to apologize to God for breaking her solemn promise to him, lead a chaste life moving forward, and see if a decree of nullity will be granted, which can only be done legitimately if it is found (not just claimed) that there was a significant impediment present at the time of her original wedding that made the contract she entered into with who is putatively her real husband void. If the marriage was/is valid as appears likely even based in part on how Megyn falsely characterized "who are these men to judge me?" which suggests she knows she was validly married and so dishonestly she is pulling at straws in the hopes that an unlikely reason for being granted a decree of nullity will be attained, then she has the option to do the right thing as set forth above or she can continue to dishonestly accuse "these men" and sadly live in defiance of the Lord for breaking her most solemn promise to him. Pray for Megyn that she drop any and all dishonest rationalizations, and seek to do the right thing by fully reconciling herself to the Catholic Church as she appears she would like to do, but at present, not in accordance with Church requirements that defend the sacred character of Holy Matrimony that, again, she knew all about when she entered into her Catholic marriage since couples are educated about such things prior to their marriage, and they must demonstrate a solid understanding of the requirements.

Dear Megyn, and Fellow Catholic. I am a priest, and in the past I have accompanied many in the path of the PROCESS of annumment. I hope the priest --and/or other ministers helping you in the process-- have taken the time to help you understand the nature, purpose and profound meaning of this process, which is mainly: a spiritual journey through very (unavoidably) human means. [Also: knowing of your intelligence, I am confident that even if they haven't done a good job, your capacity for research places you in great advantage over many "regular Catholics"]. What moved me most, in your testimony about your difficulties in the process, was the fact that before the final decree and convalidation of your present union, there is the impossibility to approach the Sacraments. To that, I say: Continue your [very powerful] role of being a prophet --by reason of your Baptism. Many, many times, our Supremely Good GOD, before giving us water, grants us the gift of THIRST.

As a teen ager I was in church almost everyday acting as an acolyte. College came, and I immersed myself in Catholic organizations. After I got working and raising a family, there was a gradual loss of 'connection' with the church because I was 'too busy'. And then I was attracted to this Protestant TV evangelist who was a great talker, andhe preached that people should 'research' about their religion and join the sect your heart and mind tells you is the one for you. So I did research and study which is the best church for me. It took me a while, but the more I re-immersed myself in Christianity, it became clear that there is really only one true church, and I went back to my faith with a greater understanding and conviction. I am now happily a Catholic again, and I have to listen to our great apologists often to keep the fire burning strong. I will die as a Catholic.

The process is a sham & just another exercise in patriarchal muscle flexing . 90% of annulments are granted these days & as one v poignant Kennedy woman said ( many years ago ) , annulling a marriage is as easy as driving a Mack truck thru ‘ . 40yrs of marriage and 6 children later annulments are doled out line candy by parents having to tick appalling boxes of false admissions . All the kids learn from this pathetic process is they r not quite illegitimate but close to !!!!. When their time comes to annul their marriages ( if they haven’t already questioned the bs and simply followed tradition of feeding the Ch scams ) they will know how to play the pompous clerical games of smoke & mirrors required of them . Hmmmm, hardly beneficial lessons in Truth ,hey ? Instead of feeding this corrupt institution we shoujd be questioning the stupidity of the Ch for not acknowledging the many many MANY valid reasons for divorce . Had these same kids parents got married outside the CC they would not be subjected to these lessons of deceit and game playing.

@marymonroe7042
@marymonroe7042 6 ай бұрын
@kennethbaker5223 It is a process that goes to a Catholic Tribunal. There is a Canon Lawyer that defends the marriage bond and a Canon attorney that represents the person applying for an annulment. The marriage would have had an impediment actully before the marriage took place. So there is many questions to determine an impediment such as couples courtship, their approach to marriage and many other inquires to determine if the marriage was truly a Sacrament or had an impediment which would make it null. And I am describing this as a layperson, so I am sure this synopsis is lacking. But that gives you an idea.

