I'm in tears... I've re-entered my Merlin phase, and UGH.. I just miss them. Merlin had to go through so much, and it's just heartbreaking. It's not only Arthur's death which is the saddest part for me, it's the fact that Merlin had the weight of an entire destiny on his shoulders, as well as the destiny of many others (Morgana, Arthur, Merlin..), and he had to live with the fact that he ultimately failed. He had to live with the fact that he failed to complete his destiny. He had to live for centuries knowing that Arthur's death was inadvertently CAUSED by him. I love the angst, and learned to love the ending (despite how much the ending hurts)... And I think if the fans got the ideal "happy ending", we wouldn't understand just how lucky we were. I think the true ending of the show allows us to actually appreciate what could've been (and break our hearts all over again). I know I'm late, but seriously.. this is an amazing video and it inspired me to write this entire paragraph, so thank you!

Every time I think about the fact that Merlin didn't want to let Arthur go, in every way, it always makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry. I think it's so perfect the way you put "I can take so much" while he's watching Will, Freya, and Balinor die, and then put "'Til I've had enough" while he's watching Arthur die. He could handle losing his loved ones as long as Arthur was safe. I read somewhere that Merlin couldn't ever get closure when it came to Arthur's death because of the Great Dragon telling him that Arthur would arise. It had been at least 1000 years from the time Arthur died to the very last clip showing Merlin in modern times. He was able to get over Will's, Freya's, and Balinor's deaths but he could never get over Arthur's.
