Some things that have helped to control my hairfall include: (1) I stopped wearing hair ties because it causes tension damage. (2) I started massaging my scalp twice a week with liitleextra cocoonnion hair oil while leaning forward & holding my head upside down to allow blood flow to the scalp. (3) Covering my head while moving out to safeguard my hair from dust and pollution. (4) Using mild shampoo again from liittleextra only to wash my hair.

I’m a woman :) I just turned 60. When I finally finished menopause my hair fall was crazy. I had about 6 or 7 PRP treatments and I started using Rogaine foam. This was about 3 years ago. I had lost so much hair on my temple area I was embarrassed. I couldn’t wear my hair straight as it looked so thin. I worked at a doctors office who offered PRP so I took advantage of it. After a few months I could see little hairs sprouting so I went all in. I take Biotin, Saw Palmetto ( slows or stop hair fall) NAC which makes it grow a bit faster and milk thistle to support my liver. I use 5% Rogaine after I wash my hair( every 3rd day) I use a derma roller to ready the scalp then apply. I use another product a minty serum on my scalp on the off nights no roller just massage. My hair is better than in my 20’s ( curling irons and box dye) even the 30’s when I stared to use good products. I started with barley shoulder length thin hair. My hair is still very fine but I have a ton of it now and it shines and is very healthy and has grown at a pretty astounding rate. It’s past my mid back. No regrets. Once you get in a routine it’s easy:) I also don’t use heat on my hair only if I absolutely have to. I air dry and wrap it in a sock bun or a sock on each side. I have the laser helmet also but I have a super small head. My husband thinks I’m crazy but why do my products disappear when it’s just the two of us in the home😂his hair is looking pretty good too!

I started my peri menopause journey in 1999. It lasted for 10 years. What a roller coaster ride it was. The hormonal changes were pretty bad. So many changes to contend with including hair loss. It was horrible. I started using Rogain 5% in 2000 and have continued using it to this day. I also use some supplements such as Biotin. I tried other products thru the years as a substitute for Rogain in the early years of my journey because back then Rogain was very expensive. I found nothing has worked except Minoxidil so I keep using it. I also use it on my eyebrows. Just use a Qtip to apply and it has saved my brows. I really haven’t noticed any dryness in my scalp, but I do use very moisturizing hair products so I guess that helps my scalp too. Life on the other side of perimenopause is much better except it is much more difficult to keep weight off.
@ksanders22926 жыл бұрын
As women we simply except that hair loss is simply the result of menopause and/or hormones, we never ask or get to the cause of menopause and/or hormones. I had thinning hair, was told it's due to premenapause, I stopped coloring my hair - guess what, my hair loss stopped and I started to get a lot of regrowth. I've fully transitioned to grey (I'm 49) and now it's thicker and healthier than it's ever been. I focused on my diet and foods that help the liver - all "menopause" symptoms stopped. Promoting unnecessary products is not a long term solution, changing one's diet is.
@Atheria444 Жыл бұрын
One of the reasons I finally stopped dying my hair 2-3 years ago was the hair loss each time I dyed it. It didn't help my already thinning hair any. But, I got bored last Sunday and did put a temporary red dye (no ammonia or hydrogen peroxide...washes out in 12 shampoos max) on my hair. It's been fun to be a redhead, but I'll go back to my natural gray.

As a integrative nutritional advisor, I would highly recommend you do not use Minoxidil as it is an endocrine disrupter. I have had hair loss too due to PCOS in a classic male pattern way. The most usual cause of hair loss in women (and there is a video on my page) is due to the conversion of testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone), so it is important to get this tested. Also check thyroid (optimal TSH is 1.5), ferritin, vitamin D and iodine levels and make sure they are optimal! Iodine and magnesium is best taken, if required, transdermally to avoid toxicity and irritation. It is also important that Cortisol is not out of control. The supplement I have been using to prevent the conversion of testosterone to DHT is Saw Palmetto. I have been doing this for about 2 months now as well as supplementing with nascent iodine (OK as long as you have no thyroid disorder), and making sure my ferritin (which has been low) is optimal too. I have seen good results. I am going to restart my channel shortly, so will be sure to address this with an update. x
@carmenwilley88585 жыл бұрын
I get my yearly blood tests done when I see my primary doctor and wonder if these blood tests also show ferritin, iodine and vitamin D levels? My doctor just tells me if the blood tests were all in range or not. I know the metabolism is checked, thyroid.
@truth-alwayswins5 жыл бұрын
Zoe-Holistic Health Agreed. The testosterone conversion to DHT is the key factor with male pattern baldness in women. Products and supplements that block the conversion, including progesterone cream-Emerita is great-make a big difference. I have never heard of Minoxidil doing anything for male pattern baldness in women. Typically women are estrogen dominant at menopause and that unchecked estrogen converts to testosterone and then DHT.

