In this video we are showing you how to do an Oil Change on Mercedes W163 ML430 ML320 or ML500.
The oil Capacity for the ML320 and ML430 is 8.5qts or 8.0 liters.
We recommend adding 8qts and check it and maybe add 0.5 quarts if it needs it because if you overfill it you will damage the catalytic converters and the Oxygen Sensors.
Make sure that you use Full Synthetic Oil and it meets the Mercedes Requirements.
Good quality oil filter is needed as well because poor filters can clock the oil passages and cause engine failure (something that we have seen at the shop).
This procedure should work on the v6 and v8 models gas engine.

World Mechanics what do you do if the pan bolt is stuck and won’t move

You can actually remove the drain bolt without lifting the truck, it is easily reachable. Also the original Mercedes Oil filter is made by Mann, Mann-Filter HU718/5X , which has two black stripes that is used to let you know when the oil filter is completely screwed into the filter cap. Torque filter cap to 25 Nm (it is listed on the cap).

what about the fifth o-ring in the cap/spear assembly? Usually you get all the o rings but no one uses the fifth one in the cap. How do you do that without breaking the filter spear?

On w163 Mercedes code for oil is MB229.3/MB229.5. Mobil 1 0W-40 is listed as approved oil. Not sure about 10w-40.

Don I have a 2000 ML 320 it reads like that in mines blink hi oil. The dealership said it doesn’t have any problems just change the oil on time and keep a regular check on it. Reset button must be faulty.

13mm socket to remove oil drain plug, fill with 8 quarts engine oil, wait 60 seconds, check oil level, if level is low, add 0.5 quart then recheck oil level again.

Yes, W163 is the Mercedes code that refers to this body style. ML430 is the version of the W163 with the 4.3 V8. There’s also ML500 with 5.0 V8, etc. They’re all W163.

That's what I did, but I didn't know there was a sump drain plug! It's probably quicker to remove the sump plug because the vacuum evacuator takes quite a long time. I can't help wondering how much crud builds up in the bottom of the sump over time if it has only ever been drained using the evac
