I've lived on the West Coast 30 miles from Fort William for three years, and driven to Glenfinnan and Mallaig a few times. I made my first-class trip on the Jacobite on June 1st this year. Luckily, it was a sunny day, although not very warm! I thoroughly recommend first class, but because of the price (£200 for the both of us) I decided it was a one-off. I made good memories and took some great photos.
@MemorySeekers3 ай бұрын
It is a shame it costs so much but doing it once is certainly worth it. We couldn’t get first class on our visit it was sold out or they were not running it. It was over covid and cannot remember. Still great memories of an epic railway journey.

Another great video guys, but one small point re Neptune's Staircase... It's not the longest in UK, thattitle belongs to Caen Hill Locks near Devizes in Wiltshire, where over a length of 2 miles there are 29 locks. And they're still hand operated! That would make a great place for you to film a future episode.

Thank for this great video, once again amazing quality!! I have a question to ask please, if you are seating on the right side on the train on your way to Malliag, you WILL miss the better view of the viaduct, and if they switch seats for you automatically you will be riding on your left side of the train next and miss AGAIN the viaduct view? Is that right? Im concern now that I booked this tickets with my daughter, being both of us HUGE HP fans and not getting to really appreciate this Iconic view.
@MemorySeekers2 жыл бұрын
Hi yes if you are on the right going out, you will miss it, and if you have the same seats on the way back you will also miss it. Direction of seating is important as well. Be facing direction of travel, we were rear facing so had to turn round to see it. They switched us and I thought that was the norm so you had a different view on way back. Sounds like you have same seats both ways. There is nothing stopping you getting up from seat and going to the doors at the end of the carriages so you can see out. Grab a Spot before someone else does! Really it is hard to see the viaduct well from in the train, your best bet is to take the walk from station and see the train go by and the entire viaduct from the viewing area. If we had, had another day we would have driven to Glennfinnan Station and walked to the viewing platform here. 56°52'33.2"N 5°26'06.2"W goo.gl/maps/GJz3tWHpbJ9vVvjD8 Hope you have a lovely day whatever happens!

The train slows down to a crawl but it is over quite quickly. If it works as did for us then you sit on one side of the train on the way out and the other in the way back so everyone gets a very different view each way. To be honest to get the best view of the viaduct you need to travel by car to the external viewing platform here 56°52'33.2"N 5°26'06.2"W maps.google.com?q=56.8758964,-5.4350619&ftid=0x488eb3c955648cb7:0x2ea7f58037d27efb&hl=en-GB&gl=uk&entry=gps&lucs=a1 Lots of people do that to.