Zoe-Holistic Health, would love to know when you start your channel. I’ve been steadily losing at a faster rate since being premenopausal. My functional medicine doc has checked most things except nutrient levels. I am hypo, take desiccated thyroid and lots of other things. This struggle is real! Aging is not for the weak of heart! 😂🙄 My hair fell out for two years straight once I hit age 55. I’m 58 now and it has finally stopped! I’m not near bald but I definitely don’t have hair as thick as I once had. The problem I had with Rogaine was that my haircolor didn’t stick to my roots while I was using it. So it became a choice of gray hair or more hair! Ha ha Ha! I did choose hair color! Things seem to have evened out now and I’m not losing like I used to. Thank goodness! Thank you- I really love your videos! I just have to say as well, that if you are losing hair, I strongly recommend Seeing a hair specialist. If you are losing hair, time is NOT on your side. It’s easier to stop hair loss than to regrow (and less expensive). I am a physician and after 2 dermatologists over 2 years, I finally saw a wonderful hair loss specialist from Northwestern. Game changer. He started me on 82F. It’s been so helpful and much better tolerated for me than any minoxidil products. He said that 82F is currently the best out there for female and male pattern baldness. He also recommended trying other things too, but he said go with 82F over minoxidil. Hope this helps! I found that even though the 2% does indeed make my hair FEEL a little gross, it also gives it more body, which makes it look like I have more hair already (still waiting...it's only been 2 months). But you can mitigate that by being more careful to use the dropper to get down to the scalp, so less solution gets on the hair. Also, after the solution is on for several minutes, I make sure I thoroughly brush through the areas where it was applied so it disperses the solution that didn't make it to the scalp through the length of the hair. I'll use my blow dryer and pull the hair up towards the ceiling and make sure to blast the area above the roots. That will help.

Hi Angie, I've been using minoxidil for at least 10-15 years or more. Yes, there is the gross hair effect, but there is a big pay-off in the end. Typically I used it after work and then a little more at bedtime and try to space it more when I was home. Just a little in the morning can decrease the feeling that you describe; then more when you get home. It has been proven scientifically to re-grow hair. In time, you only have to use it once a week to keep the beautiful fullness. I actually have more hair now than when I began in my 40's. Back in the day, I had many aunts and my mom that began to wear wigs. I was determined never to have to do that. It was a huge success! The only other scientifically proven products are the laser hair combs. I am anxious to see your results. As you know there are many products that "claim" to help with growth, but the only growth they have provided is the billions of dollars of growth to the hair industry. Ladies--save your money unless the product has been tested through scientific studies and results are proven. Remember, that hair is dead tissue--it is what is happening within your scalp that needs to be addressed. In my case, and as in most cases it can be driven by genetics. Thank you, Angie for the testing and the knowledge that you present! Well done!

