Mermaze Mermaidz Riviera Mermaid Doll - Heavy Metal in the Ocean?

Riveria is my favorite from the Mermaze line, but I feel that compared to Rainbow High, these dolls are very overpriced for what they come with. The lack of articulation in the tail and inability to sit is a big turnoff to me. And with the hair, I have heard nothing but horror stories about Riveria's hair either falling out or having to be fixed. Personally, I find Mermaze Mermaids very disapointing for an MGA doll and I will be saving my money for Shadow High.

I don't care what anyone says I love these dolls Knowing MGA they listen to fans and I'm sure they will make improvements in series 2. I don't think people realize how much it costs to make different intricut tails and molds for each mermaid. I'm biased because I'm a huge mermaid fan. I have faith these dolls will get better with time. Plus inflation probably has a part in why these dolls are pricey

Riviera's face is magnificent. I don't mind that they're permanently mermaids with those styles however I really wish they had the ability to sit. I'm with you that I don't think that we needed the color change. I'd have rather that MGA had spent their budget on a knee joint and heft to the tail rather than the different tail molds and the color change.

People are SO critical over these dolls but at the end of the day, they’re super unique and conceptual and are the highest quality mermaid dolls out there. The designs and uniqueness itself make it worth the price imo

I am thinking that they might change the packaging to encase the whole doll in the box. The pose is great but for those inbox collectors, who wants to dust that?

I really wish the tail had some articulation in what was the knee area and that the torso was jointed so they could properly sit up. They're pretty and I do like some of the designs - and will probably end up with Harmonique when I can find a non wonky one in person - but for $32 I do want more from MGAE because they're already giving us more elsewhere.

Riviera and Harmonique are the two that I definitely want. Possibly Jordie, as well. Speaking of Jordie, she’s the one that changes color with both warm and cold water. Her fin changes in one and the tail changes in the other.

I have a few problems with this doll line. Don't get me wrong, I love how they look, I have the first wave and I love them! But, geez..so many issues quality wise. First off, Riviera had her hair falling out in big chunks. It was terrifying how much hair was falling out, and I've never had a doll in any line have huge chunks of hair fall out as Riviera did. Her hair is still like the size of the entire doll though full of secrets, so I can't say she's balding now due to it, but it seems to be a common problem from reviews. Kishiko also has what seems to be mohair which I've never seen in a doll line before. I can see why they'd use it, but I'm not sure how well it'd hold up being played with or in the bath. ALSO THE BOXES OMG, they are so hard to open!! I get why it's so hard due to theft, but dang it's just kind of almost unnecessarily difficult. That weird thread that is in-between the hips and tail is so hard to get out. I feel like the line was rushed, possibly to steal the mermaid doll market, and I love mermaids so I of course love these, and their faces are beautiful...but there are so many issues that just make the price range not even worth it. I luckily bought them on sale, but even then I have trouble seeing how they're worth the big price tag.

If Dee Snider had a mermaid sister… (ha! Sister…) I know her hair is a little problematic but I LOVE her! She’s so ‘80’s hard rock/metal! And, yeah, I have issues with the lack of tail articulation, but it’s a mermaid. It’s a tribute to heavy metal! Two of my most favorite things ever!! I am rushing to Amazon to get her!! Will I put her in water? Probably not. Will I put her with all my other mermaids and probably favor her? Most likely! I do hope they change the boxes and the articulation but I really do love her!

I bought Kishiko once 1 of my Walmart’s had a display so I could see all 5. $33.84 though was way overpriced considering the tail has no articulation and not much accessories like a boring plastic purse, I do like Kishiko’s earrings & necklace (as well as jacket & top) but still for the price we should get more. Not sure if I’ll collect anymore of these maybe if I see a major sale/clearance/price reduction I definitely want Shadow High Heather over these and series 4 Rainbow High I have a feeling I may end up buying all 6 👍👍👍 kishiko stands well but I heard some of these don’t like yours (Riviera) & I’ve seen struggles with Shenelle too. Not sure on Harmonique but I know Harmonique the hair is not rooted well and I’m not sure how well Jordie stands. The color change looks really cool on Riveria but the hair looks like an absolute nightmare to deal with 🤦🏻‍♀️🤗. I really like Shenelle’s & Kishiko’s color changes I tend to like cold over warm water cause I like to stick them in the freezer so I can photograph it.

The dolls are $44.97 in Canada Walmart....and even more at ToysrUs .I was going to buy one but ,I think I'll wait for series 2.

