Great review !! F.Y.I African Black soap is not made from just dried up leaves . It is a combination of shea butter,cacao pods,plantain, palm tree derivatives etc. Her ingredients qualify to call it that.

Can you explain to me what ingredients qualify please?

@@naturallyphilo ingredients can vary for ABS. Since it's made with different ingredients a brand is supposed to list out the individual ingredients that make up that particular ABS.
@linzeeb4
@linzeeb4 3 жыл бұрын
@NaturallyPhilo I would say it qualifies, but uses naming conventions that use semi-scientific names where other brands get away with simpler listings. For example, you get charcoal powder by burning coconut husks, cocoa pods etc. It's basically ash cleaned up, we just don't see "coconut husk" or "plantain" on the list. It contains shea butter and argan oil which are both common fats that are saponified in African Black Soap. Shea butter is more common is West African varieties and Argan oil is common in beldi, North African varieties. Using palm and coconut oil plus sodium in the saponification process is common too, and both saponified palm and coconut oils are in Melanin Haircare's shampoo. I'm on my phone so I'm not going to go line by line, but I think the basics of ABS are definitely covered.

@@naturallyphilo ABS ingredients varies as it was dependent on what was available in different communities in the West Africa region . Common ingredients that are available in most W.A communities are Shea butter ,cacao, palm trees,coconut oil and plantain . Different tribes different combinations.

Nice review! There is actual black soap in the shampoo, it’s just that the scientific names for the individual components that make up black soap are listed on the ingredient list because “black soap” can’t be listed as an ingredient by regulation. Just FYI. 🥰💁🏽‍♀️

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this or not but the African Black soap shampoo does contain black soap. Black soap is not a single ingredient. They listed the components of black soap on the product list. Please do a google search on black soap composition guys 🤗.

@ MsNaturale true. African Black soap: Plant matter, such as plantain skins, palm tree leaves, cocoa pods and shea tree bark, is first sun-dried and then burned to produce ash (which supplies the alkali required to convert or saponify the oils and fats). Next, water and various oils and fats, such as coconut oil, palm oil, and shea butter, are added to the ash. The mixture is cooked and hand-stirred for at least 24 hours. After the soap solidifies, it is scooped out and set out to cure Melanin: *Shea Butter* *Cocoa Seed Butter* *Sodium Palm Kernelate* Oils and vitamin. She uses charcoal to get the black color rather than ashes.
@ArianaCrow
@ArianaCrow 3 жыл бұрын
NaturallyPhilo you won’t see a single ingredient called “black soap” in the ingredients list because the ingredients that African black soap are comprised of are in the product. It’s not a marketing tactic. Black soap is a mixture of several ingredients and they are all in this product.

I rushed to buy the softening conditioner, oil, and twist elongating cream as soon as they dropped. I tried to use them for my wash n go’s and hated them. The combination left me confused, and my hair was frizzy and didn’t last 2 days. I realized after a while that each product had its place for me. The softening conditioner I use as a leave in or deep conditioner when I’m out of my other favs. I use the oil as a sealant, and I honestly am still struggling to find a use for the cream. I’d still recommend them, but you have to find out how they work for YOU, instead of just using them as instructed. The products have quality ingredients and come in sizes that are worth the spend. Whitney has unicorn hair and can make anything look good, so I take her styling advice with a grain of salt.

The oil only works as a prepoo for me. It's not thick enough for a sealant. I love the cream, it gives me moisture and styling at the same time. The conditioner I used it once but it was just ok, not enough slip for me.

@sheba653161 3 жыл бұрын
I don't like them as stylers because my hair doesn't last at all and maybe that's because of the amount of moisture I get from them. If I leave my hair up for a week, it still feels moisturized and feels good so I agree with you! You have to figure out what works for you and yes, her hair is amazing and looks good no matter what.

I definitely agree with you. I have the oil and elongating cream and the oil i use as a prepoo, it helped my hair so much. The cream I use as a moisturizer/styler. I've done twist outs but I do have to retwist my hair regularly because the hold isn't super super strong however I love how moisturizing it is compared to using a gel so I don't mind the extra work.

