How good was Melanie???!! Beyond Excellent. I only regret I had lost touch with her music the last half century. This was my loss. Sad that it took her passing for me to rediscover her. The time just flew by. God bless her memory. What an incredible legacy she's left us. And she was part of my mother's musical legacy to me, because it was my mother who "discovered" her on WNEW FM in 1968. Beautiful people.

i, too, remember Melanie. i remember coming home from Vietnam, still a boy, exhausted with the sorrow, the hopelessness of years i had not yet lived, weighing on my soul. No one understood the burden i carried for the acts of a humanity i had seen spiral into madness during the war. But then, there wuz music. The poetry of lyrics that still held hope --- even for me who seemed to have lost it somewhere in those dark jungles. iyam here, today, because i found just enough light in the music and words of poets like Melanie, to try one more day. "They" can only destroy you if you allow them to. i found that understanding via the deep diving music of late 60's, and the early 70's. --Thankx Melanie

Artists like Melanie kept me from putting up with the destructive absurdity of militarism and from ever being seduced by war and the foul odors of patriotic nationalism. Bliss ... exactly the right word. I've spent recent days reminding myself of her music that I cherished in my youth. How many singer-songwriters can make you smile and weep at the same time, in every song? Who sang with so much depth, emotion, beauty, anger, love, power, courage? And with such a unique and uniquely lovable voice? Melanie, Gather Me; you are loved!

So many beautiful and meaningful people have left us and moved on - we carry on living because we have to but with every passing we lose a little of who we once were, what we once felt, who we once were. When they have all gone what will be left for us - just the memories of better times blown away with the brown dead leaves in the dust of time by the cold harsh winds of death.

Absolutely love Melanie, from first hearing her in 1970. My friends and I would meet in an evening and play records; these would be predominantly prog rock (Wishbone Ash, Yes, ELP etc). We would each take a couple of LPs....they would NEVER play any of mine because I wanted them to hear other great singers like Melanie, Peter Hammill (VDGG) and too many to mention, ......boy, did they miss out. I lost touch with Melanie's music in the mid 70s when I got married, didn't buy much music and career etc got in the way. Now discovering her again. Not heard much of Miley Cyrus's music but the video of them duetting Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma is superb.
