Come back to this video, the first time since it came out in 2013, at the time when I had mine on order for early 2014; having now owned one of these cars for the last 7 years put 140k miles on it and now I've just sold it for the new GLE, it's been thoroughly an amazing car to lug a whole lot of stuff in whenever wherever you want. The fuel economy is absolutely amazing, I actually once did 1200 miles on one tank of diesel, I genuinely think that if this wasn't my only car I would've done double the number of miles in it because it will most likely do it with ease. The only downside to ownership was the servicing bill, being 4 times the price of my other cars. Apart from all of that, I would strongly recommend you go and buy a used with the right history if you can because as far as family cars go this is up there, stick a private reg on it and you're sorted. this summer my friend took his gl for a real off road and it did good we where on our 35" car and it was much faster but the gl did not dissipoint him :)

The biggest thing I learned about Mercedes is not to take yours to the dealership. I have a 2015 GL 550 with 45k miles on the clock. The dealer wanted 1400 for the transmission service. A local transmission shop did the same service for 379. They used OEM parts. Shop around.

Range Rover better off road? In a recent review done in Australia which was covered a trip of about a week across some of Australia's harshest terrain, the 'full' Range Rover's rear shock absorbers failed . While I do agree, however, Mercedes is on the other end of the dependability spectrum these days. They've been in the top five (#3 this year) for the last 4-5 years. Range rover has been in the bottom 4 constantly.

Apparently Mercedes-Benz GL models has a problem with the GPS navigation system, it shows that you're on the highway when you're on the service road or you're on the service road when you're on the highway, and Mercedes USA is telling us it's normal because all GLs are doing it and that makes it OK, so don't buy that GPS navigation option. We created a You Tube videos just to prove that it's not normal that your navigation system telling you to turn on the street when you're on the highway. We test drove a brand new 2017 GLS today and it did a same thing.