African black soap isn’t an ingredient, it’s made up of different ingredients depending on the manufacturer’s recipe. This shampoo contains ingredients used to create African black soap. Whitney has also confirmed that they source their ingredients direct from Ghana.
@naturallyphilo

Hey Hun, the base of real African Black soap from Ghana is made from cocoa ash, palm or shea tree ash, and dried up plantain leaves. I expected to see a variation of that in the ingredients to be convinced it’s real African Black soap. Because, I didn’t, that’s why I made that statement. Of course I know “African Black Soap” is not an ingredient lol but if you’re going to call a product that, include the main components of ABS. Saying that a product is ABS because it contains “Lavender, pro vitamin b5, tea tree oil , rosemary oil, Argan oil, black cumin seed oil, turmeric, and charcoal powder” is misleading. Nonetheless, Performance and I enjoyed our experience with the product. 💕

NaturallyPhilo - Fair enough. I’m Ugandan so I’m going by what my Nigerian and Ghanaian friends and family use or make. My standards / expectations are definitely going to be different to yours, especially as I rarely use the soap because it’s often too harsh for my skin. It makes a good DIY clarifying shampoo though.

NaturallyPhilo ..Omg..🤦🏾‍♀️ IT’S ABS..one thing you fail to realize is: requirements to get approved to sell at Ulta you have to provide numerous documentations including ALL ingredients in EACH product b4 getting approval. NO seller will approve ANY product without checking their ingredients PERIOD, and product availability that’s imported 🤦🏾‍♀️. Also; if you know how it’s made plantain and cocoa pod can’t be combined together do to it’s natural (lye) which cause burning some countries 🇳🇬 , 🇬🇭, 🇹🇬 stop using plantain ..you should of known..The ash is made and sold in pounds, whereas 🇳🇪 is crumble form then sprinkle of 💦 to mold to get exact lbs 🙄. Conclusion: MELANIN HAS BEEN APPROVED..and in STORES stop ASSuming and be happy you don’t know er’thng bcuz you’re from 🇬🇭 take a (L) and jus be happy without the hating on Whitney. Also; check out FoletTv she’ll educate you on ABS 😏

I've been using the entire line on my mixed daughter's hair for a month and it worked a miracle for her hair ( haven't use the shampoo yet, will use on her next wash day ). Her hair is no longer falling out when I touch it. I was using other products for over a year and her hair was falling out and nothing worked. The Melanin hair care saved her hair. Plus her products have no coconut, which my daugher is allergic too.

The people have entered the chat to go off on me but I said what I said! 🥵 I am from Ghana 🥳 and the base of real African Black soap that I’m use to from there is made from cocoa ash, palm or shea tree ash, and dried up plantain leaves. I expected to see a variation of that in the ingredients to be convinced it’s real African Black soap. Because, I didn’t, that’s why I made that statement. Of course I know “African Black Soap” is not an ingredient lol but if you’re going to call a product that, include the main components of ABS. Saying that a product is ABS because it contains “Lavender, pro vitamin b5, tea tree oil , rosemary oil, Argan oil, black cumin seed oil, turmeric, and charcoal powder” is misleading to me. Nonetheless, Performance and I enjoyed our experience with the product. 💕

Highly agree with what you said regarding calling the shampoo African Black Soap. The ingredients on it has nothing to do with African Black Soap especially the ones we normally know of. None of the ingredients struck as this is African Black Soap. It struck more as a shampoo that was brown and had good ingredients in it just not ABS ingredients. So I think you stated facts and that’s one Periodt🥵💕💕

Whitney states in her video that the shampoo does in fact contain African Black soap. However, that is not just a naturally occurring element. ABS is a “product” itself... ergo each individual ingredient involved must be listed on this product’s ingredient list.

I have very dry hair so I put olive oil in my water spray bottle. I tend to twist wet and I mix the melanin hair care oil with the leave-in and twist cream. My results were better with mixing the oil into the other products. If you want even more hold, a mousse styler is a great addition. Haven’t gotten the shampoo yet so looking forward to that. I also use the leave-in and oil with my chunky twists at night to refresh.

