The difference between CSOR and JTF2 is that CSOR specializes in Special Warfare, Special Reconnaissance, and Direct Action and JTF2 specializes in Special Reconnaissance, Direct Action, Hostage Rescue, Foreign Internal Defense, Protective Security and many more capabilities.

@@Wolverine1992-z5m They are both special forces CSOR is similarly but different roles trained JTF2 started out as a poorly trained unit 600 man force back during Desert Storm they were originally to be trained for 6 months but was eventually set at 3 weeks this told by friend who was brought in to train them which used to be CAB formerly another group of Paper regiment 2 Sea King helicopters crashed and killed both units due to a sandstorm in Iraq. How best to explain the Canadian Army in comparison to US army is very easy take this example US pilot flies his helicopter to be repaired in Ontario CAF Base the Captain has all these Requisition Forms he asks for the guys that do rotors, hydraulics, electronics, Etc. and asks the Head shop guy and points and tells him that guy right there and asks for the other Mechanics and he is told that is your guy for everything, American Capt. replies we have a guy for all sections of the helicopter and Shop guy says we have only one and not enough bodies to do that so everybody is trained in all aspects he is also even your fueling guy. When this video was made the US is looking to secure a foothold in Africa into this region back then ,some this group were being used to create the Africa-Union Troops, (a project that lacked true support and commitment from US) most of these guys we're seeing are Ecowas troops they failed massively to achieve their goals now we have 2.0 today as at the time it being a US operation like all of their ill-fated ventures end in failure due to corruption in procurement within US military system. We notice that much of the equipment AU troops had was more reliable and durable Soviet-Russian made. France as you can see here are mostly Legionaries which most are of Russian and Eastern European background still no change in make up today. The futile attempt by US then has led to their current failure in securing their foothold against the economic might of China and its astute business operations in training and educating ppl in Africa , an old Quote is you can give man bread fish and wine they are fed for only a day but its better to teach them to fish make bread and wine and they will eat forever, but you can control the man if you feed him.

JTF2 is heavily specialised in counter-insurgency CSOR is heavily specialised in special military operations of any kind CSOR + JTF2 = SAS basically, except that these two individual branches are probably even more heavily specialised into what they do JTF2 doesnt really fight wars and people who like to brag about JTF2 dont like to acknowledge it but CSOR are the guys who go on battlefields JTF2 guys operate more like US Delta but not on the same military level and they are much more comparable to a very secret unit doing clandestine work than an actual military unit doing battlefield fighting

Yes, and this is why it’s called “Joint” task force. Not because it’s always 420, lol, but because they are designed to operate as an adjunct with foreign forces….this is as far as I know, I’m not an expert or anything.

Gotta say these guys are no joke . That being said some of the nicest most humble group of badasses you can be apart of. If you end up getting a tasking being a GD take it! I hear you wont regret it!

Honestly Mert. Good article. The point here almost should be Canadian reportage. W5 and guys like Lloyd Robertson and Mercedes Stephenson are just the best. Trustworthy. A progarm second to none in the world for objectivity and accuracy of reporting. And that other thing. Humanity.

@6:30 When the captain is talking about self-defense, he's talking about defending the helicopter from armoured vehicles, weapons systems, bunkers, etc. Even if you don't take out the gun, those bullets will punch through walls and armour so you can make it too dangerous for anyone to use it. @20:00 The thing that confuses a lot of Westerners about Africa is that many people are more loyal to their tribe or clan than to their country. So the risk here isn't just that the country may change its politics, but that groups of soldiers may find their tribe is no longer allied with national goals. This is why it's so important for the soldiers doing the training to be there eating and sleeping with the Africans. Those guys may not have the same allegiance in 5 years, but they'll remember that the Canadian soldiers were courteous and polite, brought medicine, shop locally.

Excellent story about what our Canadian Special Forces soldiers are involved in. Made me feel very proud of these special forces and proud to be Canadian. They are definitely very special people who risk their lives daily. I’m sure they know how much respect they have from us. If you want to learn what the selection process and training is like then check out Shawn Ryan's channel. He interviewed Dallas Alexander who was a tier one JTF member for over a decade. He broke the world record multiple times in Mosel as a sniper with the longest confirmed kills.

You seem to like canadian military history. Have you ever heard of sir William Stevenson? He was a civillian from Winnipeg who founded camp X and laid much of the ground work for modern spycraft. Truly remarkable story.

The Canadian government is definitely more altruistic than some. But it is still valuable to develop allies in the area - especially on continent like Africa where many countries, including Russia and China are keen to get a foothold. At its very basest form, if you supply a country with all the weapons they need to protect them from their neighbours, you are guaranteed a certain amount of loyalty, since you are also the person who controls the supply of spares, the right ammunition, or the correct software updates.

We’re a nation with a ton of land mass and a small population in comparison. With our geography comes great natural resources. Whether we like it or not, we have a crucial role on the global stage and part of that includes being a neutral nation as best as possible.

@13:05 Yes and no. There needs to be an awareness of what the attitudes and views are, but also a need to contextualize the realities that while those types can be almost anywhere and have bad intentions, letting fear dictate policy is also the perfect way to clam up and complete the cycle of perpetuating those attitudes. More understanding(of why they might hate/fear, and the cultural/philosophical factors that create those conditions), and less just pointing out anything that seems unfamiliar as possible threats.

The training foreign forces thing is always going to be a goodwill building exercise. You can either not help them at all, or help and hope that enough of those you're helping become future friends(and self sufficient enough to act as to stabilize their regions and eventually become a potential ally). Alternatively, you act aggressively and go in every time there's a potential threat and wipe the board(and unless you've gotten all their friends and anyone they have a relationship with over multiple degrees of separation), you'll just create resentment as you're acting as a bully by projecting force whenever you don't like how something is playing out. There's a difference between being able to act vs acting being someone can't stop you. Having that power doesn't make action right without the context.

NATO weapons and multi dimensional capabilities make the risk of the training and capacity building fairly low. Like selling arms internationally, you keep the most capable version for your own country.

JTF2 like Army Delta or Navy Seals. CSOR is like Army Green Beretes. CSOR will also paly a support roll for JTF2. Correct me if im wrong. Delta and Seals kick in doors and shoot you in the face. Green Beretes teach locals how to do the same.

To better understand them, compare them to the USA Rangers (CSOR) and Delta Force (JTF2). It's "common", but not always the case to have CSOR supports JTF2 operations.

No harm in asking questions. They can run background checks on us easily. As long as we have nothing to hide then we have nothing to worry about, unless we are stepping on toes and threatening secrecy.
