To me, this has been one of your most helpful videos so far! One problem with using the official Kibbe list for reference, is that most celebrities don't really look like the average person on the street (stylists, personal trainers, shapewear, plastic surgery...). If you try to wrap your head around the Kibbe system using only thin celebrities, it can be pretty tricky to use that as a base for typing regular people. You giving examples who look more like the average person makes it so much easier to see the difference, thank you so much for that! And I second the comments below requesting more typing vidoes, like tv shows, that would be great! Basic information about the Kibbe types can be found anywhere online, but someone really breaking down and typing people the way you do is pretty rare :)

This is SO HELPFUL! I really like that you've chosen girls who are not size 00, but at the same time are not "true" plus sizes, because that's exactly where I fit in and it's rare to see a video with examples that look like me ("medium sized"?). I've always been so confused between Dramatic Classic and Soft Classic, but in this video it's clear that what I thought was a "softness" factor is actually just my weight - compared to a thin celebrity I do look more "rounded", but here I can see how compared to a girl with a similar weight I'm much more "yang", especially because of my jawline and broad, angular shoulders (which look EXACTLY like the DC girl on the left!). Thank you, Merriam!

Seeing a less thin representation of soft natural was so helpful! One of the women on the left (I believe in a black bikini) really looked like me at a higher weight when I thought I was too soft to be anything other than R/TR, esp bc most women in my family are R/TR and very petite/short. I'm tall for my family and have some broad "gravitas" to my stature compared to them, regardless of my measurable height. I'm only 5'4 and didn't ever see myself as "muscular," so it was hard to see the SN in me but now I do!

Are you short are taller than 5ft 5 inches? If you are petite you are most likely a Gamine over Romantic. Romantics are very rarely petite so some categories you can disqualify yourself based on height alone. Also check out Aly Art on YT she is very detailed on this topic but her examples tend to be slim.

@@dabarefootbombshell I believe in vertical line over height so don't use that as a guideline. The clothes trying option is good...as long as you understand the lines and get the clothes right! Maybe keep watching vids until the penny drops. Seems like you have a problem u understanding your bones. Are your shoulders broad and the shoulders strong looking? And your shoulders narrow and sharp. Are your hands and feet ling and bony? Delicate and feminine? Where do you put on weight? As you study more these things will suede of come easy to see.

Wow. I doubted for ages if I was a SG or a SN but seeing that my body looks an awful lot like the lady on the left in the SN part and that my face has a similar bone structure as the lady on the right (also in the SN part) , sealed the deal for me, finally! I'm an SN! At first, I though I was too short (5'3) and that my arms and legs were too long to be a SN. But now, it makes sense why SG clothes would look horrible on me, but as soon as I'd pair a loose, knitted pullover with a v-neck with skinny jeans, I looked great! It just felt right in a way :). @@anouschkabernice4050 as far as I know, Naturals are a very modern type type of looks(as a group), and those who look like models, in many cases are Naturals. The say, pure type representatives are pretty rare to find, and thus, there are a lot of Soft Naturals and Flamboyant Naturals(a lot of supermodels, ever, were of this type of looks). Naturals have a fresh and inviting essence. - "Girl-next-door", in a good way. - Often look good with balayages, beachy waves, with natural hairstyles, not precisely styled hair, if that makes sense in English. Pastel makeup, natural, not precisely shaped brows. Look good in boho style. And Coachella vibe, if that makes sense:) It is their "face"(metaphorically) with that all. Better choice can be ethnic jewerly (though it varies, how massive, between the Natural group), maybe stuff like feather... something of natural materials- wooden, African style, untouched stone imitations (I recollect one outstanding designer for the last clause:) especially on rings), I guess, just handmade things. For this reason, they are the type "close to nature". Actually, things that have been in urban fashion stores, magazines in our age have been for Naturals, Soft Naturals probably most often

This really is more of an indulgence Merriam, but I’m so fascinated by twins within the Kibbe framework! I was looking at Tia & Tamera Mowry whom I’ve been a fan of for decades now, and realized that although they are identical, they might have different Kibbe body types! I would like a video on distinguishing between the different gamine types too. I am very confused as to what type I am. I do have some yang in my face (large nose, oblong face), but I do have waist definition and hips as well. One of those seems to be an fg trait and one an sg. It sounds like fg is the miscellaneous category for everybody that doesn't fit in the other categories. To me there just doesn't seem to be a unifying factor as with the other types. How can Tina Turner and Audrey Hepburn both be fgs? Either way, this video was very insightful. Thank you for taking the time to be inclusive!

