Ideally you want to be breathing deeply and intentionally about a 30 seconds to minute plus before you plunge. Don’t brace against the cold. Welcome and except it peacefully. Relax into it as you breath deeply the entire time.
@mushrooms4able Жыл бұрын
You need to move around in the water to disperse the "sheath" of warmth and get the full cold effect also. You decrease your exposure by not moving.

You did well. I've done cold plunges since the 70's because of martial arts/military training. Contrary to what some are saying, you do not want to induce hyperventilation before going near water. People die from that, and yes, you can drown in a barrel/tub/bathtub. Your method is perfectly fine. Forget the Wim Hoff/Tummo breathing techniques before getting into water. Even Hoff has changed his tune about this and is not saying he does not teach hyperventilation before cold plunges. One thing, you want to submerge your shoulders as well if you can. I go all the way under at first, but it's not necessary to get the results you are seeking. Well done!

You were in there for nearly 3 minutes just shy of three minutes. It took about 25 seconds to regulate your breath and then it wasn’t even a full minute from first getting in to total peace. WOW!! @markav2802 i started with cold showers and learned Wim Hoff breathing technique. Nevertheless, the first week was rough like anything new but once you get passed this it gets easier. One other thing I learned helps is the either dunk your head/splash water over your head seems to help me control my breathing much more timely. Good luck.

@rebekahthomas61097 ай бұрын
Yes I have a question, but probs asking too late for an answer..... I really want to do this as part of my morning routine, but I can only imagine it taking a long time to warm up, dry off and get dressed afterwards. What do you do straight after? Do you stay in wet clothes with a towel? Do you immediately strip off and then what? Towel dry? Wrap up in a dressing gown? Shower? Surely you can't get dressed into normal clothes while still so wet and cold? I'm really eager to have this figured out before i buy a plunge tub. Thank you for any responses! x

Thanks for the great lesson Mel....just one correction - Parasympathetic Nervous system causes bladder contractions and urination ( not the sympathetic nervous system).
@christophersmith31412 жыл бұрын
Yes, and no. The sympathetic drive increases renal perfusion, which increases urine production. It is the urine production that ultimately leads to needing to pee. The parasympathetic upregulation allows the release of urine.
