This list of songs is a very distorted image of Polish pop and rock music: 1. This is a list based on the number of views of songs on KZbin - common access to the Internet and KZbin began in Poland in the mid-2000s - songs from before 2005 are songs watched on the basis of nostalgia - 10, 20, 30 years after they were really popular - most of them were known and listened to by all of Poland. 2. After 2005, it was more about current viewing of songs, often KZbin was the main place where fans repeatedly played their favorite songs - because of this, half of the songs after 2005 were not the most popular songs in Poland (I don't know half of these songs), but the most popular among the recipients of Polish KZbin 3. There have always been parallel trends and genres in music, in Poland too. Different people listened to different music - until 1980 Polish rock music had very limited access to the Radio (4 channels) and Television (only two channels), releasing records was also very limited - the song Budka Suflera in list above, is a version recorded after 20 years - in 1975 it did not have a television recording - because rock bands were not invited to television and there are practically no video recordings of rock music from that period apart from a few exceptions (SBB).

Speaking of "Hey" I'm actually surprised that "Moja i twoja nadzieja" isn't the 1997's top. It was sold as a charity single, the proceeds of which were donated to the victims of the catastrophic flood of 1997, so obviously the song was aired literally everywhere and easily topped charts.

My favorite Polish band is Maanam with my favorite female vocalist Kora. Look for their more moody, mysterious works like albums "Nocny Patrol" or "Się Ściemnia". or songs "Lucciola", "Owady podniosły skrzydła do lotu". Lyrics are very deep, mysterious, often touching esoteric, on feminine side. They've been very innovative in 70s and 80s on Polish scene with nice bass solos. Good music ended in 90s IMHO. From that period I like bands "Varius Manx" and "Goja".

Polish version of Pocahontas song is absolutely stunning - it was sang by a girl who took 2nd place in an Eurovision contest once , which is still the best place Poland took so far. What you have there from the 80's barely scratches the surface. There was so much amazing rock and pop in those 10 years. Some bands that bear mention (they do show up in your list, but in later years): Lady Pank, Republika, Maanam, Budka Suflera, Kombi, Perfect, Bajm, TSA and Dzem. World class at the time, and it's still a great listen after 40+ years.

Me and my diehard metalheads, when we were young, you know, chains, leather jackets, long chair, fearless and etc., would love to sing our hearts out (very loudly) that Pokahontaz song in bars, after concerts and in public transportation, lol. I don't know who put this collection together, but since the 2000s the songs presented have nothing to do with music, and even less with real music. We have many other artists who understand their work, look at Obywatel GC, Dawid Podsiadlo, Artur Rojek, Perfekt, I am not mentioning all of them because you already know some of these Polish greats.

@@Vengir yes it can be. I just don't agree that it has to be our ‘best’ music. I am aware that there are a lot of people who listen to the style of disko-polo and the like, but this is nothing that distinguishes us, which distinguishes our most important and best Polish singers and above all the content, which supposedly has always been profound and important for each of us (leaving aside, to some extent, generation Z)

We do not have some Disney songs in polish version but full dubbing with full soundtrack. So actually nobody in Poland knows English version of those songs. Also our translators are so good that many times they give into the context polish jokes which are more connected with our reality and type of humor than American.
@vanillablossom
@vanillablossom 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say nobody knows the original Disney songs, they are just less known and less popular, but at least from the last decade if not longer people do know English versions. And one could even listen to Spanish version of "Let it go", as the native language / 1st language of the songs' creators is Spanish (not sure if the Spanish version isn't actually the original one then) and it was fairly popular, too. With current access to the internet I do believe other Poles are also rewatching videos like "song xy in 20 languages", though I think that's pretty niche thing to watch. While I mostly agree with what you wrote, I think the statement "nobody in Poland knows English versions of these songs" is false, unless you mean Disney songs from before the internet became accessible for many in Poland specifically. But the newer ones, no, sure thing no, people do listen to the English ones, too. As more people use English in their everyday life generally, like you and me today. About the translators, it's more about regular movies / animations, not musicals, and well, Bartosz Wierzbięta who translated Shrek for dubbing did put many puns at situation, politic in Poland back then or Polish culture and apparently it became bigger hit in Poland than expected because of that, he's a legend, but with the time puns at what was current back then sometimes can get sour or feel really old / make the movie feel old instead of timeless, so such strategy can backfire, too.

For some reason most songs you found from the last few years actually belong to the disco-polo genre, which was mostly popular in the nineties. Speaking of the differences, I think in every decade there were many different genres, so the songs don't necessarily reflect the popularity of a specific genre at a specific time. Also, I think some from the older songs you put in here are actually older than the year you've attributed them to (maybe it's because remastered versions came out in those years). My favorite band is Riverside - if you like music that combines progressive, hard and melodic rock, you should give them a chance.

And for an animated movie one of my favourites is the soundtrack to Anastasia “Płynie czas, licze dni” sadly I have not seen a video to it but it is the soundtrack to Anastasia’s “once upon a December”

Wow... I was born in 1974 and I know all of the songs from the period 1974 - 2018. Then - with some exception - I don´t. Sadly, seeing this compilation, I think I know why. One can clearly see the difference if it comes to music complexity, lyrics, voice capacity etc between now and then. Thank you for this clip. It was sweet, nostalgic and touching to see almost ;) all of these songs. I am also proud of polish music especially from the period: 70, 80, 90.

Yeah, actually this whole „skolim” has a big drama that he’s buying views and that’s why it’s most popular song :v and this type of music is called diskopolo. Don’t search it 🗣️🥶

My background is Polish, I was born in Canada. One Polish album from the early 70's that I really enjoyed that my cousin gave me was Nowy Wspanialy Swiat (new wonderful world) by Dwa Plus Jeden. Kiedy rzeką plynie kra, chodź pomaluj mój świat and po jedwabnej stronie (Elzbieta's voice really shows in that song) are my favourites from that album.

1:15 - 1:21 When Anna Jantar recorded this single "Nic nie może przecież wiecznie trwać" (Nothing can last forever), no one could have known that this would be her last album. She died in the 1980 LOT airliner crash in Warsaw. From that time on the title of this last song sounds like a grim prophecy.

The first song.. Anna Jantar. She was returning to Poland on March 14, 1980. She died at approximately 11:15 a.m. near Okęcie Airport in the crash of the Il-62 "Mikołaj Kopernik" aircraft flying from JFK Airport in New York to Warsaw, while approaching for landing.