Hey, I thought that too! I heard about it in some other video too, and I couldn't figure it out. All sources, I'm pretty sure, say - yang body structure, skeleton, facial bones, but like yin facial flesh, that happen to look seemingly SD features, in cases of some! Kibbie wrote, as far as I remember, - more yang in the skeleton or body structure, but yin in hight(probably the vertical line). I guess, FGs Gamines not rarely happen to be tall. But Merriam says - more yin in the bone structure - skeleton body bones, facial bones - but yang flesh on them? And that with all that it altogether creates yang body type and young facial features?

Always learning something off of your work. Are you also in the strictly kibbe group in facebook? It seems as if the focus of Davids system is really more about the Yin Yang balance of the individuals and not so much relying on the features, also the test and the recommendations for the lines are Not that important anymore. Its rather intuitive and enhances self awarenes( in a good sense) and self love. The excercises are very helpful and its a very self and/or life changing experience. Im really thrilled by the insights I have accomplished there- thats why I seem to sound like advertising 😂 but no worries- there are no hidden costs for joining the group. Learning about ones own bodyshape and how fabrics drape around it, getting behind self limiting prejudices, ( after discovering having them in the first placd) finding what you love about your body and enhancing that and so much more . I See so much unique and awesome beautie now in every type. The types still do exist, but the system has changed with the Time that went by. To get ( in the sense of understanding) the kibbe types as a line system, you are doing a very good Job, though . You have a very good eye, as I also recognize every time you're doing a video about the artistic license System. Keep up your good work. (Maybe a Disclaimer that David Kibbe hast a different approach, since he has improved since he wrote the book, would be cool, I think you did that a few times, but I'm not sure. ) However stay as lovely and informing, as you are. 😊

You mention how yang and yin comes from different parts of the body for different types (flesh vs bones) but I find I don't completely fit that for my body shape. My body is completely yin while my face is more soft/gamine (I have yang lips, nose and cheekbones, with everything else yin). This combines to TR overall (I look horrible in D lines, not that great in G lines, but harmonious in R lines). I recall you mentioning how your face sometimes can not match your body in one of your videos, hence how I came to a definite conclusion about my body shape. So my question is how common is it for people to follow the yin/yang rules for each body shape? I've seen many exceptions in real life so I wonder how accurate it is and whether or not we should stick to that definition for each body shape

Hello! If I got your comment right, first of all, of course, not all people know about Kibbie, not all people are into fashion, are into style to this extent... Many people naturally feel the tendency towards some type and dress accordingly, even when they don't know about style theories.. I think, also, many types dress as soft naturals. because these clothes, has been the style of our time, for years. I honestly think that the original soft naturals feel their style somehow one of the best, initially. It just happened so... It was in magazines, in fashion stores..... I grew up with this fashion (I'm not a soft natural) Many TRs dress as soft gamines or soft naturals. I would see soft naturals take something from gamines. Generally, I think, yes, people take ideas from close types to them, or some trends and ideas coming from some type are big in society. Merriam talked quite a bit about style actualization. She would include some celebrity pics in the videos, dressed as another type, and I really loved it for some people, it was harmonious. Basically, yes, I think one should orient by face, what type face looks like. Kibbie would about say it. And just what types's style look best on you. Let's imagine, we think of a person - they have a soft dramatic face, but more dramatic or romantic body. I think they should go soft dramatic:) It is as far as I know, based on what I saw

I really appreciate you doing a video on plus-sized Kibbe types (hope you'll do more on how to dress them!), but having read Kibbe's book and attended his "Kibbe University" I need to point out some mistakes. I didn't watch the whole video because I was only interested in certain types, or ID's as Kibbe calls them now. But noticed you saying that SN's have long arms when they have short arms in his system. FG's are the ones with long arms and large hands on a petite frame. You got Gamine's correct that they have long arms and short hands, but he doesn't acknowledge they exist anymore. I'm with you, they do exist! I am Gamine with long arms and short hands and was confused for the longest time about it because I thought I had to be either FG or SG since he'd eliminated G's. Soft Gamines have short arms and short hands. FG's have more yang bones and SG's have more yin bones. I'm not saying the models you chose as examples are wrong, just some of the commentary.

