In the US, we had the DARE program for children, which increased drug use. It consisted of police coming to schools, describing drugs and what they do, and telling kids not to do them. 🙄 It essentially just made kids really curious because it made recreational drugs sound awesome. The war on drugs hasn't helped society but actively harmed it.

I love when you break these episodes down. There is always so much I didn't see before. Season 15 has a two part character arch in which Stan March (the ten year old) is infected with overwhelming cynicism and can no longer see the good in the world and it leads him into alcoholism and despair. Again, as a ten year old. The episodes are titled something like "everything is crap" and "ass-bergers" so that will kind of tell you what you're in for. Thank you again for the great video!

I was in a class where they had D.A.R.E. A cop came in with a clear case of different drugs. The only thing it did was show us what drugs were which drugs and what they did. I'm positive it did not achieve what they thought it would achieve.

That sounds awesome, our dare guy brought in special glasses that "let you see what it's like to be drunk" and then only half the class got to use them before they left. Best way to keep kids from wanting to experience something is letting half of the kids experience it and have fun while the other half is forced to watch and fill out a worksheet. I don’t smoke weed that often, but a couple of months ago I just let my mind wander while I was listening to a song and I actually had a very therapeutic moment. Without going into detail, I was basically able to speak to my younger self, with all the emotions as if it was happening, and it was like a dam burst , and some old fears and terrors and baggage definitely haven’t been as bad since experiencing that. it Could very easily be confirmation bias or something similar, but it was powerful. There are perspectives You get, some real, some imagined that can definitely be useful or frightening.

It’s not exactly the same as choking, but in the ‘80s there was a trend of teenagers hyperventilating in order to pass out. I tried it a few times. Apparently I was entertaining to watch, and some people pressured me to keep doing it even when I got uncomfortable with it. A couple people had my back though, and shut down the pressuring.

What is often overlooked in the assessment of this episode is that the fact that multiple separated individuals experience the same place suggests they are actually experiencing some sort of meta experience. That maybe the Major Boobage universe is some sort of other dimensional reality. Maybe they can reach the same plane with meditation or possibly reading magazines from France circa 1978...

It talks about alcoholism with Randy but the AA meeting he goes to makes him think that he can't beat it on his own, that he's "powerless" and only God and a miracle can cure him. Novel Psychoactive Substances are one of my favorite topics in the world! You should do a video on them! Any way I could reach out to you? I’m not anything resembling an official “source” of information, but I’ve been neck deep in researching psychoactive substances for over a decade and specifically NPS for that past 4 or 5 years, and during my journey through the (US) mental healthcare system, it’s really shocking how totally out of the loop healthcare professionals are. They have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what I’m talking about when I mention them, and this video alone has demonstrated a deeper understanding of them than I’ve run into after many months experience with dozens of therapists/psychiatrists.

I'm not a big South Park guy. Some of them are alright, but generally speaking it doesn't do it for me. I do like 'boobage' a lot though; however, I prefer 'boobage' to be proportional to the woman they are attached to. I'd like to see your take on "Se7en." I saw some bug spray and it reminded me of it. This girl kept telling me, "you'll never guess what happens at the end," but as soon as I saw that box, I knew exactly what had happened. "It's what I would have done," was not the right thing to say on a first maybe a date. I meant if I were a serial killer, not like I was going to do it for a weekend project, and she seemed like she was into that sort of thing anyway. I neither saw nor heard from her again though. I'm going to devote my life to finding and breeding tree frogs now. Thanks for the video Doctor Carthy.

In BDSM it was called Autoerotic Asphyxiation and was presented in pop culture in the play and movie The Ruling Class. The 1972 movie starred Peter O'Toole as a gentle psychotic who believes he is Jesus Christ who is actually the last heir of a prominent and very wealthy Aristocratic family - it opens with the previous head of family "accidentally" killing himself while performing Autoerotic Asphyxiation in tights and a frilly tutu and 19th century military uniform dress coat and 3 cornered hat...

Not a medical professional, but I think I can answer this one (someone corrects me if I'm wrong) Under your tongue, there's veins and the mucous membrane over them is not impermeable, molecules can get into your bloodstream this way instead of undergoing pretty much the same process but in the digestive system.

I've always thought that hallucinogenics have similar psychological benefits as EMDR, allowing people to reprocess things from a different perspective. Considering that our bodies have endogenous hallucinogens (and their receptors) it seems logical that this is a pro-survival mechanism. (And yes, I am a fan of evolutionary neuropsychology)

1:20 Don't ask me why I know all of this, but I believe what you're referring to is a "Rigor Erectus" or "Death Erection". A phenomenon observed since antiquity most commonly in those killed by hanging. In short-drop hanging, the blocked carotids cause an increase in pressure on the cerebellum. And in long-drop, your Cervical Spine is severed rapidly. Cerebellar pressure and Acute Cervical Spinal Transection are the most commonly observed causes of post-mortem priapism. Naturally, no one knew either of those things in true detail until the modern era, which led to the less elegant, albeit still technically correct, association of choking with sexual pleasure.

@@cjbk-unlimited Our social/political culture has divided along the lines of compassion vs. responsibility. You need both in balance to have a decent society but we’re polarized into two camps that only emphasize one at the expense of the other. And we have no ability to consider that the other side may have a point. To make matters worse we’ve decided that each of those values thrives only when promoted by the state. So we can supposedly only have compassion or responsibility by robbing taxpayers to run government assistance or enforcement programs. All of those programs actually make things worse. But if you say so, the compassion zealots will say you’re heartless and the responsibility zealots will say you’re a lawless rebel. The media loves this division because it makes them money and the politicians love it because they can fundraise and get more votes by demonizing their opponents. We need to start seeing that we’re being played and stop going along with it. Stop assuming that just because someone cares about compassion or responsibility that they’re monsters who hate humanity. Stop believing in government to fix what’s wrong. They couldn’t if they tried. Stop paying attention to the media. They’re there to make money off your outrage and fear.

I went cold turkey in 1987 for 7 years and am happy to say resisted the temptation when it presented itself. I felt that I finally had it under control, and in 1994, I decided to be sexually active again, but it slowly grew back into an addiction again until 2019. The only thing stopping me this time was the Covid epidemic. I am not sure what will happen now in 2023. I am 68 now, so maybe my age will be the thing to put it under control. Sexual addiction is real. Especially when sexual encounters are so easily available. Although I had a friend willing to pay 10s of thousands for the experience of multi-girl sex encounters.
