You know, honestly I'm jealous. Here, men have a very detailed resource for the history, function, and fashion of every component of their garments. I'm not saying women don't, it's just many videos for women's fashion are about coordinating or whatever. I don't actually learn about the history and details of what goes into making clothing for women. I'm sure a lot of this information can be applied to women's clothing, but my point is that women don't seem to make it as important. I mean, I had to stumble upon a men's fashion channel (out of pure curiosity) just to see this kind of information all neatly bundled in a video. Women may seem better dressed, as society tells us, but women really don't put this much passion into dressing well.

I think it is because men's clothing tends to stay classic. I'm not too familiar with women's fashion, but it seems like women's style tends to change all the time. You have new trends all the time, while men tend to stay away from the trends. It's hard to find the history and function of trends. Again, i'm probably wrong. There are probably women's classics too.

Yes, he talks about them like their main purpose is to keep the socks up... They are mainly to stop your shirt from coming untucked throughout the day. The fact that it keeps your socks up is simply a bonus

Sock garters aren't a gimmick at all. They're a very sensible solution to the inevitable drooping of any sock that isn't a recently purchased OTC sock. Most socks you'll find in men's departments are mid-length as men seem to prefer these by a large margin. In most cases they will droop at some point during the day or when the elastic loosens after a number of washings. Sock garters are the best solution. Socks will stay up all through the day, and after a couple of days of using them, you'll totally forget that you have them on. The key in wearing them is to attach the garter to the front of the sock and loop the back of the garter over the top of your calf muscle.

Actually, I’ve found that expensive, OTC natural fiber socks are the ones that most often in time require the use of garters as they tend to shrink. Mid-calf socks will stay up for a while and I’m sure the experience of most men is that during the course of a busy day they will droop and without your knowing it, you’re showing wrinkled socks and skin. Why take the chance? With garters you’re assured that your socks will look great all day, and properly adjusted and worn, you’ll never even feel that you’re wearing them. Also, what do you think about socks in an outfit that includes shorts? Maybe you could do a video over spring/summer attire where the calf would possibly be visible, and what socks (no shows, footie) would be best with sneakers and the like. (& I'm not talking about those sports socks you can get)the better quality one's which have an heel bias in them but sometimes they confuse you as to which sock is for which foot to compliment the bias!, all it needs is a small Letter L & R to solve this Dilemma!.

Ok, stop already, I never thought I would watch a video on socks but this man knows his socks and I am tired of restricted blood flow to my lower legs and feet. If only I could find the sort button on the website to help me find the lowest priced socks, all I found were $40 socks for a pair. Don't you guys feel uncomfortable with not having some fabric between each toe because of the sweat that is being produced in fine leather shoes. I personally love to wear toe socks. They give me a dry and comfortable feeling in my shoes. I just had and still have a very difficult time to find toe socks that are beautiful, not boring in a simple color like black, and that are actually over the calf. And when the toe socks are over tge calf they slide down. This is a problem I faced. Socks that slide down. I bought me some "normal" over the calf socks and I am pretty happy with how they looks (they have a cool design) but my toes just wet after some time in my shoes. My perfect sock, at least in my mind, is a sock where every toe has its own place covered by fabric and a sock that does not slide down and a sock that simply looks beautiful for the individual and hopefully for the fine gentlemen out there. Highly relevant topic for me. Where can a stocky guy with large and thick lower legs find dress socks? I buy dress socks in my shoe size (US 12 1/2) but I find that the top opening of the socks are WAY too small for me. The elastic opening can't stretch enough for me to pull them over my calves so I leave them on just under my calves (some 3 or 4 inches above my ankle). Even then the elastic opening digs into my leg and after a long day, they leave an imprint when I take them off. I had the same problem with athletic socks until I received "diabetes socks" as a gift. I don't have diabetes but they sure are comfortable. Been using them for years now, but they are too thick to use with a suit. Previously I had a blue collar job where the uniform was jeans, t-shirt, and boots. Now that I'm in an office setting, finding comfortable dress socks is becoming an issue. Any advice?

OH, THE SACRIFICES WE MAKE TO LOOK GOOD: I hate big elastics on socks; they make me feel like I'm wearing diabetes compression socks all day. I'm willing to put up with a little slouch to have comfortable socks (acrylic is my favorite). Maybe if you are at top-law firm, you need to be more careful. Nowadays, most people don't dress this fancy to work in most organizations.

I would buy their socks, but given the potential of being hit by a huge customs fee + VAT on top of all that. It just puts me off. I'm from the UK here, and just go for the italian sock manufacturers, like Gallo. If I were them, I would have the business set up in such a way that eliminates that issue, given that their socks are actually made in itally... no disrepect at all, I want to buy them. Just don't see the reason too.

Another quality brand is called Gallo. I swear they manufacture the socks for Fort Belvedere. They have a pair that looks identicle to the genlteman gazzette shop, which is a light grey with a bold reddish pink color. You'll know what I mean if you bother to look into it. The socks are VAT inclusive but... it's like £50 a pair. Ooph!
