It is actually one of the few Christmas movies I liked to watch over and over. Even when it's not Christmas. The whole jail plot was interesting too. Also, buddy, you missed a detail. Josh not only was arrested for no apparent reason, but he was also not read his Miranda rights either.

Fun Fact: This almost ended up being a very different film. This special originally began development as a film called "Drake & Josh In Manhattan", The film, which was meant to be released in theaters as a final send-off to the TV series, would've involved the two traveling to New York City for one of Drake's concerts, only to be mistaken for two lookalike wanted criminals and falsely arrested. After being released, the two are forced to help an orphanage as part of their parole, only to face off against the lookalike criminals who are trying to rob the same orphanage. It's believed the project never took off due to a lack of theatrical interest and a high budget, causing the film to be scrapped in favor of "Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh". The unused script for "Drake & Josh In Manhattan" was loosely rewritten and reused for the Christmas special.

As funny as this movie might be, the fact that the plot makes almost no sense really drags it down. It's pretty hard to enjoy when the main plot (Drake and Josh have to give a little girl and her foster family the best Christmas ever, or else they go to jail for many years) only happens because the cops stupidly arrest Josh for no reason and don't even tell him why. Also, it seems hard to believe that the judge and Gilbert would be willing to at least let Drake go for trying to break Josh out of prison just because he kept a "Christmas promise (which I've never heard before). For the matter, why exactly would the whole family say this Christmas was the best Christmas ever when Drake and Josh screwed everything up? I'm sure their father would've given them passable Christmases before, "the thought that counts" doesn't matter with all the property damage the woodchipper caused. Most of this plot makes no sense, to say the least.

I totally believe it at first cause you know once you like do that to someone I think it is very messed up but I wouldn’t imagine in 1 million years someone like him would do something like that I mean he did play guilty for it but he was already out of jail like a week later because it turns out the girl was lying the whole entire time so basically she almost ruined his whole entire career all for nothing. It turns out it was she was just crazy and if you don’t know where I heard that from heard it off of KZbin video or like some article or some new station somewhere like two or maybe three years ago after that point when it happened but yeah let’s also add this to the fact that he would never do nothing bad maybe he would’ve done it only because he went to something awful his life and maybe that’s why he did it but come on you gotta get some sympathy for the guy like Dan Schneider, and Brian those were the guys that ruined him and ruin his life and pretty much gave him something messed up during his final days in acting all I say is that Drake deserve a lot more better and I just hope that he is doing OK and hopefully he finally found some help and he’s now clear off of his demons

It's good but not the best. Some characters are regressed (Helen's mean again and Steve's craziness is weirdly timed by being overly two-faced) but not majorly and there are some contradictions like the judge willing to let them fulfill the promise primarily because they had no prior misdeeds on their records (ignoring stuff like endangering the helicopter pilot, hosting a TV event at their home without authorization, injuring Oprah, and multiple counts of property damage). I do think there are some funny scenes like that bait and switch with Josh and his cellmate hitting the pipes on the walls and falsely screaming to scare the other inmates and when they squint at the christmas "tree". It is a fun little project to revisit.

I loved this movie as a kid, and while I think it’s still funny, the plot kind of drags it down for me. The only reason Drake and Josh are on parole and have to give a family the best Christmas ever is because the cops arrest Josh for absolutely no reason and that never gets addressed after the matter. A lot of people don’t like the Theater Thug episode, but at least there everyone had some reason to think Josh was the Theater Thug, even if it was a really stupid reason. But I do like the backstory of the parole officer and how he warms up to Drake and Josh at the end. Still kind of a fun watch though.
