“I felt good,” he said. “I think to beat the world record I need to be more aggressive early on, but there was just too much room to make up for. Overall it was a big season with a personal best, an Olympic medal and a lot of Diamond League wins. In Brussels (Diamond League final) I would like to go after the world record (in the 800m), but the conditions have to be ideal.” #AROP

#AROP ‘In my opinion there are different reasons for the current level in the 800m. The main one: everyone is working really hard. It is an Olympic year, that helps too to be in our best shape. ‘Also, the track and the spikes are helping us. I am also experimenting with bicarbonate this year. This was my last race of the season. I am really happy about that. It was a long year, but I am motivated to come back stronger next season,’

#MarcoAROP “After some great 800m races, I will be running 1000m at the meeting in Zagreb, and I want to break the world record in the event,” he told organisers. “After that, I am heading to Brussels to break the 800m world record as well. The record is definitely going down.”

Despite what the commentators said, he was actually on target at 400, 600, 800m but had nothing in his legs coming down the home straight. That's where he lost it.

No, he probably wasn't on target at 800. The intermediate time of 1:43.94 has to be incorrect. You can clearly see in the video (watch frame-by-frame, using the "" keys), that the time stops well before he crosses the 200m starting line. Watch for the two guys in orange, They are standing just before the line, but as the time stops Arop is at least 10 meters short of that point. There's an official walking on that line, which possibly messed it up. Arop crosses 800 around 1:45.0, I would say. It also explains the big discrepancy between his fourth and fifth parts of 200. He was roughly 1:19.7 after 600 (0.9 behind the pacemaker), 1:45.0 after 800 and 2:13.13 after 1000. So the fourth 200 took him 25.3, and the fifth 28.1. That makes definitely more sense than 24.2 and 29.2.

He should have gotten out harder. Not sure how he got beat to the curve by so many others. Just didn't have the urgency at the gun which makes sense as you can do your own thing for the first 200 in the 8. The first 10m ironically cost him the most in a 1000m race. Imo
