I showed this video for my university english class about polynesian dance. I go to school in texas, being a local boy and possibly the only polynesian kid in my school, i was so proud of being a polynesian, the whole class was amazed at this video...even though Im samoan and have no idea what their saying I was proud of showing people what hula was really about!

There is a Hawaiian lady in my area that bellydances in addition to being fairly accomplished in her hula. I thought it was a weird mix since the Middle East is SO far from Hawai'i, but lots of the movements are really similar. Bellydancers do a welina movement, but theirs is rapidly successive instead and is used as the main movement instead of an accent like the welina. Oh, and I love how this halau often with exits with a simple "E". It's very feminine and a little mysterious.

I spotted a girl in the 2nd row with what seemed like she had the shortest hair of the halau. Probably means she is a newbie; what an honor that she gets to dance in the 2nd row and perhaps hasn't danced there as long as the others.
