My daughter (5) loves it. She says the "schwarze mann" is kinda like oogie boogie and since I don't have her scared of oogie (he usually only eats bad children) she's loving the song so much. ❤ it's her favorite
@michaelmiller69242 жыл бұрын
Just some remarks: The several times mentioned "Schwarze Mann" ("black man") is known as a child fright figure in the German-speaking area ("Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann" = Who does fear the black man). Depending on the region and time, it was understood to mean different beings: a dark shadowy figure or a man dressed in black. As a metaphor, the "bogeyman" reached a "peak" as personalization of evil, savagery, and the unknown in the course of colonization, and in the process also acquired a racist connotation. In this context, I find the consumption of those sweets (German so-called "negro kisses") at the end during the end credits very interesting, which work through this "black man" symbolism. Also the colors usage is interesting (Black/White/Red representing the Nazi-color Spectrum). I also found it interesting at the end of the credits that when the TV was destroyed, the color came back into the picture. Further, I noticed that the pie-like plots seen from above correspond to the "political symbol" at the lectern where the singer, wearing a straitjacket, gives his speech. After these borders & plots collapse during the wild shoot-out, the politician, unleashed by the straitjacket to spread his propaganda/fear. Cheering on the cheerleaders is the equivalent of pitching an idea/product and the dancers are slammed with money to sell the bricks and guns to the landowners. This Clip has many layers and can be interpreted in many directions. I see there is a statement on xenophobia and populism/media.

I think that red colour is representing fear. Look for those characters eating the red meal. It might be a metaphor for politicians feasting at people's fear. Till is in straightjacket and as insane man speaks from podium to cameras. He is giving people the impulse to fear. Media creates fear.
@haraldmax96852 жыл бұрын
The song or the video have it all. Starting from a social environment where education already acts with the means of fear, the media, which indoctrinate people with means of generating fears, can steer and split in any direction so that the clients can control them better. The seducers/politicians...... who, after the preparatory work of the media, as persons of identification, determine the direction in which the fears triggered are discharged and bring in the harvest for their clients, unless they happen to be at the top of the food chain themselves. You can see where this usually leads and at the end it is shown what happens if you cut one of the strings on which you are guided......... Compressing something like that in the short time of a song is awesome.

I have been trying to explain why I like Rammstein so much and now you, Domenica, found the right words for me: they feed all my needs in music. Thank you! 🖤 And once again I will recommend "Ich tu dir weh" live from Medison Squere Garden for the next reaction. Or "Sonne" (live or official video, both good) which was the ending of "Deutschland", as you mentioned. I love that song so much and it was one of the first songs I heard from Rammstein when they released "Mutter" album in 2001, so it has a special place in my heart, along with "Mutter" song (my no.1 forever) which I hope you'll check too, sometimes in the future. It is one of those slower Rammstein songs (like "Zeit" and "Ohne Dich"), which are really, really something special. Sorry for the long comment! 🙈

So happy to see you reciewing one of my fabourite Rammstein videos! ♥️I love how much you get involved into interpreteting these videos, especially that you're doing it really well - with passion and charm! This song is - just like you said - a huge comment on the society, where everyone is poisoned with fear since the earliest years. We are being warned from the nonexistant "black man", "boogey man" or however it is called - just like you told, every nation has someone to scare kids! I love the way they showed how people evolved from peaceful suburban dads to paranoic madmen, watching their door with fingers on the trigger! And the last scene, where destroying the media / cutting away from it brings the colours back to your life 😃 I think it is time when you are ready to get deeper into Rammstein's rabbit hole. Some people here recommend you Wiener Blut and Weiss Fleisch - these both are really heavy and you need to prepare well and read the back story on those. So is the "Mein Teil" - you should see the live show of it (the newer the better!) which is amazing, but the backstory is horrifying! I have something else for you: "Mein Herz Brennt". Amazing song with really mind-blowing video, and there is something special about it: there are two offivial videos for that! You should do the both versions in a single reaction, you will love the contrast between them! First one is official music video, available here with Wnglish subtitles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bn_SmamMgJKEm9U Second one is official Piano version - again, here with English subtitles: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/h56VnXV9q8eAoMk

Several dozen reactions, all reactionaries are shocked once again, but now not only by Diana's voice, but also by a talent that can create not cheap one-time music, but hits for all time. Rammstein is pure art. Lindemann one of the greatest poet (german Lyriker) in germany of our time IMO. Sadly, many critics dont understand real lyric, even they are germans. This is also due to their own projection. This is how art should be! ;) PS: their bombastic live-shows are nothing else than modern operas - certainly with intellectual demands

there is so much great stuff from them it's hard to know where to start. In many cases, the official video is just as worthwhile as the song performed live. In 2 cases there are even songs with videos from fans that should be heard (Dalai Lama & Spring). But Live at Madison Square Garden would be a good choice to start the live experience f.ex. - Rammlied - ich tu dir weh - Engel Greetings from germany