Indeed, but what will happen if the process does not grant her the result she seeks, and appears unlikely? Moreover, since a decree of nullity has not been granted, do you suppose Megyn is living without conjugal relations until a decision is reached? I hope so, but based on her defiance and stated history, it's unlikely. Megyn also has stated beliefs in opposition to other Church teaching, like what the Church teaches on IVF. Megyn, thanks for your honesty. I had my 1st marriage annuled after I married my present husband for 15 years. As I waited for my annulment process, almost three years, I would cross my arms for a blessing instead of receiving our dear Lord. Tears would stream down my face. My spiritual director told me to offer it up for so many that were receiving unworthily. A beautiful wedding gown stood waiting in my closet. When the day came for our marriage convalidation, I truly felt like the bride of Christ. Our youngest son who was 14 at the time walked me down the aisle. It is totally worth the wait. Happiest day of my life! When you reach that day, wear a beautiful wedding dress! I was not able to receive any sacraments for 3 years but I grew spiritually deeper in my relationship with our Lord and my husband🙏

With the criteria they use in these tribunals (several US diocese have a near 100% finding of nullity) ANY marriage can be found invalid as every marriage is made up of two flawed people. Annulments for centuries were very rare then exploded to the tens of thousands annually in America starting in the 70’s.

I’ve been through the annulment process too. Waiting over a year to go through RCIA when I was ready to receive our Lord in the Eucharist felt so unfair and I was impatient. But He was worth the wait. I also had to confess every sin I could remember since my baptism as a baby. That was humbling and so freeing. Just please be patient and know that the Catholic mass is the ONLY place that Jesus is present Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity. Just being there to worship Him and in His presence is absolutely worth it. It’s our duty as well. I struggle when I’m in a state of mortal sin I start missing mass because I don’t feel worthy to be in Christ’s presence. My priest told me that it is the devil who is deceiving me. Jesus loves, encourages and is merciful. The devil deceives, discourages and is condemning. This may help someone else. That’s why I am sharing.

I completely understand what you are saying, when you have sinned and avoid going to church. Father Is correct when he says that is the devil causing you to feel this way. He doesn’t want you to seek Jesus’ help because he hates Jesus. All the more reason for us to go to Mass and confession so we can receive the Eucharist. I find that when I receive the Eucharist it lifts my spirit up to God. When I go to confession I feel relieved that I am able to receive Jesus. When I was small and would have nightmares, my father would come into my room and make the sign of the cross + on my forehead and say the Our Father. He would tell me to tell the devil to go to hell where he belongs. But that’s the only one I can say that to because he is evil and trying to win you away from Jesus. I still do it. I’m now 78 years old. He was a real man of God. God is good in all things in heaven and earth. Trust in Jesus. He wants us to be with him. Sometimes when I receive the Eucharist I get so emotional that I find myself crying. Mostly because I’m so grateful and humble by His love and Grace. That He forgives me over and over and over is a purifying gift from God. I pray this pray ANIMA CHRISTI , Soul of Christ sanctify me, Body of Christ save me, Blood of Christ inebriate me, Passion of Christ strengthen me, Water from the side of Christ wash me, oh good Jesus hear me, within Thy wounds hide me, suffer me not to be separated from Thee. In the hour of my death call me and bid me come to Thee, that with Thy angels and Thy saints I may praise You for all eternity. Amen. My favorite prayer after receiving Holy Communion or anytime.

Then why would you ask anyone to pray for you or you yourself keep anyone in your own prayers? Yes, Catholics also believe that Christ alone is our mediator. But we also believe that any who have died and may now been given the reward to be in heaven can also pray for us. Thus, we ask the Saints, who are nearest to our Lord, to pray for us. As far as a PERSONAL relationship with the Lord, why would he teach us to pray "OUR Father..." and not, "MY Father..." It was for ALL that He died and resurrected, wasn't it? Thus, as Christians, we are to walk as He did, with humility, poverty, and for the good of others. In that walk, and through the Eucharistic feast He taught us to do, we become united with Him in bringing about His kingdom, which is meant for ALL. Catholics are not all about ME, but all about WE.

Well into our respective 2nd marriages, my wife and I converted to Catholicism and went through the annulment process. I thought it was dumb. Then I started attending regular Mass and leading a men’s Bible study. Through this I noticed our marriage growing stronger. Now, by the grace of God, she’s pregnant with #4 which is an extra special blessing with us being in our mid to upper 40’s. I came to realize that Marriage, as a Sacrament, is so much more than the ceremony. It’s ongoing and present in our each and every day. Having gone through the annulment of our first marriages allows us to see the blessings present in this “final” marriage. Where two are present, so is He.

