Mercedes G580 Electric OFF ROAD TEST - Better Than Gasoline?

The all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology embodies a distinctive blend of heritage and cutting-edge innovation. Featuring a rugged ladder frame design, selectable LOW RANGE off-road gear reduction, and independent front suspension coupled with a solid rear axle, it combines traditional toughness with progressive technology.
Integrated into the sturdy ladder frame, the 116-kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery ensures a low center of gravity while being safeguarded from water and dirt intrusion by a torsion-resistant casing. Underbody protection, crafted from a smart blend of materials including carbon, shields the battery from potential damage.
Powered by four independently controlled electric motors situated near the wheels, the all-new electric G-Class generates a combined output of 579 hp and 859 lb-ft of torque. Virtual differential locks via torque vectoring enhance off-road capabilities, while innovative features such as G-TURN, G-STEERING, and intelligent off-road crawl function elevate the driving experience.
The G-ROAR sound experience delivers a distinctive driving sound unique to the G-Class, along with immersive "aura" and dynamic "event" sounds. Enhancements to aerodynamics and interior aeroacoustics include a slightly raised hood, new A-pillar trim, roof strip spoiler lip, and flared rear wheel arches with "air curtains."
Digital innovations abound with a redesigned off-road control center, new OFFROAD COCKPIT, and "transparent hood" function for an immersive digital off-road experience. Standard features include the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system with a 12.3-inch driver display and central multimedia display equipped with touch control.
Advanced safety and assistance systems provide additional support to drivers, ensuring a secure and confident driving experience. Exclusive to the U.S. market for the 2025 model year, the electric G-Class is offered in the EDITION ONE special edition, boasting expanded standard equipment and distinctive design elements.
