Mercedes CLK 350 Brake Job

2008 Mercedes CLK 350 front and rear brake job. I replaced the front and rear brake pads and rotors on this CLK 350. They were wore down to the sensor on one of the brake sets, so he decided to do both front and rear at the same time. You also get a little surprise visit from the tire fairy in this video as well. His rear tires were toast and he needs some wheel bearings as well.

Hmmm, I just opened the brake caliper to clean it up and make sure the outside one wasn't binding. Big mess. LOL

@operationoverhaul the fluid actually looks good. It was just making a mess since it was leaking all over while I tried to put it back together. I was able to compress the piston back in, so it isn't stuck. It started out stiff, and then as I pushed it in, it smoothed out.

I wish my rotor would come off that easy. LOL

I'm guessing you live in a rust climate lol. Lately I have been working on some northern cars that are bad.

​@operationoverhaul I'm actually in California. I recently bought this car because I like the one I got for my wife so much. The previous owners didn't take care of it as good as the previous owners of my wife's car. There is some corrosion on the wheels. These wheels were a bit difficult to remove. When I changed the tires on my wife's car, the wheel came right off. Maybe penetrating fluid soaking on there a while will work. I'll have to try again today and see if it comes off. Maybe the owner before the guy I bought it from lives in a rust belt area for a bit. There really isn't rust, just aluminum corrosion. Maybe he drove through water. The chrome wheels have corrosion bubbling from under the chrome and the drivers side of the engine had a lot of white aluminum type corrosion on the valve cover, intake and mounts on the front of the engine. I sprayed WD40 on all that stuff and tried to wipe it all off. I'm taking the wire wheel to these wheel mount areas. Hopefully I can get the rotors off and get all that cleaned up too. It looks like the rear brake is not moving freely, as one pad is way thinner than the other. I need to clean the calipers up.

I was using my dead blow hammer, which is rubber with sand in it. Today, I used the regular metal mallot. That worked. LOL Looking at the spots of the pads on the rotor, I believe this car sat for some time.

@@shark70007000 I feel like a car that sits for a long time is just as bad as a rusted out car as it will seize up just as easy.

@operationoverhaul As I was finishing up on the driver's side, I realized the wheel bearing is bad. I looked up how to change it and it's a big headache. They guy who sold it to me probably knew that it was going out. Now, there are more parts to order, and I have to remove everything again now. Every control arm, brakes, and then some. I thought I heard a wheel bearing at one point while driving it home. Then I forgot about it. When I got the wheel on and turned it, I heard a rumble. I noticed it when I was turning the center part that the rotor mounts on. This job will be a headache.