I'm curious: On what basis do people get an annulment?
@michaelthrone
@michaelthrone 6 ай бұрын
@@kennethbaker5223 An annulment is actually a decree of nullity, and what it proclaims is that there was a significant impediment to entering into the marriage contract at the time of the marriage, so that the contract was invalid and an actual marriage was not contracted as presumed. It is very difficult to achieve an annulment because the 2 partners go through marriage preparation, typically for at least 6 months, and during this preparation, the elements of marriage and the marriage contract, etc., are discussed and made clear. As such, ignorance of some important element in the marriage contract is unlikely, and just claiming ignorance won't fly. Typically, a decree of nullity comes about when it is discovered and proven that one of the partners held back some pertinent information (previous marriage still in effect, mental illness, etc.) at the time of entering into the contract that renders the contract void. Bottom line: People don't actually get an annulment like a divorce. An annulment or more specifically, a decree of nullity, is a declaration that the presumed marriage contract was invalid. This is why it takes time, and it requires investigation into things that could make the contract voidable, so what people ignorantly cry about the process is necessary to make sure of the decision.
@DavidOatney
@DavidOatney 6 ай бұрын
For a declaration of nullity to be granted their have to be grounds. For the grounds to be valid they're going to look at the situation in the relationship as it was on the day of the wedding. Was there some defect in the consent. Because the Catholic Church views marriage as a sacrament, all sacraments other than baptism for an infant must be entered into with full consent and freely. Was there some way in which that consent was lacking, did one party or the other not have complete knowledge of something they should have known about their potential spouse. Was there some way, for example, consent could have been lacking? Weddings where the spouses are really too young to give full consent are often grounds. So our situations where one spouse or the other was carrying on a relationship with someone before the marriage took place and the other spouse was not aware. Those are two of the most common grounds. Defects of form where you have a Catholic party but no proper church wedding is also grounds because the Catholic party ignored their Sacramental obligation. There is a lot more to it, but you can't really explain the details in a KZbin comment!

Some commenters here do not understand is that a Catholic annulment is not a divorce. It requires understanding if a sacramental marriage even took place. There can be different causes, and need to be examined. As for there being a monetary cost, there is work and time put in by those with this responsibility, and, practically, they earn a living this way, just as other professionals. There can be waivers for those in financial need. Most important is one's relationship with God, and one's sincerity of belief. My son had a heart wrenching divorce, but found some consolation in seeking and receiving an annulment by the Church. Then felt free to give his heart again to a most loving woman.

Jesus is in Catholicism. In fact, Catholicism points to Christ and invites us to a deeper connection to him. I speak as a lifelong Protestant Christian. I’ve gone through changes in life. In the pursuit of growing closer to and to remain in Christ, God has brought Catholicism into my view over the past 5 years. I’ll skip the details of my Catholic exposure over the first 4 years for the sake of time. Most recently I moved back to my hometown and was in need of a new church home. Being the South, there are lots of Protestant churches of various sizes and denominations in just the couple of small towns in the area (less than 3,500 in population). In my prayers to God I kept hearing him say to go to the Catholic Church of the area. Since then I now attend Sunday mass, attend RCIA classes, working through being a sinner even as a lifelong Christian, and have the intent to become a fully initiated Catholic. Everything I’ve loved about Christ and Christianity in the Protestant faith IS IN the Catholic Faith. I still have much to learn-as all Catholics do throughout life-but this is where I follow now that I know more. Oh, and I attended a 4-year Bible school with music and theology classes and prayer in a 24/7 prayer room as a required part of the curriculum. So I’ve been in ministry and I know a lot even in my family with a retired Protestant Pastor Grandfather.😊

@@tstjohn777 Even with the Word of God there is still the factor of interpretation of the Scriptures. We have multiple denominations in the Protestant world due to differences in interpretation and traditions rooted in them. I say this as someone who has been raised on “Sola Scriptura” (scripture alone) throughout my life, lived it, and then currently learning the Catholic perspective and/or tradition that the Scriptures and Catholic tradition are (as I currently understand it) are of equal importance, are both safeguarded by God’s power and promises (think of “not one jot or title of the word will pass away from the word of God” concept). Before in personal areas of my life I asked myself, “Do I trust God to help me have the means to get what I want/need WHEN I want/need it, instead of hoarding onto things?” This sense of trust in God has now bled over onto the traditions of the Catholic Church, namely the Catechism. Do I trust that God has the ability to safeguard the teachings of the Church, that she would not be overcome? God invited me into the Catholic Church. When I say, “God told me,” its the same voice of counsel and instruction that always invites me into something rather than command me to do something (aside from what is commanded of Christians in scripture). I’m completely on board with you that we need Jesus. No question about that. But it is also wise to remember that Christians do not just follow our own experiences of Jesus in isolation from other Christians and their understanding of Jesus. I stayed away from the Catholic Church in my youth because I was taught that it was evil, that THEY were in compromise (that’s how the Catholic Church is often portrayed in Protestant church history books, and even world history books). In spite of the humanity of the Catholic Church-just like how all other Christians are sinners in need of God-it is still beloved by God and used by God. They’ve just had over 2000 years of history compared to a couple decades to a few hundred years of the many Protestant denominations.

