Nice work! Keep your driveshafts installed at the hubs when removing the original engine and bungee them up out of the way. Less work and you keep your wheel bearings safe. If you roll the car around without the driveshaft installed it can damage the wheel bearings. I learned that one the hard way.
@fanespoitoru97903 жыл бұрын
Cheers.. you mean keep the shafts attached to the wheels,or bolted to the gearbox?

Very interesting. 3½ years ago the oil pump shit itself in the 2.3 litre Red Block in my 1990 Volvo 240DL estate. Since the car only had 400,000 kilometers on it, I took the easy way out. Found a good used 2.3 out of another, totally rotted, 1990 with only 220,000 km on the clock. $600 for the engine delivered to the shop, and $1,200 including tax to do the re and re. Arthur was back on the road in under a week. I would have done it myself except for 3 factors. First, Ontario winters. -20 is no joke. Second, no garage or shop to work in. See number 1. Third, 6 shoulder surgeries say that hefting a cast iron engine, even if only 4 cylinders, is just not a good idea. That engine now has over 400,000 km on it, and does not burn or leak any between services. To me, paying to have it done might be the pricey way, but worth it. No fun for KZbin, however. I do admire how you drive in and get it done.

Nice progress. I am tinkering about doing something alike on my mk2, also small carb'ed engine as of today. Just a small tip on the C-clamps @Memphis, get yourself some U-bolt exhaust clamps, weld on two "horns" on the bent bolt, and reverse the removable part and the position of the bolts. This way you are able to widen the C-clamps by turning two bolts, and you don't worry about the C-clamps jumping off anywhere. That said, it is not too costly to get some new 4-2-1 manifolds these days either.

mk1 is by far the easiest to swap... we averaged 45 minutes to remove the 1.4 and swap in a 2.0 to start and drive

0:40 I broke exactly the same bolt that you on my diesel MK1 Golf. Dude I was so pissed because I broke temp sensor earlier and I needed to put that pipe away from engine in order to remove old sensor. I almost lost my cool there.

@memphis52204 жыл бұрын

Good video, but you got to learn your terminology. That is not at all an excavator, that’s a skid steer. Google excavator and see what comes up, not at all what you used
