Worst thing? She was crying for help the best way she knew how: Through song and everyone either laughed it up/about her or ignored her. Truly sad.

Wow that was really fresh. You saw things I haven't seen--the penny, the bum. She had no self-worth, yet sang better than anybody I've ever heard.

She was pure gold. Such a phenomenal talent, burnt from inside out. I guess people are feeling uncomfortable listening to her music, in a society that heavily promotes this "do what you want, no boundaries, no limits". That girl is there to remind to us all that there is a price to be paid and that makes so many people to just avoid listening to her.

SPOT ON. FIRST TIME I HEARD/SAW AMY WINEHOUSE VIDEO,BACK TO BLACK. I PRETTY MUCH WAS LIKE NO. THIS IS UNCOMFORTABLE., BUT OF COURSE THAT WAS BECAUSE I "KNEW" WHAT HER MUSIC WAS ABOUT. I CAN NOT GET ENOUGH OF HER. INDEED PRICES ARE TO BE PAID. WE SEE THIS AROUND THE WORLD TODAY. PRETTY FUCKING HOPELESS. WHEN HOPE IS ALL YOU HAVE.

Hello sunshine. Firstly, power to you. Secondly, I weep every time I hear Amy sing. I lived not far from her in the mid 2000s, and regularly saw her in the pubs in Camden. She lit up the room when she walked in, and a strange quiet descended on Camden the day we heard she passed. Such a shame that nobody was there for her. She was surrounded by vultures and leeches. A beautiful talent snatched from the world.

I have a poster of her grammy win presented by Tony Bennett. I framed it with red roses, which amy wore in her iconic hairstyle for good luck. I am so stoked they made a biopic of her! I am hesitant to see it but I am sure she would have been so happy to get the recognition!

Well she was a massive hip hop fan herself and good friends with many rappers. Indeed, her albums were produced by two very talented hip hop producers, Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson.

At the time of this video in the UK it was often interpreted that this was either, in reality or metaphorically, her murdering her ex or the memory of him.

back to black is back to darkness ,depression ... she said in an interview that its humour and also true lol.... amy never gets the credit for her writing .. she is a poet ...love is a losing game is a masterpiece... .. at the end she has the funeral for her heart ... !

Speaking of Black, have you ever had a listen to Pearl Jam’s Black? It’s a masterpiece. It’s about how one guys world just ends due to a breakup, rejection. It’s up there with Metallica for exploring the darkness. Don’t even do a video, just go listen but take a deep breath first.

Through all of her mental health and addiction struggles, I always admired her honesty. She told her story in her music, and she was so talented. If your looking for more of that honesty and good mental health advocacy, Tori Amos is great for that.

My take on it, knowing what we know about amy today... The whole song is a metaphor about addiction.
@amywinehoe2 жыл бұрын
That too, but it’s primarily based on her relationship with then boyfriend and later husband Blake Fielder Civil. She went “Back To Black” as a metaphor to her depression and drinking issues. A lot of people assume she was talking about drugs, but she didn’t consume hard drugs until she got back with him and they got married. He got her into hard drugs during that period of time, because he himself was a heavy drug addict who only went back with her after the sudden success of her album Back To Black. She was in love with him and was too blind too see how badly she was being manipulated and hurt by him. It’s a very sad story.

I have been in a relationship that was on and off because she had too many bad habits and could not leave the drama alone. I kept going back because I wanted to help, but I finally realized I couldn’t keep both of us afloat. I had to let go, or sink with her. One of the most painful decisions I’ve ever made.

Well Amanda my happy bank is getting fuller. No more flashbacks and now the nightmares I have every night are not so vivid. I had one about my best friend getting wasted just a few feet away from me just outside Konar Afghanistan. I did not wake up with the sweats or yelling. Instead I woke with tears in my eyes because I miss him and the other guys I knew that died in that damn war. I am having normal emotions again for once. I now have more hope that these demons that have been in my head for almost 12 years are going back to Afghanistan where they belong!! The demons are dying off and I am starting to feel human again. Big hug little sister!!! SSG. Rick James U.S. Army (Ret.) 11 Bravo!!!

I appreciate where you're coming from and your recommendations are very good BUT you gave very little attention to Amy's amazing talent as a singer/artist. @MentalAmanda2 жыл бұрын
Of course it can. I got divorced last year. Not because I didn't love him. That divorce was the biggest and most selfless act of love I could muster. Because I knew he wasn't happy and he deserved to be. Nothing I did was making him happy. In the end, we love each other more now, as friends, and can express that love in a much healthier way. We're both better off now. You can love someone without being with them. You can love someone from afar if necessary.

Hi Amanda, I have been following your music reactions for some time and do enjoy them. I have two recommendations for songs that do not pull any punches in hammering their messages home. The first one is Light me up by Kobra and the Lotus (kzbin.info/www/bejne/foPJhHh7qd-rq8k). It's about child bullying and neglect. Prepare a box of tissues, a box of chocolates and a bottle of red wine for treatment. Play to the very end for messages by the band. It's also a test. People who do not feel this song or make silly comments like "other kids have it worse" are not to be trusted and best avoided. The second one is Eden by Battle Beast (kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZndpKaBl55sapI). They're taking a stand for battered/abused women. And of course the silly, shallow part of humanity that didn't get the message had nothing better to comment than "Ew!" on the woman peeling off her scars. Strong messages do require strong images. On a lighter note: In the face of their singer Noora certain "men" will certainly experience shrinkage. I do hope you will in due course of time get around to these two videos.

I loved the way you broke the tension of the dark mood at the end of the song by telling us how getting back together with an ex is like trying to put the poop back in! LOL Please consider reacting to 13-year-old Grace Vandewaal singing her original "Darkness Keeps Chasing Me". (She's normally very upbeat and goofy but sometimes darkness chases all of us!)