Your sins will cause you great suffering. Your Catholic Faith will cause you great suffering. It’s not a choice between do I suffer or not? It’s do I suffer shame and consequences of sin or do I suffer for doing good even when it breaks me? Because at the end you realize God was like a sculptor using pain to shape, mold and remake you into what He had in mind when He created you. I’m so glad I don’t have to spend my last years looking back in regret because I was too selfish to do the right thing. @@edwardrangel6323 Well, can a person who was never in the military or in Iraq protest the US military presence in Iraq? Can a woman teacher judge male students, or a woman judge, judge a male defendant? This idea that we have to share the same gender or social characteristics in order to be "fair" to others is ridiculous. But as you correctly said, the "annulment process" is not about pastoral care or counseling, but determining if a valid sacramental marriage existed from day one. The problem is that so many Christians believe that simply falling out of love with one's spouse is grounds for annulment. But truly valid annulments are extremely rare. This is not because the Church is hard-hearted, but because the Church follows a man named Jesus Christ.

The annulment process is a healing process. The very beginning is extremely painful. But it is worth it in the end. If the one leading you through this process is not guiding you through this healing, find a priest or deacon who will guide you properly. Always remember; there is the Catholic Church and then there is the church organization. The organization is run by man and very fallible. The Catholic Church is under the protection of the Holy Spirit. Stay faithful to the Catholic Church. Always.

The best reason to be Catholic is the belief in transubstantiation. I am not Christian, but I have studied Catholicism extensively, and if I were to be Christian I'd be Catholic hands down. No church even comes close. Read Jesus and The Jewish Roots of the Eucharist by Brant Pitre and I think any logical person would be convinced of the validity of the church's teaching on this subject. And it's such a beautiful truth, I can't imagine being Christian and settling for the idea that communion is just a symbol. I also understand Megyn's feeling - why does a human being get to sit in judgment of her marriage? Catholicism is a sacramental denomination. Another-words, the sacramental approach sees the divine in the human and God in all things - the visible, the finite, the historic etc - it is in and through these physical, or material realities, that we can encounter the invisible God. "the function of a priest (and the church) is not to limit the encounter between God and the human person, but to focus it more clearly for the sake of the person, and ultimately for the sake of the community of faith." The church is obviously very imperfect, but I do believe it has authority, as the church founded by Jesus. I got that from reading a book on the early Christian writers and the early church was so obviously Catholic, it's hard to deny if you read them. Final thought, if anyone is reading this at this point, but Bishop Barron's book Catholicism: A Journey Into the Heart of Faith was what got me into Catholicism in the first place. It's a great read and made me fall in love with Catholicism - particularly the point he made about Catholicism's emphasis on the incarnation. Beautiful.

Megyn, I’m glad I stumbled upon this video. I am going through the process now, it’s is slightly different. I am much older than you, remarried 11 years ago, not in the Catholic Church and my husband isn’t Catholic. The past few years it’s been gnawing at me so the process began with my speaking with my Pastor. I was divorced in 1978 from my first husband, I got my annulment several years later so I was good but was not going to Church on a regular basis, not receiving Communion, not going to Confession. I was going to Mass on Sundays, hit and miss. A few years ago I started going regularly, found a Catholic Church that spoke to me. I told my Husband I wanted to see about getting married in my Church, he said he would do whatever it took. I was told that since he was married the first time to a Catholic in the Catholic Church, he would have to get an annulment. I was shocked at this but he said he would do whatever it took so he met with our Deacon, got the questions, struggled through (he had been married for 35 or so years and divorced now for 12). It was a challenge but he did it. All was submitted in January 2024 to the LA Diocese Tribunal (Catholic Lawyers). It’s definitely a process. I was told it could take up to a year to get an answer, we are hoping it is much quicker than that. I couldn’t understand why he needed an annulment, he wasn’t Catholic but nonetheless these are the rules/Canon Law. We don’t get to be Cafeteria Catholics (pick and choose the parts we agree with) if we are serious about our Faith. I have had many Catholics tell me how crazy it is and I should just receive Communion anyway but that is not me, I will go by the rules, not interested in piling on more Sins. I don’t know if he will be granted the Annulment but I’ve already decided that if not, I won’t turn my back on the Church. I am a Catholic, I will always be a Catholic and I’m grateful I was born into it and my parents raised me Catholic. I will be disappointed of course but God is in control, he knows my heart. I’ve made a lot of mistakes. Stay the course, it’s worth it. Ironically I will never be able to receive the Body of Christ, two years ago I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, the host is wheat. It’s a no go for me. There are Gluten Free hosts but the Vatican does not recognize them so that is out. The best I can do is to receive the Precious Blood and even that I’ll have to be sure there is no Gluten in it and I’d have to be the first person to drink out of the Chalice or have my own Chalice. We will work that out if and when the Annulment is granted. So for now, I wait and pray. The ceremony is called a Convalidation Marriage. I wish you the best ❤