You called out the one thing I did as well. We all love a mermaid fantasy, but I would have loved for the tails to come off or to have legs that you can switch out or something! The fashion, the details and the face molds are lovely but I am bored with the lack of versatility.

Those curls can be a bit relaxed with applying conditioner and rising out under running hot water while combing with a large tooth comb. Then, cut off excessive length. Doesn’t take long to reach a pleasant curl.

That hair stuck on the bracelet gave me massive flashbacks of my childhood. My hair is the main reason I don't wear jewelry, specially earrings. It's like it just swallows them. I don't know. Having to deal with that kind of hair it's pretty normal to me now, but I can understand other people being kind of freaked out with it. Honestly, it's quite funny to me.

A lot of people seem to have a problem with the hair on this one. Something about this line either feels rushed or that they didn't have the budget to do everything they planned and made compromises. They nailed the faces though, so pretty.

The packaging is a total disaster. I feel like they didn't put too much thought into this line... So many flaws. Her jacket doesn't lay right, her earrings are too big, the excessive hair, no knee articulation, too small eyes, color change only on one side and no stand 😶

I'm shocked you didn't wear your beach wave wig. I really love your hair too and the doll I think there should have been more a try me type packaging instead where you could pull a cord and make the tail move and it wouldn't break on the shelf or chip paint. This package is cool but that's like asking for the tail to come loose from kids playing with it while still in the box in stores. Also makes shipping difficult cuz stacked the tail might interlock with another item or doll.

I love her design but I wish the hair was more water friendly (from what I’ve seen on reviews) and more articulated tails, as well as including a doll stand. I like that these dolls are full mermaids 🧜‍♀️ so I don’t need legs but I wish they had articulated bodies like the ones that MonsterHigh gave thier mermaids for Great Scareior Reef.

That box design is going to result in some bored person (probably an adult) going through and snapping the fins off the tails of every single doll in the aisle. I've seen it happen way too often when part of a toy is exposed. Bored people HAVE to try and destroy it. (Or steal it.) I wish they had a midpoint joint in their tails. It just feels too stiff otherwise. These feel like they're geared towards collectors (that hair is going to be ruined once kids get ahold of it) but the color changed feature implies they're made to play with . . . I can't figure out who these are FOR, and from the sound of it, neither could MGA. I like the overall style, but I just doesn't feel like it was completely thought through. Also, $33 feels like too much for these dolls. They feel more like $25-$27 dolls, but maybe that's just me. I just have a feeling this is going to be one of those doll lines that doesn't last long, which is sad because they're really pretty, but they also just feel like they don't know who their target audience is.

The hair is really impractical for a doll. If you give that to a kid it's going to become a mess instantly, just a matted ball of mess after one brush. I don't know, I'm just not a fan of these dolls. I really want to love them but I just can't.

While they look great, they have limited play because their tails dont change to legs and thats a big part of mermaid lore. Kinda defeats the purpose :/ what they could of done is have the tail detatch from the pelvis area and kids could attach the legs by squeezing the upper thighs together to click them in place and pull them apart when they wanna change back (or a button on one of the thighs) that way they could have a bit more play

Love these dolls love the quality is amazing ! I am not trying to ruin anything for anyone not trying to bring any down just calling mga out for the age it's marketing these to for environmental reasons have to be real here the ages 4 and up is mga stupid with that amount of accessories is a 4 year old is not going to remove all the accessories and clothes before putting it the water adding more plastic to the ocean and I lost my barbie mermaids tail in lake Michigan when was 7 and I would put 12 and up because that is the age that you start to care about keeping the dolls nice and would prevent more plastic in ocean A 4 and up should have less actual clothes accessories and more color change and painted on clothes and for a mermaid doll these dolls are awesome but not for 4 and up maybe 12 and up and collectors is the best market for these I love lake Michigan and want any more plastic to get washed out in the lake Especially after seeing what I did on lake hearon shore a lot of dead sea gulls years ago and through the bones of one was a doll hair brush And these are nice dolls and will get nasty after they are in the water with 4 and up mold will happen eventually but 12 and up and collectors will read the instructions and keep nice and mold free and accessories and clothes on land away from any wildlife that would eat it !

Got Kishiko today and had the same problem with the tie and had to cut it down as low as possible. I have zero clue how you’re actually supposed to do it, but at least it isn’t visible. Makes me feel better to know my favorite doll reviewer had the same problem 😅
