Man, the response to just talking about these issues is fucking wild. Am not sure how kid me got the right idea about this stuff so early. When I was young I unprompted by outside influence (as far as I can tell) just reacted to heartbreak or shit that made me depressed by just going "well tough shit, put on a smile and keep on going cause the world isn't gonna stop moving just cause you're sad". Am not really sure what led to this train of thought I just feel like I got the impression that being sad wouldn't really do anything and that I should just ignore it and move on rather than tell anyone about what's bothering me. After a certain point I noticed that my feeling towards shit that made me sad or depressed would sometimes turn from sadness to just general numbness or lack of any feeling. Think I react in a more emotionally healthy way nowadays but probably not much better than before

Comments like this really bug me because several men on on my mum's side of the family committed suicide while I was a kid, and my dad made a few attempts when I was a teen. It is traumatizing for everyone involved, and to even suggest its a good thing is just plain evil.

Just because someone is smiling does NOT mean they are okay. My nickname in high school was Smiley because I was always smiling, but I was using that smile to hide the fact that I was not okay. I did not want to worry my friends and family while I tried to deal with it myself. I grew up with an abusive parent that made me feel like I was the problem. I didn't want to seem like a bigger problem to those I cared about. So just because someone is smiling don't just assume they are okay. Take the time to listen to them and watch them please, before they end up going down a very dark path.

So you wore a mask to protect the ones you care about. The fact that your mask was a smiling one is truly impressive. Mine was kinda... expressionless. It was also to hide that I wasn't feeling okay in my teenage years. But one day, when my father got me a present I was really excited about, I was truly happy, but he said : "Why aren't you smiling, nor hyped up? You don't like it?" Even today, I struggle showing off my emotions to people, both the negatives and the positives ; when some of my friends give me presents, they think that I don't like it, because I'm almost not reacting to it, at least from the outside view.

I've carried two coffins of my friends. Knew many more. Been in army, guy have put two 7.62 mm bullets in his brain, all because of women. Some men can't handle solitude, they are broken. They feel lonely. It's unnatural. Men are built for hardship, not for comfort. Worked for me, I've been a troublemaker, now- through solitude, I'm whole. I'm finding myself quite comfortable in those troublesome times. There is no easy way to say it: for men- hard way is the easy way. The right way.
