Making a living from music isn't easy and sometimes I just don't want to pick up the guitar but I swear, when I see Andy play, I immediately get an urge to pick up my guitar and give it my all, and Andy is the only guitarist that inspires me in this way because everybody knows that practicing and doing drills, exercises and studying sometimes becomes so repetitive that there are moments you don't feel like it but Andy you're like a pick me up, thanks man. They said - oh wait, we've got this Line 6 amp in the studio. I'm like, eek... we can try it out ... and I walk back there, and this Boogie is sitting in a corner with a cover over it. I'm like, you gotta be kidding me. They're like yeah we bought it a few years ago to have as a house amp but no one ever asked about one so we just kept it here. Will that work? Has anyone noticed he switched out his middle cruiser for a strat single coil? I’m trying to figure out why? Like if he just took the neck single coil of a stray and put it in the middle to possibly get that classic single coil sound in addition to the cruiser and the signature dimarzio?
@greekfreak19806 жыл бұрын
Not only did he replaced the Cruiser in the middle,with a proper singlecoil,he also added a mini switch on the guitar. My guess is,the mini-switch is for splitting the humbucker into singlecoil mode and also add more tone combinations,like parallel/series etc. I have a ''Frankenstein'' Partscaster with a similar setup(S.Duncan JB/SSL-1/Coolrails) and the new Ibanez AZ series also have something like this.
@IrfanIbnuAziz6 жыл бұрын
I went to his clinic in Kuala Lumpur in 18/8. He said that he changed that middle pickup. But he didn't like it and he never like to play on the middle position. So, he won't tell us the brand of the pickup because he never endorsed something that he didn't like and didn't play. And also he said that, he might change it back to cruiser.

How did Andy achieve the stutter effect around 2:22 with the 5-way switch? Is the second pot a seperate volume for middle and neck pickup or is the strat middle pickup disconnected from the switch?
@ducas89376 жыл бұрын
guitarelaxed it is possible that he modded it to have a second volume, but I would say it's more likely to be the output volume difference between the singles and the humbucker. With a responsive drive channel/gain stage (soft clipping) the difference between the pickups may be enough to make the sound clean, and then make it seems like a killswitch

Ah man, now I'm torn between this and a Triple Crown. Does Fillmore have MIDI for changing channels with a switcher? I'm guessing not. Can you connect a switcher with a jack to program channel switching? Really like the simplicity of this amp...and the tones, of course! You never fail there Mesa :)
@mesaboogie6 жыл бұрын
Hi JJ - the Fillmore is intentionally VERY simple, so... no MIDI. But you could certainly connect the 1/4" footswitch jack to any 1/4" control jack on a MIDI controller or a 1/4" to MIDI converter device. Thanks for your interest and hope this helps!

Whats wrong with you people! This is a play through, not an amp demo. Mesa has video demos of this amp, look at those and stop your bitching. You can never buy an amp based what it sounds like when Andy plays it. I'll never sound like that no matter what amp I own!
@grisok5 жыл бұрын
This is 100% correct, tone in more in your fingers than it is gear. Andy would sound like Andy through any other rig. That goes for any other player too, including your own tone. Not saying gear isn't important, it is, but less so than practicing and playing.

@cesardmora866 жыл бұрын
how can I get that "distortion"? I mean, it sounds with a lot of gain, but it is somehow "clean". If I use a lot of gain, then it is sloppy, it sounds bad, and if I use lower gain, it looses attack/impact. A middle point does not help for me. I have an Ibanez JS, with an Boss OD-3 and an Blackstar amp, and I'm not conformed with the distorted sound :/ I understand that it is puzzle with the equipment: guitar, effects, amps, hands, technique... but any idea?
@cesardmora866 жыл бұрын
oooook.... I have seen kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHvQqoyhrsapZqM and it is the amp.. thank you MESA Boogie :)
@whocareswins16 жыл бұрын
It maybe worth looking at technique as well. Timmons Eric Johnson etc are adept at keeping the strings not being played quiet with both hands to manage higher levels of gain. Difficult to see without looking very closely though
@acompres5 жыл бұрын
The cleanness of this gain is because of the Gain structure the amp has. It would be challenging to emulate this on a blackstar, they're fizzy and bland compared to these type of amp. You can get pretty close if you stick his signature pedal in front the clean channel of your amp and EQ accordingly. Also, Andy's bridge pickups are veeery clear and like overwound PAF-y, I feel he gets that thickness from EQing his amps mildly dark and substracting some mids, that way you retain note clarity without being an icepick. Hope it helps!
