With certain composers you come over time to understand that they reward repeated listening. And when a kind of culminating resolution ocurs, if it is accompanied by the recollection of the initial wonder and attraction of the first hearing, it is an extraordinary event in one's life with music. .Like saying: "I've always loved this piece, now I'm beginning to understand it. It's become a part of my life's solace and exaltation." I Musici presents such a convincing presentation of Felix Mendelssohn's work with all his feelings and intentions, this "personal" event is also enhanced by the feeling of being attendant at a miraculous artistic revelation,, a true meeting of minds and hearts across the ages. Thank you, Kanaal van viool7, for posting this.

Mendelssohn later in his mid 30's said he cannot write chamber music as good as the Octet he wrote at age 16.

***** Many composers were not necessarily prodigies. Mahler, for example, wrote his symphonies after the age of thirty, and some of them are absolutely beatiful.

Mendelssohn's rebellious teenage phase was one of the most musically productive times of his life. He has naivete here you can hear that he later loses and can only recover sporadically.

Eusebio Ruvalcaba C.

We couldn't help noticing the similarity of the 4th movement to Handel's "Messiah"" The Hallelujah Chorus" - "And he shall reign forever and ever" -anybody know what we mean?! Later - I had not heard the work before, it was on Radio 3, and it is sublime! I have now googled it, and this point was specifically commented on - we laughed!
@davidcraft73425 жыл бұрын
As I heard Rob Kapilow describe it, Mendelssohn's quote of the Chorus was deliberate...and a bit like painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa. Quoting another composer was praise...and in this case, also a bit of a teenage prank.
