Word of advice for those who want to buy a container to do ice 🧊 baths. A 100 gallon stock feed tank is cheaper than a barrel, chest, etc. It cost me $90 at my local farm and fleet, hardware store etc. It also had a drain plug which is super convenient. Brand I have is Rubbermaid 100 gallon. I am 5’10 200lbs and I fit in just fine. Also another tip. Use frozen bottle water. It’s reusable and saves you money buying ice bags at $2 - $3 a bag.

I thought I was in control, I could go back to warm or hot if I wanted but I didnt. Then I started freezing blocks of ice in the family freezer and taking baths with the ice in it. This then took over a complete freezer in the house and I was bathing every day in ice blocks. Last month I bought my first chest freezer but this was a bit small for my shoulders so I ended up buying a brand new chest freezer just for me to bathe in. Its now got a thermostat regulator, ozone generator and filter. And Im down to 1degree C for my sessions. Im Martin and Im an Ice Addict.

I have a question, what exactly do you mean by a cold shower? I have been showering with cold water only since this winter. In all winter seasons before, I used to shower with warm water. And summers in my country are definitely hot enough so always cold showers. Should I make the water colder than environmental temperatures? For example, instead of the 18-20 Celsius here, should I use even colder water? I can easily stay in cold shower for as long as 5-10 minutes if I wanted to but I feel like I am just using relatively warmer water than what other people are using.

I extend my greatest respect to Mr Hof, however, I am 66.5 years old , was introduced to cold therapy over 50 years ago, went several years without practice and then was given a book by Dr. Paavo Airola on "Juice Fasting", practicing cold shower therapy. Sorry I don't know the medical terms, but my experiences were profound. I was foolish with drugs and alcohol (clean and sober today). When practicing cold therapy, my psyche is profound, a strong sense of intuitiveness a new found energy. I can't tell you how long it's been since I've been sick or needed any kind of injection. This is one of the best methods of strengthening your immune system. For beginners please please don't get discouraged, if I may suggest try doing a little meditation before entering the cold. And I don't just mean a cold shower or cold bath, in the winter when it gets really cold just put on your wetsuit and stand outside, I like doing it barefoot because then you do some grounding. I'm sorry this took so long but this is a subject I'm really passionate about and I wish you the absolute best on your journey and GOD BLESS.

But after the first exercise I felt neutral and really calm for the first time, it was amazing so I will keep doing this till I feel better. When I do the exercise I feel okay for about an hour, then I drop back down and then I do it again. Just as long as I can let go of my grief. In addition, already have a Keto lifestyle to control blood sugar. I already have so many benefits from this and with the occasional long fasting period during which autophagy occurs I also get deep into the body, including the brain cells. I hope with the cold and the breathing in gain control of myself again and finally feel happy again.

When you talk about two minutes being the time needed to adapt to the cold... that totally matches my own experience! It was when I reached two minutes with the cold showers that I finally started to feel different about the experience. I actually felt almost as if the cold was disappearing, and it was - as you said - only water! I'm half way through the fundamentals course so I have some way to go yet, but already I'm delighted to find that this stuff is working. Thank you Wim, you're the greatest :)

Exactly the same here, just started with ice baths and it's all uncomfortable and painful at the start, but just at 2 minutes I feel a meditative state kicking in and I can just relax, almost feel like I could stay there forever, though I usually stay for about 5 minutes.

I started first with the ice baths and cold showers, (for me the ice baths are the best, but I do cold showers If I don't have time for the baths) they are amazing to connect with the stillness and clarity of life, and they work for a longer period of the time, it seems the clutter and density of thought washes away with the cold. Just started so can't wait to see the other benefits aswell. And then I started to do the breathing techniques which are awesome if you feel a bit tired of groggy, it's like a reset button. Both amazing tools to come back to your true self. Recommend it at the most, remember challenge yourself but don't push yourself beyond which can be harmful.

I trained myself to immerce into freezing cold water into winter for about 1 minute. It does not seem too cold for body, but arms and legs really freezes. For example legs feels stiff and it is hard to move, especially if I am on sea shore and want to go deeper about 20-30meters until water surface touches my waistline. How does long it takes to train legs and hands to be able to move easily in cold water? Thanks to Wim, I have got rid of chronic bronchitis and my overall health improved a lot.

I have been drawn to the cold from late adolescence. I can stand cold weather, even down to - 20, the air is crisp, the act of inhalations is pure joy, the air feel nutritious. However, I can't stand the cold on my body. But when wim says "let the cold be your teacher, I know what he means". Mr wim, i will do your breather exercises (I might have been doing them for a month) and I will reconnect with myself.

I clean myself with the warm water then cool myself with the cold shower which gives me a sense of soothing and leaves me feeling amazing and sharp for the day. That's pretty interesting. I've been doing cold showers for some years now, but it's always hot...nice and warm, then cold to finish it off. I'm thinking I can just do my shower in cold only and just choose to do that and get the benefits of simply letting it be water. I already get benefits, and maybe it's time to try something a little bit different.

I started cold soaks in September in the early morning using my outdoor inflatable pool when I would have normally taken it down for the season. Figured I'd try it for a week at least with little expectation that I'd like it all that much, but being open to it. I have a reasonably private yard, especially at that hour, but I do it naked to nudge me to get in quickly where I can't be seen below the rim. I found that I love it waaay more than I ever expected -- I feel so happy and energized afterward, and being out in nature at dawn was part of the enjoyment, for sure! (I'm not even a morning person.) Now that it is getting much colder in New England, I bought one of those tubs from Amazon and set it up indoors in an unheated room. I really miss the nature aspect and it's harder to get in, so now I will be paying more attention to the Wim method and make it more of a breathing meditation. I hadn't really needed to do that until now. Even at 50 F, it was so easy outdoors compared to inside. (it's mostly been mid-to upper 50s) I tried the shower and dislike it by comparison! Plus, it seems like a waste of water since I still take a shower for cleanliness at night. Try it! It's a healthy addiction to have!

44 years old, 13 months sobriety, (alcohol) 8 months ago I took a cold shower out of necessity (no hot water available) but it was very hot and we were on vacation, and I felt noticeably energized, then a few swims in the spring time ocean, on the cooler side but not extreme, felt amazing, then hiking in the Smokey mountains 5 months ago, bathing in a shockingly cold mountain stream (because showers were not an option) feeling amazing! The cold water took all the pain out of my muscles, and really helped my aches from old injuries!!! From that trip to now I have ended every single shower with 3 minutes or more of the coldest water the shower will deliver! I even started going to the gym 6 weeks ago, which I believed was no longer an option, and with the help of cold water showers I have felt little or no muscle soreness, (I wish I had this trick figured out when I played sports in high school). And now I find out this guy has been preaching cold water his whole life! Well, I’m preaching it too! To anybody that will listen!

We had 2 old plants in the house and they were looking like they were dead or going that way. We stuck them outside one day with the intention to empty the soil out them and bin the plants. Loandbehold a few days out in the rain and cold the plants came back to life, so it works for plants too! We'd gave them regular watering so it wasn't the rain that rejuventated them must have been the cold.
