To be fair most manga are "rough drafts" because the author is writing weekly and discovering their own story as they go and since they can't go back and edit things to fit where the story is going now.
@metallsnubben

Though funnily enough that's kind of the thing with One Piece, that Oda loved Dragon Ball and wanted to do something like that but with more of a plan from the start and overarching narrative (DB being very literally made up as he went along, with no plans for it to get anywhere near that long) Of course a LOTTT of stuff was added along the way to OP too, just that it's more sort of "ballooning in the middle" as opposed to indefinitely expanding forwards so to speak. It's like he knows stuff he's _eventually_ gonna get to, but then he can't help himself from taking every side track that appears to its full conclusion
@nichescenes
@nichescenes 11 ай бұрын
Manga artist can redact their last draft. The reason its rare is due to them drawing several chapters ahead and just low balling the drawings or using helpers when they get loss of ideas. Oda padds his story with running or bleach adds huge drawings of simple yet good characters and that fills time for them when they need to research. They can also take days off. One punch man is notorious for when they had a cool action part and were looking like they would do a discussion for a finale that's unheard of mostly in action series and they said F that and got inspired and did one of the coolest fights in the story...for some, some thought it was over the top but your reading one punch man lol. oda also has editors and they just like everything he does as a veteran so he needs to switch often. kinda like his fans lol they just take it all in stride. Other editors are known to try read the room too much and make fast pacing and lose the audience.

@@nichescenes Oh yeah I did read that there can be (small) changes from the Jump version of a chapter to what shows up in a volume, like drawing on a forgotten mustache in a panel or what have you
@nichescenes
@nichescenes 11 ай бұрын
@@metallsnubben Oh yeah good point forgot that too. Yeah, It's why the volumes are the main canon...i guess week to week jump is the drafts. Entire pages can be reworked in the volumes. It's why I think people are too critical week to week as we're getting literally 4 to 6 minutes of a well-paced seasonal series in new information and claiming it's mid or peak lol. But anyone using the word mid to review a series is usually not too in-depth with why they dislike something.

Comparing to Daffy Duck is a compliment. I cannot think of any higher praise to offer a character. Daffy Duck is the greatest character created by a writer since the death of Shakespeare. Hemingway actually killed himself after watching a Daffy Duck cartoon because he realized the greatest character of all time had already been done, and no artist could ever achieve anything greater. The Mistborn trilogy has two named female characters besides the main character. One of them exists mostly to be a romantic interest to one of the male side characters, and the other could've been a marvelous foil and antagonist, if she hadn't died the second time we met her. And we didn't even know it was her until after she died.

This was such great fun! I haven't read many of those books, but really enjoyed the roasts. Joining in the defense of Well of Ascension, I also loved it (not sure it was my favorite of era one, but I remember many lovely scenes with Sazed, and just not feeling bored despite the slow pace), and loved Elend's noble character. I think a lot of modern stories tend to not give as much importance to being noble, which saddens me, and makes Elend that much more precious. That being said, t'was still a good roast.

@silverx_1848 : As someone who doesn't read books, I'll give a 1-star review on reading as a whole: Reading is a hobby enjoyed only by two groups of people: those who are in or want to relive the glory days of when they were deemed to be intelligent because they read Eragon and Heart of Darkness "for fun", and not a school assignment, eventually succumbing to the growing pressures of an ever-changing intellectual climate that required they invest more and more time, money, and energy into reading the latest Stephen King or Joe Abercrombie dissertation only to realize that their TBR has manifested into an unkillable beast of their own design, plaguing them until they, like many novels before them, simply cease to be. Blotted from the world like an errant mark on the page of an author's undulating pen. Oh, that and Booktubers.

I just finished the book. The opening is horror - in all sincerity, if you were watching this at the movies, you'd be screaming at the Darlings to get out of that house and leaving the theatre saying those idiots deserved to have their children kidnapped. The titular character is a psychopath. The Lost Boys justifiably live in terror of him lest he snap and kill them like a dangerous dog. I don't know what madness drove Wendy to let him take her daughter at the end of the book save whatever charismatic mind control he exerts. He's an Eldritch Horror cast in the form of a small boy.

That first one is so legit. Peter Pan. Normalized kidnapping of children. Well...not wrong. A character named Locke. What? True but at least it was unique. Ps. Don't know what book it's referring to. Oh no. Lord of The Rings...but yes a ton of descriptions but honestly it felt more immersive despite being in The Shire for so long.

I think the "lack of death in one piece" roast was poorly made, because it applies this logic to Luffy of all characters, who gets into deadly situations and survives by a miracle all the time. Which was specifically addressed in the story via a character of Ivankov, "the miracle maker". The point of that character is literally to embody the idea that "Miracles come to those who never give up". Luffy is living proof of that idea, and it's the point of the story, that as long as you keep fighting there is a chance. The bad part that Merphy dislikes was not the lack of death, but the fake out deaths specifically, which is an entirely different point from what was made in that comment
