HI @jembo1959 That is unbelievably kind of you to take the time to find the video again so that you can comment! Much appreciated, as I love to hear feedback and of course, likes and comments help my channel! 👍😀 I had this issue too btw, I know it's a pain but if you log onto your telly, I know it's slow and a bit of a pain but it does remember you (at least mine does, so you shouldn't have to keep logging on). Thanks, Phil

Thank you for this video. I recently became a Benz owner, I have a CLA 250 Sports Coupe (AMG package) and love it BUT I did acquire it used, which isn't a big deal. It's in really good condition and I noticed the breaks needed to be replaced. Well tonight coming home I had heard a slight rubbing on the front driver side. Brake shield is loose, so I'll have to take it apart and look at it. Thanks for the heads up though, I always like to see what's behind everything before jumping in.

Hi, this is important info, I just got 4 new tires on a used 2013 c300 and not one mechanic informed me of mine. I am a semi- DIYer and discovered my OEM brake shield plates had rusted & crumbled into pieces when touched. the jagged edges(the Silent TEETH) had not ;yet, sliced through the ESP lne. Inexpensive replacements can save $$$$ in the future. There should be more vlogs with covers like - BEWARE DANGER :Rotten Brake Plates . kudos to you for sharing.

@@ReviveMyRide Just a quick question. I was looking to get some a mini torque wrench and large torque wrench. I see you provided links. very nice. But they did not look like the make you used. Has Amazon changed your links?
@ReviveMyRide2 жыл бұрын
@@mAnc_MtTmAnc_MtT That's a really good question! Over time Amazon changes its stock, so the exact tools I used are no longer available and the links stop working. I check them from time to time and if they have changed I go through the process again as if I'm going to buy another for myself (read all of the reviews, weigh up against cost and quality etc). I don't just link to any old tools! Torque wrenches aren't used very often by the average DIY guy, so I looked for the least expensive torque wrenches that get good reviews. When I'm choosing spanners / wrenches that I'm using everyday, I pay a little more for them! Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil

Thanks. That's very clear. You make it look so easy. I'm very nervous about snapping bolts on my very rusty 99 clk though. Any top tips?
@ReviveMyRide4 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the positive feedback, glad you enjoyed the video! I have a few ideas to avoid snapping the bolts: 1) If you can afford the time, spray each of the bolts with penetrating oil and leave them, then do it again. The more times you do this before actually starting to loosen the bolts the better. 2) As per the video, putting a socket in place and then tapping them really does help, it also ensures the socket is seated really well and hence, you are less likely to round off the bolt head. 3) Shocking a bolt with hammer action using an Impact driver (manual one amzn.to/3ikMBQV ) or electric / pneumatic one set on a low setting) really does free them off and is less likely to strip the head off than a continuous torque, such as when using a breaker bar 4) If the bolt isn't near anything sensitive (rubber seals nearby, brake fluid, fuel line etc), then apply a little bit of heat to the bolt. I only tried this for the first time about a year ago and was surprised how well it worked. The bolt doesn't have to be anywhere near red hot, just aim a plumbers torch at it for about 3mins and then give it a try. Hope this helps! Cheers, Phil

Good job !! So changing the wheel bearing is as easy as that ?? I thought id need to press it into the hub using a vice etc ?? Ive looked online and see there is a inner and outer bearing, so does the inner need pressed in and out??
@ReviveMyRide2 жыл бұрын
Hi Arnie, no, the purpose of removing part of the hub was to be able to get the new dust shield on (without cutting it) behind it. So, I didn’t need to change the bearing. 👍
@arnietwo112 жыл бұрын
@@ReviveMyRide yes but im asking about if/ when i change the bearing, does it need pressed, is it an easy job ?
@ReviveMyRide2 жыл бұрын
@@arnietwo11 sorry! Ok, I haven’t done one on this car but yes, my guess would be that it needs to be pressed. You might get away with a vice but if it doesn’t work, you’re kinda stuck…

Excellent video and lots of great tips. Well done. One question, do you think I can do it myself on a E270 which got SBS brakes. Somewhere I read the SBS brake system is to be deactivated using the Mercedes software before working on it as otherwise the brake will lose its calibration and could also cause injury as the system will get activated even if the car is off. Your comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
@ReviveMyRide2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you kind comment about the video! 👍 I'll be completely honest that I had never heard of that system before, so I had to research it! There are two schools of thoughts on it by the looks of it: 1 - Follow a procedure that includes unplugging the pump and disconnect the battery before work and you should be fine. 2 - Only have work done around the braking system by Mercedes or a respected Indie who has a DAS machine or equivalent. Might be worth you getting quotes for the work and then you can make an informed decision. This forum post about disarming the system, may be helpful! mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/343887-changing-pads-sbs-braking.html If it was me, I would disable the system and do the work and then take the risk that I may need to send the car in for a reset but it depends on personal preference. Cheers, Phil

I've seen people cutting the dust shield so that they don't need to mess with the bearing. Is that possible with the front dust shield as well?
@ReviveMyRide2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I imagine you could cut the front ones and I considered doing that but I couldn’t see where to cut that would then allow me to bolt it on (in two halves) and give it the rigidity that it needs. Hence, I went ahead with the method in the video. Also, It’s been a while since I’ve done it but it think the front dust shields have a “boss” in the middle that is really difficult to cut on the old one when on the car. Hope that helps! Phil

@ReviveMyRide2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, not possible. The dust shield has a solid centre boss that fits behind the hub (which needs to be removed as per the video). It’s not too bad a job as long as you are prepared and have the tools you require etc. Allow 1/2 day. Thanks, Phil