Thanks for listening to another Rammstein piece. I try to give an explanation/my interpretation of the song/video. The two phrases that are repeated multiple times throughout the song "Alle haben Angst vorm schwarzen Mann." and "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann?" mean "Everyone is afraid of the Boogeyman." and "Who is afraid of the Boogeyman?" "Boogeyman" is the translation/English version of "schwarzer Mann" in that context. It is an evil entity that's been used to scare kids who don't behave. I assume it's similar to the Romanian "Bau-Bau" which Andrei mentioned. The phrase "Who is afraid of the Boogeyman?" is also part of a kids game that's similar to playing tag. The literal translation of "schwarzer Mann" is "black man" but it's originally not about skin color or race. Schwarz (black) refers to something dark and sinister. But it could have a double meaning so that "Boogeyman" and "black man" are the same, meaning people are afraid of different/foreign countries, cultures and peoples. My interpretation of the video is that the Boogeyman is the media and politicians themselves or he is a creation of them. They use whatever is topical and form it into a Boogeyman for the people. Media (TV, computer) is creating and spreading the fear and the politicians/government (cheerleaders) fuel that fear and are cheering it on while seemingly providing the solution or cure against the fear. Providing the putative safety. They're giving isolation (bricks), violence/protection (guns) and surveillance (cameras) to the people and are selling it as "safety". In the end the people are consumed and controlled by their fear which eventually destroys them. And the figures playing the instruments might represent lobbyism. They're wired and the wires go from their mouths over their heads back to the speaker's desk and stretcher where the crazed man is. The figures (lobbyists) are telling the crazed man (politician) what to say which is then broadcasted by the media into people's minds via TV/computer. At the end Till (the lead singer) is destroying the TV, breaking free of the influence of the media and politicians. Calmness and bliss (color) return to their lives. That scene could also refer to the saying "ignorance is bliss", because they don't want to see people of other countries (the mother and her child) suffering therefore he is destroying the TV.

There are several things, that will often happen in Rammstein songs, videos and stage performances. For one there is the thought/question of what is typically german. Then there are often references to cultural things, like popular quotes (mostly not transparent for nongerman people). Since they have been active for so many years, they also do references to their own songs. One idea, that often comes up in their videos, is that they use images, that refer to figures of speech (like the sands of time in "Zeit"), here represented by the ground falling from underneath their feet and the earth swallowing them, the (literal) cheerleading for walls and weapons. Other things of note is the use of color and especially the glowing red, which symbolises the madness and the way it is transferred, eventually they literally eat it up. In the end he destroys the tv and the color comes back to their life. (again a sort of pun - everything is not black and white any more)

This year we have been on 2 concerts and nearly every evening we are looking Rammstein videos, reactions and concerts at home. Angst has something to do how media can influence you. You asked in two reactions about "easy/funny" videos. To find something without deep meaning is not realy easy. "Pussy" is easy and funny, but you cant show it on youtube. "Du riechst so gut" is easy and one of there early days with an little surprise whome they get for playing the part of the lady. In the end we have to say "you make our day". We love to see your reactions it is a pleasure for us.

At the end when they sit on the couch, they eat a kind of small chocolate-covered cake filled with foamy sugar, in Germany it was called, before people started to think about racism, Mohrenkopf or Negerkuss. And both of these are translated, not nice (for me as a child that was only a nice sweet thing with a strange name), but i think they want to reach, that people change their minds. Also because of refugees, that we should not be feared of them instead of helping people that ran away, because there was no other chance. I think they want to tell us, dont be afraid of everything foreign. Because of the piano ending, the song is called sonne, but in the video it sounds a bit more Rammstainian :) as at the end of Deutschland

This song is basically showing the German equivalent of the boogeyman. In other words, it's a fictional entity that German parents or more specifically, according to the first verse, fathers use to scare their children into behaving as instructed even when daddy is not around to watch them and how we end up doing is developing the practice of guarding ourselves against threats that aren't really out there, this may result in some people being afraid of strangers. This fear can even result in something like group violence or even warfare. Nevertheless, excellent reaction and keep it up, which I know you guys will continue to do so. Rock on! 🎸🤘

Funny story from my childhhood. "Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann?" (Who is afraid of the Boogeyman?) is the name of a child´s play here in germany. When i was a child and we discussed what we wanna play, always someone said let`s play "Wer hat Angst vorm Schwarzen Mann?". One time we decided to play it, but we couldn`t, because noone knew how play it. And i still don`t know today! Always loved Rammstein since the beginning, when we heard the first song "Rammstein" in the mid nineties. It was heavy, dark, banal, bizarre but also funny. I would recommend some really early stuff like "Du riechst so gut"-the official video from 98. It gives a feeling on how they approach their videos and how they developed over time. The official video of "Sonne", also great example for that. And finally "Mein Herz brennt" live, official video or the piano version, all great.

For me it' s about how we all where manipulated through the media to have unnecessary fears. BTW new subscriber here.

