In this video I show you guys how easy it is to perform a coolant flush on your M156 powered 63! While some models may have slight differences, the overall process is the same.
SIDE NOTE: You can also purchase Zerex coolant at O'Reilly Auto Parts stores in the US which makes it pretty convenient
Zerex G48 Blue Coolant (premixed): amzn.to/3hrFPJ3
Zerex G40 Red/Purple Coolant (premixed): amzn.to/2V0XKyP
MB 325.0 Blue Coolant (concentrate): amzn.to/3y7at18
MB 325.5 Red/Purple Coolant (concentrate): www.fcpeuro.com/products/merc...
Buy distilled water at Target! (if there's one around) Less than a dollar per gallon there!

There is a drain plug on each side of the engine block. Coolant ratio gives different levels of corrosion protection.
@ryleehaglund1954
@ryleehaglund1954 2 жыл бұрын
That's what I was wondering too. If that was premixed coolant I feel like the ratio would be off with all the water in the block

M156 block drain plugs aren't very easily accessible if at all on some models, this is the preferred method for most. I am not concerned with corrosion as I change my coolant much more frequently than the MB interval, and its distilled water not mineral water.

I recommend using original MB coolant. It’s about the same price as aftermarket. Very helpful video.

MB no longer makes the blue coolant...you might be able to find remaining stock of the original MB blue coolant, otherwise the Zerex G48 is the same spec.

Zerex G48 50/50 mix jug $13.99 on sale at NAPA all the time. $20.99 for the concentrate regular price. I dont bother with any water, the 50/50 is cheap enough and says it contains deionized water, I just flush with it then final fill.

Hi , i have a question please , i have C63 Amg w204 , before 3 weeks I’ve replaced engine coolant radiator , now the temperature is normal between 90-94C max , but my fear is that the coolant hoses are strong , i don’t know if this is normal . Can someone explain me please because i really love that c63 thanks.

This is what I do: open the bottom valve and open the expansion bottle cap, start the engine and stick a hose with running water into the expansion bottle flowing at about the same rate than what it is going out from below. TURN ON hot air at maximum rate. Let it sit like that watching temperature and liquid level at exp bottle. Once the water starts going out clean from below stop the car, flush everything, and put the fresh new coolant. I use concentrate MB coolant, that way as I know how much water is still in the circuit, I can do the proper mixing.

My only concern with that is the risk of tap/hose water not making its way out of the block, wouldn't want to risk that staying in the engine creating mineral deposits. I'm sure its a negligible amount but that would still bother me haha. Otherwise that seems like a pretty straightforward method, maybe I'll try it if I can find a container big enough to hold all the fluid coming out of the car. Thanks for the comment!

@@SamAbraham I asked many years ago at the BMW dealer, when i had a BMW 535d and started doing this, and they said they use tap water to mix with their concentrate coolant. They also said the additives and agents in the coolant are there precisely to neutralise any possible adverse effect caused by any kind of low quality water around the globe. I use distilled water anyway in the final mix 😅

@@Romerco77 Interesting, good to know! I know i have very hard water in my area, and all my faucets in my house have some nice deposits on them so I wouldn't want to deal with that haha, so interesting to hear.

Thanks for your video! One question: isn't it recommended to replace the thermostat when we change the engine coolant?
@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham 3 жыл бұрын
Don't really see why you'd need to unless you're having temperature related issues, or if a serpentine belt snapped and damaged it! Maybe a good idea on cars with over 100k miles on the original thermostat.

Hi, thank you for this tutorial. So please correct me if I'm wrong: first you drain the old fluid as much as it drains by itself, then you add a distilled water, run the engine a bit, then drain again and add distilled water again, then run the engine and repeat it few times till the water is more or less clear, right? I guess flushing with Zerex would be too much coz you would need like 5-6 gallons of Zerex. I only wonder how much water is in the system compared to the new Zerex 50/50 mix?

great question! This is how you turn a 50/50 mix into a 20/80 Summer mix 👍

Very helpful video but what are your thoughts on using a vacuum tool to ensure no air is trapped in the system?

If you have one then I don't see how it could hurt, but certainly not necessary

Hi brother I am French, and I watch your videos on the M156. I have one too, and today with this toturial I have to drain the coolant. When the radiator valve was opened I took out about 4L (maybe 5 maximum ...) is that normal?
@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that should be fine, depends how the car is positioned. The more you can get out the better

Hey for a new radiotr what brand should I buy is there a difference also can I use any blue coolant
@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham 2 жыл бұрын
I'd stick to what has the MB approval, I just use Zerex G48 cuz its easy to get. As for radiator brand, I usually go with Mahle/Behr or Nissens for my cars. They are typically the OE supplier

If you have to add so much water to flush out the old coolant, why don’t you have to do the same with putting in the new coolant? I’d be worried the 50/50 mix would be diluted.
@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham 3 жыл бұрын
I personally don't mind if its more dilute than 50/50 as it has no effect on my temps for my climate and driving style, but yes if you wanted to be perfect then you'd need to do that. I cared more about flushing the old coolant out in this case as I was switching coolant types.

Is that coolant the G-48 good for a 7series 745i e65 older model? Or the zerex G-05 better. I heard the 48 is better but idk???
@SamAbraham
@SamAbraham Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what the coolant specs are for the N62 V8 in your 745, but if it helps I use G48 in both my E92 335i and E39 530i. Wouldn't be surprised if its the same
