As far as I understand the situation: merab got scammed into going to usa. Somebody told him they knew a great gym that would get him in the ufc when in actuality it was a boxing mcgym. He had to fight boxing when his background was sambo and judo. Then he found out that 10 fights that he had before didn’t even count. So he gave up and just worked construction and stopped working out. Then he accidentally met longo who just found out he lives close to his gym and he invited him. Merab was just a guy who didn’t speak english got scammed and gave up on his career. He feels like longo, cera, aljo and the guys are the only reason he’s here now and didn’t give up on him when even he gave up. So he feels like he owes everything to them. Another thing, aljo told merab to call out for a title fight after yan win but merab refused. Aljo was gonna move up before OMalley fight but merab told him to get that money fight. Even after this loss merab was the first guy to say it was an early stoppages aljo deserves a rematch and if they don’t give it to him only then he will fight OMalley. Now my own opinion. I could understand everything up to now. But now 2 things really bother me: 1. Merab thinking he will get a title fight sitting out. 2. I understand merab has been the one encouraging aljo to stay at bantamweight and get that money fight. You were willing to move up but he convinced to stay and get that fight, he put his career on a second place and told you to do what was better for yours. He has been a great friend. I think it’s your turn to do the convincing aljo. Same way he encouraged you to do what was good for you now do the same for him.

Then he went on to talk about how he set himself up for life and took care of his mom with all the money he has made out of the belt. I'm from a small country too (Bulgaria) and I can tell you us mfs in countries like these want nothing more than to have someone represent us and put us on the map. The fact that Bulgaria even had a ranked ufc fighter was like some sort of giant success for us. I tried to explain this concept to my friends in the states but they do not understand. In Eastern Europe, A sense of loyalty to your family to your neighbor to your friend is very real and means much. I knew this was going to happen before the fight. I thought Aljo would lose but I knew he wouldn't go to 145. I knew he was going to stay at 135 and screw over his 'friend' Merab. Aljo isn't stupid. He knows in his heart and he said as much after the loss that he doesn't belong at 145. Aljo is maybe a top 5 fighter at 145. I don't see how he would beat Ortega, Yair, Max, or Volk.
