@@ignizxnr3021 not true. gg strive has been active, steam chart averaging 2-3k players online competing with sfv on pc alone. Compared to Melty averaging around 300-500. Also the complaints about the patch is just top tier staying on top, but most have been positive because mostly everyone got buffed. Jack O, Goldlewis, and Testament were one of the low tiers last season tiers now they are high tier.

In terms of massive, well-recieved updates, SFV AE has to be up there. It basically addressed most of the games major complaints and added tons of new single player stuff, new vtriggers for every charcter, frame data viewer, a new UI, nerfed VT comebacks, overall pretty good balance changes for the whole cast. And it was completely free. It started off the whole SFV redemption arc.

It's a curse of super fast anime fightings, over complicated strategies are unreliable because shit happens so fast, so most people just falling back to jabs into generic bnb and super at the end Would be nice if there was more variety of win conditions for different chars, like strive, but it's unlikely

I liked the game quite a lot and I feel this update is fixing things most people disliked without removing any of things I like. I’m quite excited about it. Also they posted those match videos and Neco Arc seems super annoying to fight against. She has that Arakune style of shmoving around and throwing crap around until no one knows wtf is going on but turned up to 11. She seems to do little damage so it’s ok. I’m actually looking forward to see her in action.

I think the only patch that is comparable is when SFV became SFV:AE. For SFV and for MB, theses respective patch directly adress a lot of the 'issues' that plagued the game in term of gameplay or other part. SFV, it finally introduced V-trigger scaling to make comeback offense less violent + add more variety of option/strength for characters (Zangief being good only in this season). It reworked all the UI in the game + introduced more rewards for doing the solo mode like survival (that you find it fun or not isn't the question, there was content) + the very very big arcade mode, etc. SFV S3 made the game in a way better spot/quite good and every season after that fixed issues on the meta/design of the game that could use work on without making the game "not SFV". For Melty, it is more like a balance patch that adress every issues or growing pain in the game (shield mechanic needed a lot of tuning, autocombo being intrusive and not having any options in their insertion, balance patch and the lack of 'variety' in the gameplay of characters). BUT IT IS ALSO FUCKING FREE. Stage? colour? Characters? Music? All free. It is insane, S1 being free was already so cool but they just doubled down when nobody would have bat an eye if they didn't. I think theses two patchs felt insane because they both hit right on the nail what people wanted and were kind of hype because it was not the bare minimum. You look at Tekken 7 patch and you look at theses patchs and you feel like you came back from extreme poverty. OH ALSO. I could be wrong but shield having more subtlety/drawback can help a lot in making match-up less stale. When an universal mechanic lack nuance and just impose itself without interacting with the characters own design, it make it so you don't have to think about the character that much. But when it has way more intricacies and nuances, suddenly the uniqueness of a character shine more. A stupid example. If a character has a long range B or 2B but also a projectile, if shield fuck all the options easily, you don't care about it and just press crouch shield in reaction. But let's say crouch shield don't stop projectile/low but normal shield don't stop low, suddenly you have to properly think about your defense because you will want to stand shield because they have a good projectile but then you worry that they long range 2B can scoop you if you aren't thinking well enough. The same goes for shielding on jumping attack being less sufficient, suddenly character that are floaty or with average jump attack feel easier to defend because anti-air outside of shield is easy while characters with strong air approach become way scarier as you universal option isn't that good and if you don't have a dp/the execution to dp properly, you will get fuck. Suddenly the match-up/character is more important.

Awesome, the autocombo removal feature was my biggest wish for this game. I know autocombo is stronger, but I hate wanting to do something and just ending up doing something else entirely. The shield changes seem really great too, although I hope it ends up feeling more like a reversal based on prediction rather than something you can just rely on. I'm not sure how the quicker movement will feel, I'll have to try it out before I can judge it, so far I feel the game is pretty quick as is, but it might be me not trying it yet.

Unironically going to play the game now. Was so fucking excited during the lead-up to TL but when it released, it just wasn't the game we wanted it to be. The entire game being focused on the shield RPS because nothing else mattered really bummed me out, it simply wasn't interesting enough to keep me around despite the great art, music, and netcode. With the level of support we're getting with free characters and massive updates like this is what really brings people (back) to your game and it's clearly working with TL. Already reinstalled.
