去了外國讀書,腦中翻釋的次數減少了許多,不不知是不是常常聽老師和同學講英文,🥲,我覺得外國英文和香港英文最大分別是技巧,DSE英文科常常用到不少考試技巧例如 True false not given , similarity , anatomy etc.當然英文生字都很重然, 相反外國着重詩詞的了解,例如 kings of king is perform the king is the hubristic person ,The quote from Ozymandias, How to poem present the powerful of nature等,我個人傾向喜歡第二個方法,雖然看似好難但有助幫你提英文能力, technique such as repetition, Alliteration, dramatic irony etc.反觀香港的dse英文則著重於技巧和生字,較少於逆向思維 思考.寫作方面太狹窄,考生較難發揮,這只是我的個人意見如有錯歡迎修改 thx , very inspired video thx for your effort melody 😊,Hang in there , blessed from uk

True. When I prepared my ielts writing exam a couple months ago, I felt exactly that. Hk edu system does not emphasise the significance of logical thinking and critical thinking. Teachers usually do not teach us how to counterargue and avoid logical fallacies. That’s why a lot of hk students have a tendency to generalise a thing. Particularly 以偏概全 is a common logical fallacy to be found in many hk students. (Even me lmao) months ago, when I first learnt this western way of thinking, I couldn’t. It took me months to acclimatise. Surprisingly, after months of practice, I felt like I was led to somewhere beyond my knowing. (hyperbole) thinking and writing have become my fav hobby Ho crazy Also, hk English teachers usually do not teach us things like how to plan before we write, the lexical difference between “deteriorate” and “worsen”, all the way to how to present our argument and ideas precisely and concisely in an essay. This happened to me when I was in my sec skl, which is a CMi school. My school gave me lists of Eng Vocab and connectives, and I, as a dumb, had no ideas where to start and just randomly used them in my writing. You can probably imagine what happened to me when I prepared my ielts exam. Sigh My heartfelt word: choose study methods that work best for you and most importantly THINK more!

I have been studying English for over 30 years. I also was born in Hong Kong and went to primary school for five years. My professional skills and academic achievement were acquired through my past 30 years of relentless learning and refining. This is how I see learning English. Hong Kong education is very ineffective best far as English is concerned in my opinion. Unless one has the financial privilege to be enrolled in an all English , otherwise public school English curriculum is very superficial and borderline confusing, as well as impractical. That is why many Hong Kong students have problem writing a simple essay without the strange tone. We're talkin about simple conversational English, not literature or the Shakespeare variety. I'd compare learning English to painting a portrait. If 10 student writing an essay on Chinese New Year, we are likely to have ten different versions. That being said, a bad painter still has a finished painting which may not look as good as others, nonetheless viewers still know it is a portrait of some kind. But because natural English is bound by grammar and how it is used in a given geographical location, the only way to improve or even master English is to increase exposure and practice everyday. Pay attention to how native narrator use certain words in a subject. If you do that enough you will develop a sense of how to use a certain new board in a certain context. In order to develop the ability to apply a diverse vocabulary, one must increase his exposure in listening and reading. This is speaking from personal experience.
I partially disagree. It depends on how the sentence is structured and how the person wants to express the idea. If I say I have some ice cream in the fridge, the same concept still conveyed. Yes it is correct to say" there is some ice cream in the fridge" . The English word HAVE has a lot of properties but as a verb it means 擁有. However to express this concept with😮out a subject /pronoun such as this sentence, "there are lots of problems that neat to be fixed in that apartment", we must use the "there are "construct. But we can also convey the same idea by using a now or a subject in conjunction with the verb"have". For example, that apartment has a lot of problems that need to be fixed. In order to decide which construct use it all depends on the context. In order to describe or express a concept naturally, a learner must read and constantly listen to natural English such as newscast or documentary to get a feel of how vocabulary is used in a context. Aside from this subject, I also notice a problem among Hong Kong students which is passive sentence construction. However that is a completely different grammatical discussion.
