I had this guide back in the day and you know what REALLY pissed me off? The fact that they don't give the specific requirements to unlock the Creature Campaign hidden characters. The whole copy-paste "unlocked in the Tower of Valni, Lagdou Ruins or a monster skirmish..." led me to believe that all of them could be obtained from any of these, possibly randomly appearing or something. But NOPE. They're unlocked after clearing specific floors of the Tower and the Ruins, and there is NOBODY that is unlocked through monster skirmishes! I remember spending quite some time chasing down every last monster skirmish on the map hoping to unlock someone new. What a load of bullshit.

I suspect the growth rate ranking may be a relative thing. Dozla's HP is A, and is obviously his highest growth. Str is B for Dozla, and that happens to be his 2nd highest growth. Still doesn't change the fact that it's a weird way to rank it.

To actually get them to join you, after you've beaten the requirements, the next battle is where you unlock them, so after completing the lagdo ruins 3 times, then going to a skirmish, you unlock Leon.

I remember the Brazilian equivalent to Nintendo Power, here it was called Nintendo World, and in their strategy guide for Fire Emblem games, they only included the Chapters you got the units, how you get them and their Base Stats, nothing more. They used to say that since this is a strategy game, you had to make up your own. The 13 years old me thought it was bullshit, since I wanted to learn how to clear tough chapters. But today me actually thinks it's kinda nice of them not trying to spoil the essence of the game just for you to see the ending

Joshua has bad STR in the Japanese version? He have 8 base and a "D" growth, 13/14 Skill/Spd among A growth for both, when Joshua is probably the only Myrmidon from the GBA that DOESN'T cap Skill and Speed BUT actually caps Strength, at level 20 xd. Or my Joshua's stats were split somehow?

If you save the dragonstone for Darkling Woods, you can level Myrrh up to 20 in that chapter alone along the bottom half of the map. There no real need to use Myrrh before then

I always don't use Myrrh at all until chapter 20. She levels up super easily, so you can just send her east over the forest by herself and she'll reach lvl 20 before the rest of your party make their way around.

I'm really enjoying this series! It's very interesting to see a little into FE's past. I have one problem though: I know it's fun to harp on the overuse of "powerful", but to be fair, every unit in Sacred Stones is powerful (except for a couple, like Eirika.) Enemies can be steamrolled with ease and grinding exists (which the guide encourages.)

Just because a unit is objectively "bad" it does not mean you should not use them. You should use your favorite units and play in a way that suits your play style and how you can enjoy the story the most. i myself usually try to 100% the support conversation libraries in my FE games, so i end up using EVERY SINGLE UNIT multiple times. Its alot of fun and challenging at times.

Idk what you have against Lute but she is actually a high tier efficiency unit due to Warp use. In drafts she is a late 2nd round to early 3rd round pick (7th-10th overall).

Yeah, I mentioned her in my top 8 "bad" units. She's not part of an optimal playthrough since you only want to train 2 high maintenance staff users and generally Moulder/Artur are your best options. Lute can still work though, it's just a bit more of a pain to get her staff rank up.

I think that the growth rating is based on the highest growth rate of the unit, so their highest growth rate is A, and the other ratings are scaled down based on the highest one. Pretty weird way to do it tbh.

So I can there seems to be some distaste for waiting the full 20 levels before promoting. Is there a reason for this? I played shining force before fire emblem and in that game you really do want to level people up to the max before promoting. So I always get them to 20 before promotion in fire emblem.

It’s true from Mekkah’s perspective, but he plays these games in a different way. He favors optimization and reducing turn counts as much as possible. His reasoning might go something like this: “it is probably not possible without grinding or feeding too many kills to a specific character to level them to 20, promote, then level again to 20 by the end of the game. In order to get as much benefit as possible from each character they should be promoted as soon as possible for the promotion stat boosts and other gains (get a mount, more move speed, more weapon types). Doing so will make them more powerful for a larger portion of your play through.”

Caellach's stats aren't even right. He has 19 Strength and 15 Defense in CC, not 16/13. So they sold him a little short after claiming him to be "unparalleled", which is pretty ironic. They actually messed up more too. Orson and Valters stats are off as well, Orson has 11 Res and Valter has 12, along with 17 Speed. I think his HP is off too. They didn't even check the actual stats of these characters. Did they even unlock them at all?
