That's fairly close to my impression of his run and I've been wondering why that is. I think it is a combination of him extending his arms behind himself slightly more than the other runners, plus the fact that he's white and his arms are more noticeable in contrast to the red track color. It really does give an impression of him grabbing air and throwing it behind him as he takes off in reckless abandon.

Tortu was already quite famous in Italy way before the Tokyo Olympics and we expected him to be in the 100m final and maybe have a shot at the medals, because he broke the 10s barrier and the national record at a very young age. No one in Italy knew who Marcell Jacobs was before this final or even after this final until we saw him winning. That probably helped him, because all the pressure was on Tortu. So it might be a surprise for the rest of the world but it's not a surprise for Italians that Tortu could run like that.

@KnowTrentTimoy3 жыл бұрын
Trust me. Filippo's run will be teaching material. It was simply one of the best run down of a lead in the history of sports. His head lean in that final surge at the line against Great Britain was just magnificent. If Tortu never does anything again in sports he will be remembered for this Great Great win for Italy. This will inspire future Italian (and other sprinters) for generations to come.

I can't imagine the amount of energy Tortu must have felt when he got that baton. Anchor leg, in the Olympics, already in medal position and only a step behind first place, with a chance to run down the leader and claim eternal glory. Dang

Jacobs season of his life (still not repeated in 2 years) Tortu race of his life (still not repeated in 2 years) Desalu ran a magnificent bend and Patta lead as a few Italians have ever done. That was THE RACE. And they won by 1/100th just to remind how difficult is this sport. All your youth given in trainings for 1/100th which can decide a gold or a silver… wow what a sport!
