The best way to think of this interaction is to imagine Zeke and Eren are in a movie theater, but only Eren snuck his camera in and is live streaming the whole thing back to past Grisha. So while Zeke can only watch the “movie” of those memories, Eren can influence and change them. It gets kinda convoluted but that’s the best analogy I’ve found.
@nicomeneses886 Жыл бұрын
It's also like Grisha stumbled upon a movie playing in the theater or tv, but found out he could talk to a character in it. He could ask them questions and they would respond to him through the movie. It's weird for him because the movie couldn't really change dialogue on the spot because it is a finished product and who knows how many times the movie has been shown there without him seeing it, but somehow it can respond to him. It can respond to him because the director of the movie knows what and when he will ask while making the movie...because the director is seeing Grisha asking those questions while he was making the movie. I guess this is what you meant by it getting "kinda convoluted", but the above scenario is how this whole interaction between Grisha and Eren worked.

One distinction to make is that Grisha wasn’t actually seeing Eren. Remember he can only see Eren’s future memories, and specifically ones that Eren wants him to see. So Grisha knows they’re there because he’s seeing himself through Eren’s eyes. That’s why he looked in Eren’s direction in the underground chapel. He saw himself from the perspective of that spot so he knew where Eren was. Also, If you go back to the scenes where Grisha sees Zeke, it’s only when they are both in Eren’s direct line of sight. And when he “hugged” Zeke he was really only hugging the air, but he knew where Zeke was because Eren was looking at them. It’s also cool to think that future Eren intentionally allowed Grisha to see Zeke, since he can only see the memories Eren wants him to see. He either did it out of kindness for them, or because it’s part of whatever master plan he has going on.
@stripehead1 Жыл бұрын
I always thought the "hugging air" thing was stupid, We see them physically interacting. But this is an interesting way of understanding how Grisha can see them.

You know the most tragic part of Eren seeing the future? It means there is no such thing as freedom. He doesn’t just see future possibilities, he sees THE future, as in singular. Nothing can be changed, and no free will exists. In other words, despite Eren having all this power, all it let him do is learn he can never be truly free.
@Lumina178 Жыл бұрын
thats what makes erens story so sad, because everyone else who doesnt know about the future can at least believe in the idea of free will, but with eren he cannot, which is even worse when you see him non stop fight for freedom and then realise that he himself is not truly free

Eren whispered in Isayama's ear and told him to write this story On a serious note, it's really scary how Grisha, someone who was so anti-Marley and pro-Eldia, saw one glimpse of Eren's plan and was like, "Zeke. You have to stop him." Despite Grisha's hate for Marley and how far he was willing to go, even HE thought his plan was too far. He was genuinely horrified. Whatever Eren's plan is, Grisha does not want it to happen. Speaking of, Zeke and Grisha finally getting to work out their issues and hug each other in a moment of pure love is really heartwarming. Grisha understood his mistakes when raising Zeke before. Instead of only treating him as a tool, he treats him as his son. Zeke is finally able to take his first step towards closure after years of trauma. Even if they had their differences, Grisha and Zeke can at least agree with one thing: Stopping Eren. I think Eren does care for his older brother. The same way that Zeke cares about Eren and wanted to show him the light of his plan, Eren cares about Zeke but won't stop moving forward to reach his.

