I think my favorite part about Pauper is that the cards veer wildly between "draft chaff" and "legacy staples". And sometimes it's the draft chaff that kicks your butt.

​@@ASleath One such instance of draft chaff coming in clutch was at Paupergeddon this past weekend! I believe it was Contaminated Ground? It's 1B and turns enchanted land into a Swamp, and it absolutely won the whole tournament for a Madness player! He brought it in as a sideboard card to deal with a lot of the format's big land threats like Forest-based ramp, Basilisk Gate, and Tron.

I think I assumed the statement about draft chaff was along the lines of other comments where people say the creatures are 'bad' in Pauper, which is my bad. I need to read up on Paupergeddon, I have heard the community talking about how cool it was but haven't looked at results yet.

@@ASleath I didn't watch it live, but it was one of the biggest Pauper tournaments of the year. Around 650 entrants (which is kinda crazy for that format). It had 7 different archetypes in Top 8!

Game one, a thoughtcast came off the top for toralf. You reminded him he had a springleaf drum to make blue, but didn’t explain that tapping his myr enforcer gave you exactly enough damage to kill!! Good play!

I’m stoked that you guys keep running pauper games. I built quite few pauper decks for play with friends before/after EDH games. Took them apart cause we hardly played them. Now, I mostly play 1v1 / Modern or Timeless. MH3 has made me look at Pauper again and it’s time to start building decks!

@@natben6099not more busted than most the artifact removal in pauper. Like gorilla shaman as a card just works over all 2 or more colored artifact decks. And crimson acolyte works even better by making it unequip. I think there’s definitely ways it would’ve been busted, but it’s much much worse than ATG or Cranial Plating. That +1 toughness hurts it way more than it’s given credit for.

This is a VERY minor thing. I remember Mengu giving great advice on waiting for the right moment to play Experimental Synthesizer. You don't really want to play it too early in case you brick. No harm in waiting until turn 3 or 4. Thoralf played it a little soon in my humble opinion. Little things like that is what makes MTG so great

It's different for the artifacts deck in such a tempo-oriented matchup. The Myr enforcer in hand and the Myr enforcers off the reckless wouldn't have been castable the turns they were without that Synth in play. It's nice to get value off of it, but the matchup is too fast for value to really matter: see how both games end with cards in hand and no mana left unspent. The chance to get a land is important too as Thoralf misses land drop #4 later.

I don’t know if you take suggestions for video topics, but one thing I’ve always thought of is a sort of “Vintage Modern” Modern, but every card on the Banlist is instead restricted. I think it would be a fun little experiment to gauge the modern banlist balance

Hexproof from black just has an effect on targeting from black effects. Since damnation doesn't target that is why it is able to kill creatures with hexproof from black. Protection from a color prevents all damage done from sources of that color. So the damage from fiery cannonade would be prevented