I shake it up and it lasts over a month. I rub it into my scalp in a circular motion, put on a shower cap and sleep with it overnight. I wake up and shower and wash my hair. It's never oily. I have poker straight and fine hare. The tea tree oil took a little time to get used to. I think it made my scalp itch a little, but now I don't have any issue. I also color my hair and I have never had a problem. I have non-pigmented hair in the front and have not had any issues with my color. My hair has never looked better. I started menopause and losing my hair 30s after battling cancer. My hair never came back the way it was prior to cancer. I have used everything. This has been the only treatment that has worked for me. I put pure caster oil on my eyelashes and eyebrows and since I can't believe how much better they look. She doesn't understand how Minoxidil works. At first, it can cause some hair-loss (because it's affecting the follicles and changing them from the growing phase to the resting phase, while others are going from the resting phase to the growing phase). When the new hair comes in, it's very short and starts out without any color (the color comes in as the hair gets longer). This woman has lost some hair from using Minoxidil and it's too early for any new hair to have come in. Putting it on her part, where she hasn't lost hair yet, is a mistake... as is buying her husband a hair-growth device for Christmas (how insulting is that gift!).

I actually know the answer to this! It has to do with the amount needed for the scalp and its prohibitive cost because of the availability of the ingredients.

I have very fine hair & always had that receding on the sides but have noticed regrowth in the hairline lately. Not sure what contributed to that, maybe my diet. I eat leafy greens like spinach every day so maybe it's from my iron levels being higher now. I also take spirulina .Iron deficiency is a known contributor to hair loss & a lot of women are low in iron. I also use rosemary oil massaged in once a week.

Since have new growth along my hairline, density in my crown area and my once sparce brows and lashes are now full and even!😊I also, like to add...modern day shampoos contain silicone formulated to smooth and mask split ends...it coats the scalp as well, suffocating the hair folical...using a good sulfate and silicone free shampoo is key! Hair loss is from variety of things going on inside the body, belie it or not but a lot of menopausal women are low in ferritin and for hair loss to stop you have to be above 60, also if you have low thyroid you will loose hair as well. I have been taking collagen powder with peptides for 2 months and I noticed less hair shedding, nails got strong too

Exactly! Mine was down to 32, and I had to wear a wig! Got prescription iron, biotin, steroid shots in the head (?), put coconut oil in my hair, and it eventually came back. The iron did bring my ferritin up to 70 I think.. It is not a full as it was..but it is not bad!!

I like the 5% foam so much better; I part my hair in several sections and apply directly to the scalp. I find it easier to apply and less greasy. Parting my hair also helps keep it cleaner. I have dry naturally curly hair, so I only shampoo twice a week. One of those shampoos is with Nizoral, an anti-dandruff shampoo that contains ketoconazole, which is supposed to help against DHT. I've been doing this for 4 months and I've definitely noticed less fallout, some regrowth, and my hair seems thicker. I also take a few supplements, including biotin, black currant oil, vitamin D, etc. Everything I've read has said that success seems to lie in a multi-prong approach.

I managed a beauty supply company for some 10 years and sold Nioxin, and I have to say that of the hundreds of customers we sold it to, I never once had a positive response..... it never made any difference in any of the women's hair loss. Also, we were always taught that women could not use the Rogaine meant for men as it would cause extremely high blood pressure to the level of being dangerous. Perhaps it's different now, I don't know..... I'm in my late 70's so it's been a good 15 - 20 years since selling it. As for the Laser headband, I know nothing about that and wonder if it is actually some kind of laser. If so, wouldn't that be detrimental to a person's health putting it up around the forehead by the eyes and brain? I would want a lot more information on that before using it! I didn't have any balding back when I sold these products, but now I wish there were some miracle formula & as yet, there isn't ladies. This woman is still quite young and has lots of hair, a beautiful woman. Others of us who are much older don't have 1/10 of what she has! I have a lot of balding, top and sides, tho' the back of my hair is still pretty thick. If anyone comes up with something which really works for those who are older, I would like to know. I've heard that the problem is a lack of vitamin B, which is what our Nioxin salesmen used to say, too. After menopause, many women begin to have poor circulation, and Vitamin B is supposed to be good to help that. If you can stimulate circulation, then the hair will grow, or so they say. Perhaps the answer is to lie down on a bed with your head hanging over the side, and brush well, invigorating the scalp. I just don't know, but feel the only answer for someone like me is to buy a wig!
@dilberta60465 жыл бұрын
Vitamins can never replace lost hormones. I take hrt and can only hope it's helped some. I don't even wanna think about how thin my hair would be without. And no, Nioxxin didn't help my hair at all and I wouldn't use Rogaine for potential side effects on the body that shouldn't be ignored.