@DavidOatney
@DavidOatney 6 ай бұрын
@@jwp2166 Jesus is more than not in favor of it, he prohibits it. Remember that he is God and if he says no, the answer is no. So if the answer of almighty God to divorce is no, then the Church, which is God's agent on Earth, the Church is the body of Christ and Christ is the Second Person of the Trinity... Has to then determine what constitutes a valid marriage and what does not. Christ gave the apostles the power to bind and loose, and this is right up that alley. You're viewing the faith wrong when you demand to know where in the Bible the practice of annulment is laid out. The need for it is laid out the minute Jesus prohibits divorce, because since Jesus made the prohibition, the church then must determine what constitutes marital validity and what does not. Because if a marriage is not valid, then the people involved are not married. Also recall that the canonization of the New Testament historically was an entirely Catholic process. It's our book, and the Protestants got it from us. The Church existed before the books were even completed, hence the Church can determine their meaning and their context, and she has.

I too read the Bible and have the Lord speak to my heart. I also have the blessed opportunity to receive the Body Blood Soul and Divinity of Christ daily. Talk about an eternal well of grace. The early Church is how the Catholic Church is, daily Eucharistic partaking. The Our Father translation is actually from "give us this day our "supernatural" bread." I grew up Catholic and trust me the damage the church did to me was horrible. Beaten and embarrassed daily by nuns in school, was told if I received communion without confessing my sins to the priest "not even SOS pads could remove that sin". Growing up with an abusive alcoholic father and finally having the opportunity to move with my mom and 8 other siblings into my deceased grandmother's home was heaven! (My father threatened me and my siblings every time he was drunk that he was going to kill me and blow my mother's legs off so she would suffer knowing all her kids were dead.) After a few months, the priest came to our home saying that my dad wanted her to come back. I was 10 and my mother's response was that he, my dad, wanted to kill the kids. The priest's response was, "Well you just need to trust God with that." We eventually went back to more abuse, and shame. When I was 12 my brother got married by a Methodist priest and our Catholic priest announced in church that anyone who married outside the church was living in fornication! Praise God that the bitterness I held towards the Catholic church and God has been removed through Jesus Christ. I am a born again Christian and absolutely disagree with the doctrine of transubstantiation. The Apostle Paul made it clear in 1 Corinthians 11:23-29 it is in memory of Christ's sacrifice and should be taken in remembrance of what He did until He returns. It is Christ alone that gives us salvation not the church or any other institution. We go to our different churches to grow in Christ (sanctification) but justification comes from Christ alone. Thanks for taking the time to read.

@@brookehanley3659 Indeed, and those who eateth and drinketh the body and blood of our Lord are eating and drinking condemnation unto themselves and also need your prayers and the prayers of others to seek forgiveness and reconciliation. Megyn Kelly also knows that attending other false churches does not bespeak a heart seeking reconciliation, which is what she also did. But now that she wants to be fully reunited with our Lord's Church, she can once again receive the sacraments even if an annulment is not granted, provided she do things I hope she will accept but such appears unlikely. This includes giving up conjugal relations with her "second spouse," and she also needs to repent of her mortal sins involving support for and use of IVF that almost always aborts unused embryos. Alas, Megyn Kelly's split from the Catholic Church goes beyond her decision to give up on her first marriage (assuming it was and remains a legitimate marriage still in effect), so reconciliation will be a heavier burden that she may not be able to bear without a firm purpose of amendment and extra grace from on high. Pray that she be given the strength she needs to once again enjoy full membership in the one and only Church that Christ Himself set up 2000 years ago.

