@@robertkidnley93 It took 15 years to get properly diagnosed. And even now, different doctors give different advice. I was not looking for random shite on KZbin - if you had half a brain and any experience of having a long term illness, you'd know that it's sensible to reasearch your condition outside of a doctor's appointment. The shit on the internet - including your semi-literate comment - just makes the job harder.

Doctor here: the pseudosciece battle is one of the biggest problems on medicine right now, some times it is really hard to differentiate between science and lies, but there are some basic things you can be on the look out for: - if the person focus on a brand name rather than the active principle. - If they offer easy solutions. - if the studies they show you have a small ammount of participants. - If they infer in any way that doctors don't know about this. -If something can cure several different problems ("it cures your heart, liver and kidneys!") - if they use very complex words OR they simplify everything to a single cause.

Already unsubbed from one youtuber whom I watched almost daily for a decade because he kept using scare tactics when peddling BetterHair, or whatever that company was called (I don't remember and I'd rather not remember). I did leave several comments asking him to drop them or change the opener beforehand, but it went unseen or ignored. We don't have to put up with that bull, we can choose what we're exposed to. If watching an ad makes you feel bad about yourself, it's not your fault, it's 100% the ad's, and you feeling bad is by design. Don't let them have that power over you! Adblock/sponsorblock if you have to, you deserve better than to be shamed into paying for sham products.

Yes. And isn’t there something uniquely American flavoured about that? Even if we see it everywhere? I’d like to see them do a follow up video to this one? Almost every sentence could have been a whole topic unto itself. The most powerful element of this video, for me, was something they only touched on briefly: the model of American Capitalism, unique to that country, which allows healthcare to fall into the hands of the profiteers, and doesn’t ban the marketing of witch’s brews. A whole video should be dedicated to how American Capitalism has shaped healthcare and created the environment for such a vast market to grow out of vanity, insecurities mixed with genuine, unmet health concerns? Gwyneth Paltrow with a Carpet Bag is an image that symbolises those things for me. She realised that she was past her prime, by Hollywood’s ruthless, sexist metric, and clearly meditated on the solution to that problem, as Hollywood has defined it for her, rather than the mental health problems they create, becoming both the ultimate victim of their unfair, unrealistic standards for women, whilst becoming the ultimate perpetrator, practically recreating an overnight industry leader in pseudo-science and old wife’s tales. She certainly breathed new life into the existing models. She’s Red Dead Redemption’s Nigel West Dickens, for the 21st Century. Not all bad, but certainly a little sinister. There’s a movie script in that, probably? And, with equal rights and progressive attitudes towards women, have come equal exploitation opportunities of cosmetics, wellness and fitness cures for men. Isn’t Captain America the ultimate embodiment of that? Tony Stark famously told him in the first Avengers movie, “Everything special about you came out of a bottle.” To which Steve Rogers should have said, “Well, duh! That’s the American way. And I’m Captain, ‘who,’ again?”

@@geoffreyallen3766 : If only someone was willing to tell women that, if you want to stop ageing, your skin is the last organ you need to treat with cosmetics? Look after your internal organs and never sunbathe; and you’ll find your skin glows and refuses to sag and wrinkle, mostly because you stopped stressing it out with unnecessary cares and stopped abusing it with chemicals. Personally, I invest in the brain as my primary organ of care, and work my way through and outward, from there. By looking after my brain, I’ve saved a fortune in testicular injection and hair loss products cash, which I get to spend on the video games, which make me smarter, if the science is to be believed? 😉

One thing i think Wisecrack missed when it comes to their wellness ideology, it shares similarities with MLMs ... if you fail to achieve your goals, its not the product's fault or Tom Brady's, its YOUR fault for not following their ideology like the TB12 plan. The sad part about it is that much of this could be avoided if healthcare was treated more importantly in the US. Easy access to doctors can make it much harder for snakeoil salesman to take advantage of you. If you’re seeing your regular doctor on a fairly frequent basis, you’d be able to talk to them about your health concerns rather than let social media tell you what to think about it. Many of the harms that were discussed in the video would be avoided altogether if people actually went to their doctor more. As always, these types of products go for people who have medical care being some of the most expensive costs in their lives. So instead of going to a doctor, they’ll seek out their own self medication to achieve results

Health and wellness are not that straightforward, diets and exercise types can vary pretty wildly person to person, every body is different and it's part of what allows these industries to thrive, because sometimes there's little off things that happen to work for some people. And so long as the doctors are working for profit, some of them wont really have your best interest in mind. This isnt to say their untrustowrthy or hacks or anything, but the amount of money pumped into pharmaceuticals should give us some pause.
@trevor4950
@trevor4950 3 жыл бұрын
@@edwinbeta2806 that’s definitely a valid point. Though I would wonder how that system of profit would change if healthcare were paid for on the national level. It’s possible we would see doctors not needing/wanting to rely on being paid by pharma companies. Not to mention that more time spent with your doctor means they can keep up on how meds are working for you. Any reasonable doctor would be willing to change meds for you if you ask to change it. If it’s not working for you, they’re obligated to help you. And if your meds work but are the more expensive variety, that would be mitigated on the national stage. If Zoloft works for you, then why change it if the meds are affordable you know? It’s negative now because we have a hard time with the prohibitive cost of medications. Making sure it’s easily accessible (aka affordable) means that patients can have the time they need to get the meds that work best for them.

How to be healthy (feat. There are genuine content creators out there like Hybrid Calisthenics for one and plenty others that merely want to share there ideas of wellness and there ways on how to achieve it. My advice for anyone looking to get fit or become a “better version of yourself” do your own research and don’t trust one person that claims to gave have a magic supplement or killer routine that will instantly build your body or cure you’re depression without any work.