The leave in is drying it has too much protein ( drying types of protein) so what naptrual needs to reconsider is that she making ppl think you can use it several ways but if a person did use thar condition all the ways she said theyd experience a protein overload ... i personally think she was rushed to make the condish cuz it dried my hair out because i used it as co wash n deep conditioner... not to mention minty oils can be drying too ( hence the smell) ...she needs to revamp ... it works better on high porosity looser textures but it needs to be more moisturizing for 4b n 4c

You needed shampoo. Using it as a cowash is ridiculous if you have low porosity hair. And “protein overload” is not gonna happen with the small about of protein in her product. It’s not a protein treatment, it just contains protein to help keep your hair strong and retain length.

Btw I have low porosity 4c hair it works like magic for me. Maybe just ease up on it or try different ways. What I do is either use it as leave in on wash day and to refresh days later, or deep conditon under a hot cap but don't rinse it out before I twist. Make sure to seal with an oil.

Well im glad it worked for yall ... i know about all that stuff n i love whitney but she maketed the product as saying it can be a co wash , deep cond, n a leave in ... my point is i used it all the ways she said n it left my hair dry which was disappointing when came to leave in ... i tried the stuff it didnt work for me and my hair is bra length n healthy ... n ive been natural for quite a long time ... it didnt work for me and i know she could of done better with this one because the styling cream works so well for most ppl ... yall i clarify my hair but in the case of using this conditioner im glad i didnt it would have been way more dry like pop off dry lollol... so my thing is i wish she would of made just a more singular use condish catering to one thing n not all ... or use a more gentle protein like silk or something ... point is the conditioning agents in product or the ratio of them is not moisturizing enough for some low pros ( like me)... to counter the drying effects of a protein it has to be more moisturizing but because she wanted it to still be a leave in she still made it on the lighter side to me ( this is why i wish she didnt multi task with it , i often wondered how would this formula had came out if she just made it geared toward a rinse out condish for example) ... i think shes going to redo this one ... or hopeful shell just make a good rinse out ... but its not a blast towards her ... i wanted the thing to work lol lol smh ... peace n love yall Oh not to mention i used it as a deep condish under a steamer for 20 mins .... did loc method all that stuff ( ive been natural for 10 yrs yall ) it was DRY DRY DRY DRY DRY.... the type of dry that will set back progress in your hair , the type of dry where you like 👀 " i feel like my hair gonna be dry dry when its dry " dry lol ...love her but its my honest opinion n i agree with philo ... Oh n i deep condish my hair at least 2x a month ... so is it my hair fault or the product ??? 🧐...Its the product cuz my hair was just fine prior 🤷🏾‍♀️ there is another youtuber who had the same experience n she love naptural too ... we want her to win but we not gonna lie n i know naptural doesnt expect us too. But look i hope for the best with naptural ... shes a veteran so i know shell come thru with another product in due time ... yall keep using it if it works for yall but as me i have to listen my hair n it said " lawd help " 😩🤣🤣🤣 i had to wash it back out next day... my hair get scared when i walk past the bottle 👀👀😂... lol ha ha just jokes but yeah real talk 👀 im scared of it tho ....like i said peace n love

I love these products. They work for me SOO well and transformed my hair. I haven’t tried the shampoo yet, but I love the others. I use a Shea butter mixture to seal in the softening leave-in, then I put a bit of the twisting cream on top. WOW. When I say my twists are soft, shiny, and moisturized all week!! I have high porosity so I’m used to moisture leaving my hair pretty quick. Not with that combination!! It makes a bomb twist out too. I don’t use the twist cream on its own. It needs a butter/paste to go with it.

I have the Leave-in and the Twist Elongating Cream. 1. Y'all right...the Leave-in is just that: A LEAVE-IN! A damn good one, might I add. Especially if used with the TEC. 2. The Twist Elongating Cream is a styler, no doubt....but as far as hold goes...? Yeah, nah. I I knew this off break, so I used the TEC along with Mielle Organics Ginger & Honey Styling Gel. It helped keep the definition of my twist....but it didn't leave my twist crunchy nor left my hair tacky. I am happy that these black owned products work so well together. I intend to purchase the shampoo and oil. I normally use probiotic soap and I mix grapeseed oil and glycerin to use as a pre-poo, but I will give these a shot. BTW: I have 3c/4a low porosity hair.💖