I got hit with the double whammy: alopecia areata (bald spots) along with hormonal thinning. About a year ago I had 1/3 less hair than I used to have. A THIRD! It was so scary! I had spent most of my life trying to tame my massive amounts of hair, then suddenly having to look for volume adding products. But I am happy to report that my bald spots are almost completely grown in. I tried pretty much everything, so I can't really say what helped the most. But I did the 5% Rogaine (but not always consistently), as well as the occasional oil treatment using castor oil mixed with some coconut oil with a few drops of rosemary essential oil (good for hair growth) and frankincense essential oil (I think frankincense is good for everything!). My acupuncturist recommended Fo-Ti, so I took that daily for quite a while - I still take it, just not every day now. And of course, all the usual hair supplements such as Biotin, Silica, D3, and many others. And I just started taking kera health hair growth supplements, which were recommended by Stephanie Marie on youtube. I have only been taking that for about a week or so, but I am hoping that will add to the Hair Growth Party I am on! :)

I would like to add that some medications cause hair loss. About a year ago I noticed I was having massive hair loss (and I didn't have really thick hair to begin with so I couldn't afford to lose any). I had recently changed my BP medication and also started a medication for cluster headaches. After speaking with my pharmacist, I discovered that both of those medications had a potential for causing hair loss. So I went back to my doc and had the BP changed to one that does not list potential hair loss as a side effect, and I stopped taking the cluster headache meds. The hair loss definitely slowed down, but I still am having more loss than I would like. I tried the Nioxin and didn't see any big difference. Recently, I have started two new things and am waiting to see what they do. 1) I have started using the shampoo, conditioner and serum by Nutri-OX (I love that the serum does not cause my hair to be gunky as I was concerned that it would) and 2) I have started dermarolling my scalp. Hopefully between the two, I will see some results.

I used minoxidil for about a year and, in retrospect, it grew my hair. I used the 5% and did get peach fuzz side burns (extremely subtle) and some hair down the nape. I was only applying the foam to the top of my head. I worked out pretty heavily at that time so I think I was sweating it to the other areas. Since I didn’t apply until after my workout and shower, I must have been sweating the application from the day before. These were not large concerns though. Overconfident in the new growth, I quit minoxidil after 14 months and, indeed, it took the hair with it. :(. Thinking hard about whether or not to resume knowing now that it is a VERY real commitment.
@ampa49894 жыл бұрын
I think the extraneous growth could be systemic. There have been reports of some women getting more hair in odd places -- the back, arms, near the jaws. Not necessarily from sweating/transfer of application. Yes, it's a lifetime commitment. Makes you think. But then everything seems to be a lifetime commitment. Never ends. Never.

I think you may be mistaking hair getting finer for hair loss. Most women when they age the strands of hair become finer. Some women have a combination of both (finer and hair loss) but it's more rare. Hair strands getting finer will not improve with hair loss remedies. Take biotin and eat green vegetables for internal skin, hair and nail growth. What would help for this natural process are scalp massages to stimulate the follicles. Use jojoba oil, rosemary, avocado oil (those are just a few). Turn your head upside down and gently massage the oil into the scalp. Leave on overnight or for a few hours. And after shampooing rinse the scalp and hair with a vinegar/water mix. I mix half apple cider vinegar with chamomile tea. For darker hair mix with water . Also, fresh rosemary boiled on the stove and then left to cool will provide scalp benefits along with shiny hair. Your avocation for chemical solutions have some serious side affects for women. One of which is the lowering of blood pressure. The alcohol in the product can actually cause more hair loss plus it is flammable when your hair is still wet. Never use Rogain products without the recommendation of your doctor.

I hope u see this an answer. How can u tell if it's actual hair loss, or thinner strands? My hair used to be great. Now it is a limp mess. I can see my scalp, but still when I look closely, scalp looks like it is still full of hair. Bummer! I am oiling my scalp with jojoba oil as a carrier with peppermint, rosemary, and/or lavender.