16:53 wow, there are lots of things to talk about (comments I am an anime watcher don't murder or spoil me here please I've gone unspoiled for 10 years at this point) first; eren showing dominance by A-posing menacingly so much symbolism this episode, characters bonded by blood but also the paths itself sharing the same facial expression (which they have done before such as every jaw titan having moments of selflessness where their truest self shows rescuing people despite 3 of the 4 users we have seen being selfish and or mean most of the time or Armin and Berthold having the same corporal language at moments even before Armin got the titan powers), the attack and the founder titans being controlled by a future and a past user respectively as well as all the royal blooded people on that scene dressing in white while the attack titans are wearing black I like those moments where you see shots of baby eren and Griesha just looking and clearly seeing themselves from eren's pov for like a split second because they are sort of unconsciously tapping into the paths even tho baby eren isn't a titan yet (but also what is yet when we know the paths transcend time and space right?) as you would know the fandom isn't all there sanity wise so people SCOWERED the past episodes of the anime when this came out in the manga looking for bg characters with medium length hair, blonde with a white coat and dark brunette with a black coat (symbolism alert) in proximity of each other and although they found some in at least episodes 1 and... 10 or 11 I think this is like that meme from always sunny we or I (an anime watcher) don't know if griesha's statement about the attack titan being able to see a glimpse of the future is a thing of the attack titan itself or a thing that eren gained from being in the paths with Zeke that he retroactively puts into the past attack titans because griesha said "why won't YOU show me everything" and even though mechanically it would be the same this implies the existence of AN eren from some point in time sort of pulling the strings even of his past self making the attack titan the least free titan and the show at this point has established the conflict between determinism and free will as far as season 2 with Ymir's backstory and what he had to say about it, the show also sort of brought it more to the front in Reiner's reunion with eren 10:07 in the little I've read from the manga (I'm in S1 territory) you can actually see a little of griesha's face during this close up of the key and you can sort of see his face turned like he's looking away which is such cool detail

Don't read Aege, this might be considered a spoiler for anime only but it's more like a theory of mine than a spoiler. A lot of shows with time involved stuff seeing the future changes it because of what you do in response to it. Not so with AOT because Eren is actually getting future visions that take his reactions to them into account. Meaning that in order to change them he'd half to be able to see ALL of the future laid out in front of him. He can't decide to do X instead of Y because the future he sees already takes that decision into account. Meaning he can see the future and do precisely nothing to change it. Imagine seeing all the suffering before you and over the years seeing more and more examples of you inability to do anything to alter it. Absolutely crushing

@@Limpass610 It seems that the Attack Titan specifically really doesn't have a choice, just based on their rules for "time travel". the future inheritors can selectively feed past inheritors memories to force them into the path that the future inheritors want, like here with grisha. grisha *didn't want* to kill the reiss family, but Eren selectively fed him memories to force a mental breakdown- and what memories has Eren been fed?

The way I think about the Historia hand-kiss scene at the end of S3: Eren did see Grisha's memories from that night at the chapel. But he saw everything - not just what we were shown back then. He saw Grisha hesitate. And then he saw Grisha go through with it anyways because Eren himself forced him to. In other words, Eren saw himself force Grisha to retake the Founder when he saw those memories... And you're exactly right that Eren wasn't the same since that scene. Which is how they got around that whole thing it's actually pretty cool. Which means that up until this point, Eren can't see how it all ends because grisha doesn't know how it ends either. The Attack Titan can’t see any memories of any future Titan. Whoever has the Attack Titan can choose to share their memories with past inheritors. So Grisha can’t just look into the future and see whatever he wants, BUT Eren can share whatever memories he wants with Grisha. Normally, you can’t just interact with the past Attack Titan, but what’s important is that because Eren and Zeke are currently able to look into Grisha’s full memories because of the Coordinate/Founder, Eren can choose to share his memories of them watching Grisha at that point at time. So Eren talks to Grisha, then shares the memory with younger Grisha, meaning he is effectively able to actively communicate with Grisha in the past and convince him to kill the Reiss family. I also think for the time travel aspect it’s a fixed timeline. So you can’t change the past. It’s a bit like if you’ve seen Harry Potter 3, when they go back in time. Nothing actually changes, you see all the things like the swing of the axe killing Buckbeak, but it’s just the guy hitting the plank of wood. Basically them going back in time has already happened and so nothing they do will change the future. Next episode is gonna be some heavy LORE but hopefully won’t be as much of a mind fuck as this one haha!

Surprise AOT was really a villain origin story the whole time! Lol jk not really, but... Eren did look kind of scary right there 😳 But on a serious note, Grisha's character is more developed than certain main characters of other shows. Dude had very little screen time, but each time he's on screen, it's a treat. He's been introduced and re-introduced to us every time, and that is S-tier character writing right there! Also, on a not serious, but low-key serious note... Grisha got some Bad Ass Kids!!! How both your kids end up on some genocide war crime type ish!?!?
