Note that no sources are cited or posted on the video description. Also, she talks about money earned, but not how much each is paid per hour because men tend to work more hours and women. Also, men tend to work more dangerous and physically demanding jobs. That is why women will not choose to do construction jobs over office jobs.

To get the "pay gap," you have to divide the total earnings of all working men by the number of workers, then the same tor women. The.numbers are skewed by the small percentage of millionaires. Even then, if they used hours worked or the fields chosen by men and women, this gap disappears. A study I just looked at said men work an ave. of 8.3 hours per day, but women work about 7.8 hours per day.

There is some good information here, but also some more of the same old myths such as the gender pay gap. I give the speaker credit for being one of the few feminists to not demonize men. Usually the blame for all problems is placed purely on the shoulders of men. However, much of the facts presented were done so in a very misleading way. For example, it was presented that we don’t value women’s contributions as much as men, and the fact that there is a gender wage gap. Never was it mentioned that the reason we have a wage gap is almost entirely because of the choices of women, such as choice of major and choosing to stay home with children more. The presenter mentioned that women were doing things to make themselves more assertive at work, but seemed to believe that these things were ridiculous. What she also failed to mention was that when women act like their male successful counterparts, they are just as successful and usually earn more money than the men. How does she propose that we get rid of this supposed unconscious bias? Also, what benefit is there for men to do any of this besides out of the goodness of their hearts? Listen, as an individual at work you don’t owe anyone anything. You aren’t there to further other people’s careers. You are there to further your own career and to benefit yourself and your family.

Usually, when women hear "be assertive," they translate that into being angry, raging and violent. I've seen very few female "leaders" who are calm and rational.

for those who dont know: in the "Tom Sawyer" novel, there is this boy who is made to paint a fence by his mother. he would rather like to go to the lake, so he tricks a friend into thinking he really enjoys painting the fence, and that it was a real honour and privilege to paint it. the friend then is really exited and literally offers to pay him to be allowed to paint the fence, so he lets him pay, gives him the paint and brush and goes to the lake. modern day western women are like this friend.

So I looked into this claim about math scores. It's based on one study, where 6th grade test scores from students in Tel-Aviv Israel were compared to other blind testing from completely different grade levels in the Tel-Aviv school system. This means they didn't compare the same exams with the names removed, they didn't even compare the same aged students! They simply compared completely different data sets from multiple age groups, and when any difference in measure was found they just assumed bias on behalf of the teacher. I found this speakers claim odd considering that math testing leaves less room for subjective interpretation compared to other subjects. It's ironic that she made this point, because far larger, more accurate, multiple studies have been carried out which find the exact opposite; robust studies have found that boys papers are actually marked DOWN in comparison to girls when gender is identified. That's just one of many examples that show the deceptively (cherry-picked) flaw in the claims made by this speaker

Same thing when they compare US high school students with Europeans. I lived in Germany and had kids in the German school system. The school in Germany that they compare to US high schools is actually more of a Jr college (in fact, after graduation, 4 years of university leads to a masters degree) and only about 1/3 (the top third) of all 16-19 year olds in Germany attend. The others go to apprenticeship programs. Also, when my stepson went to school in the USA, it 180 days a year. In Germany, it wss 183.

Stop expecting baseball games to use tee ball rules for half the players, and work the same hours in the same jobs. Problem solved. Actual sexist discrimination is terrible and rightly illegal but far more rare than being presented in so many arguments, where so so many other factors are ignored and context thrown out the window.

I was raised so that men would be respectful of women and woman would be graceful. That world does not exist and it was hard for me to change my ways. It got easier though so when I saw a woman drop bags of her groceries I know just stepped through the mess without saying a word and carry on my way.

Talking and communicating can be 2 different things. Then it is to put the result into action, or was it just talk? If women are those that have the main responsible to bring up children (statistics?), why don't they learn those to behave in an gender equality way - if possible?

I worked with Joanne at the Wall Street Journal and we have been friends for 30 years. I am reading these comments below and they are shocking. Forget the lack of citations, the nature of TedX v. Teds Talks. You are missing the point. Jo is describing a real problem in our workforce and corporate America and real proposed solutions. As the father of two brilliant daughters (amend that, two brilliant people.) They deserve the same opportunity and respect in the workforce as men. That's it. Focus on the forest, not the trees. Go Jo!

Women are our better halves in a lot of ways. At work our other halves are emotionally stressed, anxious, and we don't want to see that. But we cannot help them because often they are in higher roles, or simply don't want to be treated like a woman. Men have their hands tied, but still have to deal with the emotional and social burdens that women ALWAYS bring to the workplace. When will this experiment of coed workplaces end for the sake of both genders, their families and children?