Please don’t use those laser products. I used to market them for a company, and ended up reading (and watching videos) about LL Lasers - they’re a total gimmick. Laser CANNOT reach or stimulate the hair follicles. I was so appalled by the rubbish I had to write about and sell to poor, unsuspecting people (LaserMax, penis extenders, Bluetooth vaginal tighteners 😱) that I handed in my notice after 9 months and reported them to the MHRA for selling US products banned in England by stating their website was in Atlanta...they’d put on American accents when an order via the US site came through and called themselves Jethroe and Ellie-May. Put me off marketing for life!

Glad you shared this. I have seen 2 dermatologists, both not convinced yet with the "science" and studies about LL lasers for hair loss. Same goes for PRP treatments. Many hair loss clinics offer these services, both extremely expensive and like rogaine, must be used for a lifetime.

Nope, the pictures aren't backwards, the before is the before and the after is the after. In each set of 2 pictures you should be seeing the same thing since the 2nd B&A picture is just a more zoomed-in version of the 1st B&A pic. The difference is subtle (since I was only using it for 4-6 months) but I can see it better if I squint at the pictures. xo ~a.

PLUME 1 The sad thing is that many dermatologist's do not seem to be highly knowledgeable about hair loss in women either and the research has been out and they should be. The good news is that we live in time when much scientific research and well cited articles are on the internet to read. Also, Angie and others make videos about their results, which is helpful. Stay focused on well-researched information. It is a billion-dollar business that preys on women. Generic minoxidil is approved scientifically by the FDA and it is inexpensive. Also use a DHT-removing shampoo when you shampoo. Those are the two things that will help you. There is never a need to subscribe to multi-level hair potions that are expensive. Actually, some of them are just the same generic minoxidil, but just very expensive. It's the scalp to focus on, and not the hair which is dead tissue. If you want to use another shampoo after your DHT-removing shampoo, feel free, and then use any conditioner that you'd like. A full head of hair takes patience and dedication, but it does not have to cost a fortune. There is hope! :-)

I lost a lot of hair as a result of menopause and my doctor put me on 5% minoxidil 1 time per day, and it worked great. I used it for a couple of years and quit. I did not experience as much hair loss when I quit, and I did not lose as much as before. Last year I was diagnosed with colon cancer, stage 3 (they caught it early and I am now cancer free), so I had to have 6 months of chemo. You do not lose all your hair with this type of chemo, however, you can lose hair. I knew I would lose hair, which I did, so I started on 5% twice a day. With chemo, you have to apply it all over. It saved my hair! It completely quit shedding and I was having a lot of hair loss with chemo. After chemo, I used it 1 time per day and now, I use it, one time per day, every other day.

I am guy. I got great minoxidil results. Only 40% of men respond. Research in men shows that the difference between responders and non responders is the presence of the sulfotransferase enzyme in one’s follicles. I have used the liquid rather than the foam. It took a couple months but I found a way to get the solution on the scalp while getting very little in the hair. Let me know if you want to know about my simple method. I haven’t used the foam but apparently the key to putting the foam on without getting it all over your hair is to part it and then scoop a small bit of foam from a filled cap and then apply it along the part. Then move the part and repeat until the affected area is covered.

Hi Angie. I’ve been using Regaine (aust) 5% for 2 years. It took a long while to work 6-9 months before I was convinced. Also, look up some new research regarding retin-A assisting the absorption of minoxidil. I’ve been using retin-A for one year (in the normal manner). Six months ago my hairdresser started becoming annoyed at all my new growth at the front hairline(sticking up and generally misbehaving). Now I conclude that the retin-A has kicked in to that front hairline where I naturally applied it to my forehead, and improved the effectiveness of the minoxidil. Interesting!💋

Minoxidil can seriously increase risk of heart attacks! I use shampoo conditioner and scalp treatment that use caffeine, saw palmetto, black cumin seed, biotin etc. You can make a coffee oil to put on hair for an hour. I also had to go gluten free sugar free diet. I also use home laser treatment

If you are experiencing all over hair loss and especially if you know you are hypothyroid get your ferritin level tested. This is the storage aspect of our iron. You can show up fine iron wise but if your ferritin is low, below 30, you can experience significant hair loss. I was practically crying everytime I washed my hair at the amount clogging the drain in the shower. My ferritin level was 7. I started to use a whole food blood Builder supplement and after 2 months I was up to 25 and climbing. This is not a test that most doctors do if you don't request it because they don't know about the link to hair loss. If you are a woman with a very heavy cycle you can also be low in ferritin from losing so much blood every month.