I believed for a long time that I was a SG due to my soft curves in body, my bones not creating any angles and my soft facial features. Everything about me is rounded, BUT I'm only 4'10"ft. If I disregard the height criteria usually listed for ROMANTIC kibbe type. If I look at people's examples of plus sized petite Romantics or just any petite Romantics vs. the same plus sized petite/petite SG, I'm now convinced that I'm a Romantic and I can see in old photos from my teens, that I've always gravitated towards styles for Romantics. Not that styles for SG look awful on me, I just don't shine in them. I'm not going to throw my wardrobe and all of my jewelry out (though I may have to dig after some of my Romantic style jewelry from the 1990s) but I'm slowly going to phase more Romantic styles back into my wardrobe.

But I even enjoy watching your videos on types that I have ruled out for myself and your colour analysis videos which are amazing! I can’t figure out if I am Flamboyant Gamine or Soft Natural which don’t really seem like types that have much in common but I’ve seen others waffle between the two. I definitely have a mixture of yin and yang with slightly more A and B answers than E answers. I’ll figure it out one day.

Thank you for your supportive comment!! That is a strange pair to be confused between! I've also seen a lot of confusion between SD and FN. Where SN has yin flesh, FG has yang flesh. Imagine Audrey Hepburn (FG) looks very different from Selena Gomez (SN). I wonder if you're getting caught up on your shoulders, or one other feature? Any type can have wide shoulders for example, because it's just one answer! (Of course that's just an example, sorry if I assumed incorrectly!!)

This is helpful , looking forward to the next one . I have such a mix at least it seems to be a mix . Facial features yin leaning and I gain weight in my face but small mouth ( not luscious) average eyes in size and deep set. 5’2 shoulders on the sloped side. Shorter arms and legs. Hands and feet short but wide. I don’t gain weight in my arms and legs and not much in the hip or bustline but through the middle. Still despite gaining weight in the middle my waistline isn’t straight. But gaining weight at all makes me feel awkward like the soft Gamine description but I know if I am. I can relate to a few types.
@unneighborlyarcades63565 жыл бұрын
Something that I would like clarification over is how you differentiate between SG and FG. You state that a SG has more yang in the bones and more yin in the flesh (I assume body and face) and that a FG has more yin in the bones and more yang in the flesh and facial features”. I have no issues with your description of SG, as I’ve read their “bone structure to be yang-dominant” and their “flesh and facial features to be yin-dominant”. However, I’ve read FGs to have “yang-dominant bone structure and flesh and yin-dominant facial features (save the facial bones) and stature”. This seems to contradict your statement that FGs have more yin in the bones. I would greatly appreciate it if you could explain your meaning.

@nanagur1065 жыл бұрын
Hey! I would like to see a video on that too. Honestly, actually, in reality, as far as I know, people do really happen to go in between a few close or relatively close types. And the question is - to determine which type dominates for them, which image. Basically, I think there are some representatives that you can't confuse one with another. - Pastel makeup for naturals, possibly natural brows(whille TRs have them precisely shaped and put a deeper color one them, if they are not blondes), boho style, beachy waves, natural lightened hair. - They can wear very hip "Coachella" look. - It is one of their calling cards. - That's the "style". While they can look not this "stylish" and fresh in all glamorous outfit, hanging sophisticated earrings, for example. And vise versa. A TR may not be able to pull off that hip look. I - a TR-SD - I see things(clothing pieces), and I understand, that they are not glamorous enough, despite how stylish they look just in some way, in general. But there are the exceptions! J Lo looks good with naturals elements, with those J Lo signature beachy waves. Sometimes a person can look a soft natural - a little squarish angels, but they can pull of a TR look pretty well because of the exotic luscious face, little fresh essence - butthey are definitely not a gamine, not a classic

This convinces me even more that my mom is a soft gamine. 110% her body type. *throws height out the window once again* Interesting those how I do kinda look exactly like the soft classics when weight is gained. But I keep looking soft as the weight goes away. The waist just gets smaller!

Merriam, hi I think I maybe a soft gamine or a soft natural according to this. On the kebbe test (which I've taken 3x's) I got 6 B's, 5 A's and E's, equal parts. No C's and 1 D. May I have your opinion please and thank you for your time.