I see some hard irony in there. In western world, at least, politicians, their brethren from mass propagan...sorry...media and lobbyists who own both of them are all about telling you to fear the flu, the far right, the conspiracy theories and the Russians; while also being affirmative towards third world immigration, blm and war in Ukraine (don't forget, it's Boris Johnson who intervened and urged Ukrainian govt not to arrange a deal with Russia at Istanbul where everything was already set for a peaceful resolution). Still, most of the counterthought (in most cases, shoddily made in order to strawman its own positions into nebulousities - like anti-immigration movements always having a bit of a neo-nazi tone etc) is made by the same elites, because it's easier to establish control and domination over divided people. Y'know, 'divide et impera', as ancient Romans used to say, because these main dividing issues of the current year are, in fact, irrelevant for most of the people who are spoonfed that bs. It's all to divert the attention from more important issues, like inflation, abnormally monopolized markets, and more laws and decrees which curtail everyone's freedoms and rights more and more with government control increasing in an alarmingly Orwellian manner.

Yes, that is it ... they want to provoke you to use your brain, and that's why they rarely give hints or even explanations about what they meant with their songs and videos. I don't know if I remember it correctly but Till once explained that they WANT their songs to bring out whatever your emotion and interpretations feels like, so that will be a different result for different people - same with "Zeit" ... a lot of people tends to be sad for that idea of running and unrepeatable time, while other people explained about some happy and content feeling after watching it. Simple said: That's art! It may come out differently for you with elder songs, and withing the well known and often asked elder songs, there are many that bring up really controversal topics. With that aproach to know they want you to provoke to THINK about it, it's something different, and people who don't know theam and explain they may be sexistic, harsh, glorifying violence or whatever will do them really wrong! Thank you for your reactions - I really love seeing you and listening to your dialogues and different feelings and points to find out! Thank you a lot - I enjoyed :D

Hi, very happy that you react to my 2 favourite bands Rammstein and Sabaton. There are songs that will maybe too much for some, for ex: Wiener Blut (very dark but true story), Pussy and Buck dich (very explicit), Puppe and Heirate mich (dark lyrics). There are also the solo projects from the singer (Lindemann, which is even more provocative) and the guitarist (Emigrate, which is more focussed on good rockmusic) but both are also great. If you will, defenitly check out more live performances and also the lesser known songs (Donaukinder, Spring, Dalai Lama, Hallelujah, ... I think that these will impress both of you even more). The concersts are on - the videos another (greatful one) - the meaning sometimes another one: Hard to understand for foreigners they are not deep involved into German history and also local stories. But finally everybody over the world know´s that songs. Some side information for you: Du hasst mich (you hate me) / Du hast mich gefragt (You was asking me) : sounds in German language very similar - that´s the trick of the song Mein Teil : backside story is a case of cannibalism Rammstein: Sounds harder as Ramstein - is a US-military air base with a horrific accident due an airshow with lot of burned/death visitors YES, Rammstein are no Nazies : LINKS-2,3,4 Mutter: Song against surrogacy (from my interpretion) ... There are all stories behind every song. OK, they are playing with German language and pronounciation and using "stron" wordes / terms and methaphers. I guess it would take many sessions with you together to explain everything. I had a nice evening with you on that channel. Wish you all the best. She really compared his perfromance to the most dificult part in Opera switching between talking and singing and keep up the energy while talking, she was blown away how easy Till was able to switch never ever dropping an inch of energy in the transfer.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJq0Z36ch7yCgMk

Another great reaction, thank you. You are right with that you have to be a bit more an adult to really understand Rammstein. Maybe the younger generation is more focused on the music and someone like me (59 years) is more interesting in the lyrics and meanings. You may have a look/hear on "Donaukinder"! Have fun through your Rammstein journey ☺

You did so many different moods of Rammstein. Fearful, serious, hard, deep, now do something funny: The video to "Dicke Titten".

Thanks for your great video! As a German, I can tell you that my compatriots have paranoid fears of viruses. For some, this slides into fascism.

Hey how’s going. I think you’d definitely like reaction to the warning with their messages in their songs and telling in their music hard-hitting rock.

Domenica is right when she suggested the song to be about paranoia. Indoctrinated paranoia in this case from childhood on.

I.Love.your.reacts.to Rammstein.🥰 Because of you understand the deeper meanings..(not at all but who can? May just Till😉) if you like try "Mann gegen Mann" and the Cooparation with Zaz "Le Jardin des larmes" again suprised by Till's voice -en France- in french-🤩😍😍
the Black Man and the boogey man are similar in history. Rammstein plays here with the german reaction in 2015 when a lot of refugees came. It was a media and society play with unreal fears of black young men coming to grab the girls, while in reality we tried to border Europe with new Walls and fences... the TV destroyed brought color back but the mom and doughter are sitting still outside the border - in fear

It's a shame I can't give this comment any more than one thumbs up! I love the Rammstein doesn't shy away from bringing things that society would rather not highlight, into the spotlight!

Another epic video clip and - besides ZEIT - one of my favorites on their new album. And by the way: The translation is wrong. „Schwarze Mann“ translates to „the boogie man“ and not literally to black man. 👍🤷🏻♂️🤘