While I realize this choice is not for everyone, I am 8 months into allowing my hair to transition to its natural color. I had the male pattern hair loss. I didn’t expect to see a change, but since I have stopped highlighting and coloring, my temples have completely filled in and my hair is much thicker. I am 55 years old. You mentioned you gave the headband lazer to your husband. Did he have any positive results? My husband would be thrilled if something really worked. Thank you for all you do!

I'm experiencing the thinning in exactly the same place! And I wear my hair back all the time since I had to stop HRT for a bit (huge weight gain). So I'm definitely listening closely. If something grosses me out like putting that in my hair I just can't do it. Just to amuse myself I've been putting a biotin serum for your lashes on the temple spot at night... Pls, keep us updated so I can hopefully get started on something since it takes so long to see results. xo ps... I almost forgot and I know you're going to love this... I heard in more than one place that Dermarolling promotes hair growth!! LOL!!

I was sleeping with rosemary oil on my scalp from 4/2022 to late 8/2023. I did see lots of baby hairs, but with time, it didn't seem like it was REALLY thickening. I do know I have too many male hormones on top of being 56. Menopause sucks! I've got most of my thinning in the temples and crown. Anyway, I stopped the rosemary (proven to be as good as 2% Minoxidil) oil because I don't want to have to wash my very dry hair daily anymore. I did start taking saw palmetto, which is a DHT blocker like rosemary and Minoxidil because I suspect I need to address my issue more internally than externally.

I don’t like the idea of putting lasers near my brain. Thank you for the info. I am to begin using Rogaine tomorrow. Yi!

I recently started using Nutri-ox serum. I saw it had good reviews on Amazon but I bought it at my local Sally's beauty supply store. The price is $16.99 without the membership card. I am happy with it so far and the price is much more affordable. I also started taking Neocell Super Collagen+ C that has biotin in it.

I had no luck with the foam 5% minoxidil, recommended by my MD. Used it regularly for over a year with no difference at all. Was about to give up but decided to try the liquid....and it IS working.

I understand how you feel about hair loss. I am blessed with great hair, but I have a thyroid disease & took a radio active pill which did make a lot of my hair fall out. I was grateful when it came back in even though it was gray. I also lost hair when my thyroid was low so that is something to checkout. Thanks for all your investigations on products.😍🙏

I try to stay natural. I use castor oil. For skin, eye lashes, eyebrows and hair. It’s worked for me. And no chemicals.

I started using the equate rogaine version. I haven’t had any issues with the solution. Mine was also aggravated by a seizure med used for nerve pain. My hair fell out in lumps. Fixed the nutritional issue due to the med, and the rogaine helped grow my hair back great.

Hi Angie- Can you fix all of our issues with being hot and flashy!!!??? I'm losing hair left and right!!! My ponytail used to only wrap twice and now I can wrap three times and could almost go four. Fortunately, I have thick hair and no one has really noticed! Congratulations on getting the light headband!!! Siri is contributing! How about that! ~Lori from Maryland

Lather And Lace Handcrafted Soap, Jewelry, and Gifts For The Western Lifestyle I've always been the same way..struggling to get rubber band around twice. Now it easily goes around twice and almost 3 times. Very scary!

Thanks Angie, I'm glad we're in the same age bracket and you can lead the way. Pretty darn scary about Siri listening.... wonder where that info is being passed along and stored. An interesting experiment might be to see how many ads you get for hair loss now.

I think I'd have to show Alexa the door then. :)

JoAnn Maddalena you couldn’t pay me to have Alexa. If they are doing it for just ads/money, then why are they keeping the info they get on us? What other info are they listening to and who hears it?
