Hello everyone! In todays video I wanted to melt down all of the brass plugs and connectors that I've been hoarding for over a year. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into collecting all of those connectors. Please sit back, relax and enjoy this satisfying metal melting video. Once I melted down the brass, I poured it into one of my graphite ingot molds and made a beautiful bar. Do you think it came out pretty good? Drop a comment down below and let me know please. This is a caption heavy video as there is a lot of information I wanted to convey.
I truly love melting metal, even though it can be costly with the price of equipment and the cost of propane. If you scrap metal on the side like me, you're probably better off cashing it in as you get it, unless you like stacking metal for a rainy day. My personal goal is to have over 1000 pounds of copper. I'm about 20% of the way there.
If you have any questions about scrapping or metal melting, drop a comment or shoot an email to scrap2cast@gmail.com
Thanks a bunch for watching my video. I hope you learned something and I hope you subscribed :)

Thanks brother!!! You're totally right, brass is such a dirty metal to cast with. I blame it on the zinc content. Nasty stuff, but like you've always told me, zinc is such a good casting metal for fine details. Oh dont you worry about a thing buddy, I got plenty of scrap to add to the pallet (It's on another pallet) hahaha. Love the bar and you're right that other bar is nice brass so there shouldn't be much slag off of it. I have been toying with making a miniature brass cannon but part of me wants to do it in aluminum bronze. Decisions, decisions. Thanks for watching and thanks for getting me a few more subscribers! 😃👍👊

I did not know that about brass. And here I was looking for brass for you to melt and cast. I guess I will stick to copper for now.
@Scrap2Cast

Yeah the zinc in brass has a lower melting point so it generally burns off and causes that toxic zinc oxide. I melt it all so no worries 😁
@lewisgiles8855

I've used a laser temperature gun to help me keep it around 17,18F. Takes a lil longer to melt and eliminates the fun of zinc ignition!

@@lewisgiles8855 I keep forgetting to take my infrared thermometer out of my toolbox inside the shop. I think it goes up to 2100F. Normally I run the regulator below where I melt aluminum to start off. Once I start seeing that white smoke and flame, I shut the furnace off, give the brass a quick stir and then turn it back on to the lowest setting (just before the furnace stalls). If I see the smoke again, I repeat the process until its time to remove the slag. I always wear a respirator especially when I’m melting brass and if I’m sand casting. That burnt sand smell is terrible and really harsh to breathe in. 🙂

@@Scrap2Cast heck yeah bro, I been stacking for like two years now! I rarely use my thermo meter any more, but I will say some of the prettiest bars came out of using it, as slow as it goes. I love the sparkle of over heated brass tho, it makes it feel like magic! Looking great, man

Bar came out great -- maybe you could drop something in atop the poured mould to shape the top of the bar?
@Scrap2Cast
@Scrap2Cast Жыл бұрын
I have tried that before and was unsuccessful. The problem is the liquid metals of copper and brass solidify very quickly. The only way to do it is to take the bar out when it’s red hot, put a piece of flat heavy steel in top and start hammering. Too much work in very little time to accomplish it. If I do it while it’s still in the mold, I risk destroying the graphite mold
@donl4914
@donl4914 Жыл бұрын
You would need a closed mold to get that. Open molds are good for ingots and stacking.

It sure is brother, most have been converted to ticket printouts. From my investigation, the battery on the main board expired in 2003. It originally was in an AZ casino according to the state seal tape on the chipsets. Perfectly legal to own in my state of residence. I did my homework 😁

You can disagree, that’s your right. But to melt brass into bar form to simply resell is not worth it in my eyes. Unless you are casting statues or art with it, then maybe so. What’s the business?