Megan, my heart is telling me, where you brought this up with Fr Mike and now with Bishop Barron, that internally you feel the truth of the Catholic Church perspective on marriage. It’s not “man” in between you and God. This is what we as Catholics mean by Church Authority and apostolic succession. Christ gave His Church (your Church Megan) the pastoral authority to carry out His teachings as directed by the Holy Spirit. As the good Bishop said to you, the Church must respect Holy Matrimony as Christ directed. The Church is carrying out Christ’s’ direction. You’re doing what the Holy Spirit is guiding both the Church and you to do. Think about this Megan, what other institution in this world still maintains the beautiful and holy institution of marriage? Only the Catholic Church. I hope and will pray you carry the process to completion.

They promised God .......til death do we part . Breaking a promise to God ?? Must be a serious reason .......but Megan says “ he’s a great guy “ ........huh?

I just came across this discussion by chance. I’m a cradle Catholic and married within the faith to someone who supposedly was a raised the same. Unfortunately she withheld great secrets from me for over 25+ and then after 44+ years walked out. I’ve been struggling with this issue and will be requesting an annulment very soon. I really love Bishop Barron’s words.

My husband and I went through the same as we sought annulments from our former spouses. My feelings were exactly what you expressed, and as we went through this process, I found myself becoming angry that these people I didn’t know were delving into our my personal past. I tried different churches too, but I found deep in my soul I could never leave the Catholic Church. It took a while, but we realized it was the right choice to make, my anger turned to relief, and we both returned to the sacraments. So trust you are doing the right thing, Megyn. God bless!

Thank you, Megyn, for your openness and honesty. I’ve dealt with my own crises of faith, but I keep going because I believe the Catholic church is where I belong (even if it is full of the fallen, as all human institutions must be). I will pray for your spiritual well-being, and I trust that you will find your way through this. You’re an inspiration in so many ways. 💙

Something that has been going around and around in my head a lot lately and I have found it really helpful. With God Forgiveness is instant, Healing takes a lifetime. We ask that God guide Doctors in Surgery, yet discount the help a priest, pastor, counselor can provide. Bishop Barron is right, we need to let the process help us change and become more of what God wants us to me. It is also a witness (many times silent) that can provide hope to others.

Hang in there Ms Kelly. I returned to the faith 10 years ago because after decades of searching for something better I realized our church had it all along. Marriage is such an important sacrament that even your 1st marriage deserves the utmost respect.

God bless you Megyn for sharing your deep thoughts on what you’re going through. I have been listening to Bishop Barron for a long time & one book he published is “This Is Body”. He explain throughly from the Old & New Testaments! It will help you understand. I’m a life long Catholic, grew up with faithful Catholic parents who lived by examples & still learning! My husband went through an annulment & took a few months. We’re still friends with his ex-wife Cheryl. They were young & married for the wrong reasons along with counseling for 2 1/2 & but the marriage was broken. I’m Very blessed we have been married 23 years this month. I will be praying for you Megyn. God bless, strengthen & protect! Keep sharing truth! ❤

I went through the process. My wife was married and divorced and we were married by a justice of the peace. Something was missing so we went to the church and "litigated" her first marriage. We were then married in the church after she converted to catholicism.

I think she’s beginning to understand that her Mediator with the Father is Jesus, not an earthly man. She is desiring that personal relationship that is missing. I pray she finds it. I’m not Catholic. I call straight on Jesus to forgive me of my sins. It’s not delivered through another person. There is no other Mediator but Jesus Christ. I know through faith in His word that I have been forgiven when I call on Jesus in repentance. I can’t earn or work out forgiveness.

Christ alone offers absolution in the sacrament of penance. The priest acts "in persona Christi" but it is indeed our Lord who absolves when the priest prays the absolution and says "I absolve you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." For those uncertain about the sacrament, read the explanation in the catechism as your starting point.

@Angela-ep9pm then why did Jesus breathe on the Apostles and told them what sins you retain are retained in heaven? He gives us the gift of confession through the Apostles. Sure you can pray to God but there is a reason we have confession.

My current wife and I both went through the annulment process for our first marriages. It was by far the best and most important process I’d been through. You have to be brutally honest in the process about your experiences and failures in not properly engaging yourself with the sanctity needed for a proper marriage the first time.
