As an 80 year old guitar amateur who's tried to play for 65 years , I never had the nerve to try this song. Never even knew what the song was about until I visited the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam back jn 1973. So all I can do is say this young lady is great !!

Oh man.. I did not expect to be in tears, audibly sobbing, listening to you play a song i have heard a hundred times before by a countless number of singers both famous and obscure, novice and expert alike. Thank you for this. If you can bring someone who is running around extremely busy caught in the last minute rush of this holiday season to stop and listen to with nothing more than an acoustic guiitar and a voice to a song about a tortured and inspired genius that was Van Gogh and writen so eloquently by Don Mclean, then that's a rare gift you possess. That's a super power. Merry Christmas .

I spend a lot of time just surfin' the 'tube, probably way more than I should. And every once in a while, you stumble upon something here that is absolutely stunning. I've loved that tune since McLean wrote it. I've listened to what, maybe 15 or 20 covers. I have never seen anyone else perform it in such a wonderfully evocative way. The playing, the facial expressions, the little improvs, all add to the beauty of it. Words fail me. I will admit I think I got something in my eye about halfway thru. Thanks for this superb interpretation, Sammy. Bravo!

I discovered that song 25 years ago when that song was already 25 years old. Glad to see the music hasn't died, as Don McLean so adamantly protested in American Pie the same year. I love the feeling you give this song. Makes me wonder if you are thinking of someone more personal to you than Vincent van Gogh when you spill your heart to us with his lyrics. Thanks Sammy!

Beautiful cover. This song has always struck me about how tender and lovely it is regarding one vulnerable, tourmented suffering and brillant painter, as much as people paint to tribute Vincent Van Gogh, I always thought this song was the best kind tribute, and I really hope there's some place, elsewhere, where he has heard it and cries of happiness. Brillant tribute Sammy.

Sammy is new to me and her take on this Don McLean classic brought tears to my eyes. It amazes me that this song, from the 1970’s, was noticed and covered so well by someone so young. I truly hope that, somehow, this cover is brought to Don McLean’s attention. Were I he, I would be flattered and comforted to have one of my songs covered, so well, by someone that was likely born 30 years after its initial release. Bravo, Sammy!!

I'm so glad you covered this! First time I heard the tune, elementary school: we did a section on art, learned a basic outline of Van Gogh's life, watched a video of some of his more famous paintings set to the original of this song. I cried, and was teased for months about it. But I still have a really special love for this song. You cover it so beautifully, Sammy. Lovely work.

I also like that you put the lyrics on screen. I have watch several of your videos now. Very nice. Like and a sub, of course. Edit: Oh, and maybe you'd cover Bee Gees "I started a Joke." It seems to be a good fit for the songs you're covering. Allie Sherlock covered it well (see that) but your delivery of it would be very nice I imagine.
