There is so much recency bias these days. People throwing around ‘Goat’ aimlessly. Mark Allen and Dave Scott both won 6 Kona titles.

@@siitan83 pretty easy to set the course record when you can save 30% of your energy the whole bike ride by drafting 10 feet from the back wheel while going almost 40mph

Sam Laidlow beat his own Kona bike course record by ~8 minutes. He paid for those 8 minutes with 30 minutes on the run. I hope he got a huge sponsor bonus for the sub 4hr bike course record.

Pacing is everything, truly knowing your body inside and out, saving watts by riding at the back of the front pack is great strategy, and understanding that this race is almost always won and lost on the back half of the marathon

That was epic! Patrick Lange was the only one that the Kona course didn’t destroy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many amazing athletes humbled by the heat and humidity as well as the tempo of the powerhouse swim/cycle combination of Sam Laidlow. Great race!

It's a razor's edge ride, as we clearly saw yesterday. Overhyped stuff always goes wrong - sooner or later. I think, sustainable experience and intelligence is a big part of the puzzle and an important component of success...not just in our sport. BIG Congrats, Patrick!

Patrick Lange might be the GOAT that everyone in the sport had overlooked. I cannot see this record be beaten anytime soon. Laidlow cannot run fast in Kona after destroying the field in the swim and bike sections. KB has shown his limits both in Paris and Kona. Frodeno's record in 2019 was 7h52. Technology has improved but not by 16 mn.. Gustav Iden has not confirmed his brilliant talent and promises. Mark Allen and Dave Scott are from another era etc...

You can't fit 30 guys in a row at 20m. That would be a 600m long train. How could anyone overtake? 12m is fine. You hardly get any benefit at that distance. It's the motorbikes that give far more benefit.

It's more difficult than you'd expect. Too much to write here, but unless your race is limited to 20 people, there's just not enough room for an IM bc of the Age Group race component.

I was disappointed! Too many blowups. Many didnt do their race trying to follow others in the bike. I think they lost the respect to the race. Time to go back to basics?