Can you be a soft classic if you are 5'10? I'm a size 10 US so not plus sized but the kibbe body types in other videos seem to only go to like size 4, I'm not sure if I'm a soft natural. Dramatic or classic?❓the woman at 11:03 looks the most close to my body type.

Is there a such type as soft dramatic classic? I’m so confused as to my typing. I’m between 5’7”and 5’8” and people always say I’m tall but I’m an hourglass shaping but not as drastic as before I had my children. 😂 My bust waist hip measurements are 39” 31” 42”. I’m currently 165lbs (ideally want to get down to 150-155lbs). My limbs are long but soft/thicker. My facial features are mix of sharp and round. Prominent angular nose and chin/jawline but fuller lips and fleshy cheeks. Help!

Can you still be a SD if you have all the features but a more angular face and smaller eyes and moderate lips?

Between a dramatic and a natural body type (if overweight), long arms would be leaning more towards dramatic? I see a lot of us calling ourselves SN because we are overweight. I have pictures when I was underweight and it looks dramatic. I see the same for other women on the Kibbe groups.

Guys, who looks better with animal prints? Naturals? What Kibbie body type do you think Katrina Kaif has? Seems very balanced, very very graceful in figure... Height is about 1.68. Looks amazing with animal prints, and natural curls or waves. Looks amazing in upper and bottom clothing pieces of different pattern, if it makes sense. In loose skirts. It seems, looks very good with ethnic accessories. Doesn't look this good without this glamorous vibe to it. Without sequins, rhinestones, shimmery makeup. Like a cross of something natural, classic and a SD. I think she looks underdessed in classic or natural clothes on its own

I think I’m between TR and R. I have some angularity and width in my shoulders but not quite enough to be a soft natural. I’m very short, my head is larger, and I have curve, possibly double curve. I am not pear shaped. look good in small print, and delicate detail but could never pull off soft frilly shoulders things because I feel too bulky. It’s been very confusing. I don’t have the strong sharpness or narrowness of gamines. At most it’s bluntness and some natural lines work on me but for the most part I have the soft shapes. Lately I’ve been thinking there may be some classic, but nothing is so obvious it’s clear to me. Many people say Gamines are the elfin rounded facial structure with sharp bones and some mis matched lengths. Most people say TR is narrow. I am decidedly not narrow, nor is my skeleton sharp and elfish. I have a longer oval face, I’m short and people often comment on how little I am. I may be soft gamine or theatrical romantic by your interpretations.

Not always, they definitely can have short arms and legs, but since they are gamines, they are always a mixture, so anything can be short or long!

If there is much visible elongation and angularity (frame dominance) flamboyant gamine would be more likely, or another type.
@kaidawisteria5 жыл бұрын
kim I'm a Soft Gamine with long arms and legs! I think as long as there's a mixture of A/B and D/E answers, you'd be some type of Gamine.
@Denise-sj3si5 жыл бұрын
I’d love a vid showing how to tell which gamine category you fall into. It’s a bit harder to for me to see which I am, since the gamines are all mixtures. The other body types are a bit more straightforward I feel. Ty for the videos!

I'm a soft gamine with long arms and legs. Even though I'm 5'10" and have length, I've always felt like my body is made up of short and separate segments, if that makes sense. I've always felt great in cropped tops and pants, color blocking, high neckline, waist emphasis, contrasting colors.

I am almost convinced that I'm a flamboyant natural. At least in body, not sure about my face.

Is it possible for me to be a short (5’2) dramatic classic? I am too sharp to be a soft classic despite my height and my larger chest, my bones are very sharp and I have broad shoulders and big hands and feet, however the rest of me is very classic looking. Would this make me soemthing else? Love ur videos!
@merriamstyle5 жыл бұрын
Yes it's definitely possible! Height is only one factor, and actually, it's not even a factor at all, it's only how tall you look, not how tall you actually are that is the 'vertical line' question!
@GreenSnapShot5 жыл бұрын
@@merriamstyle Thank you for the reply! I really love alyart but I do think her videos confuse me a bit personally when she has the sections of her body types videos that says "a romantic WILL NOT be ......." because it means i rule out the answer. Thank you for taking a more "generalised" approach where no two people in the same body type will necessarily look the same, its really opened up my eyes to my body type!
