Amp tryout day! Gotta love the sweet sound of a real amp(sorry for all the Pod, Axe Fx videos lately).
Signal chain:
Ibanez MTM2----Maxon OD808---MarkIV----MB Roadster 2x12----SM57---Apogee One---Logic 9
Song is called "Our Dying World" and is available on Itunes and Amazon. Search for Feared.
Thanks to "sleazy" from Diskantforum for letting me borrow his amp.

This is very cool. i happen to have a mark IV, and never thought it could sound so focused and heavy when double tracked. I just tried your setting, and it sounds awesome for record. You made my day! Oh and I'm digging your songs!

@choirofthedead yes this is how the eq was set for the recording. You have to understand though that a perfect mic'd sound doesn't necessarily sound good in the room. I adjust after what sound I'm getting with the microphone. Thanks dude!

@diaroejoscha right on. The Maxon adds a clean boost of the signal, compressing the sound into the amp. helps to get that last bit of HUMP in the sound.

It's really hard to tell the true tone of the amp when you have it mixed it with all the other stuff. I also wonder what kind of studio processing you have. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Mesa and Mark IV fan.....but sometimes we also need a simple "in the room" video as well as a "studio'd up in the mix" version.
@ottawadrummer
@ottawadrummer 10 жыл бұрын
***** agreed. Even a spider 3 15w sounds brutal in his videos. I think he should line up the top 10 best high gain amps in the same room and play the same basic riff on all of them using a 57, a 121 and 421. That would be a much more unbiased approach.
@alexwright1464
@alexwright1464 9 жыл бұрын
ottawadrummer Look at the video for the raw guitar track for this video, it sounds even better out of the mix IMO.

plus he always uses maxon 808s. I get it that most metal guitarists have some sort of overdrive in front of their amps but sometimes I'd rather just hear the amp, than how this amp sounds in some Feared song
@sqlb3rn
@sqlb3rn 4 жыл бұрын
fuck that, it's so hard to find amp demos in a good mix. ideally have examples of both a full mix and raw tracks but if I can only have one, give me the full mix.
@dewdude2112
@dewdude2112 4 жыл бұрын
@@sqlb3rn welll...we'll have to disagree my foul mouth friend. Sure both would be ideal.....but if you can't tell what would or wouldn't "sit" in your specific mix....a demo is useless.

@ESP4thaWin I thought so too, or if were talking solely based on Ola's video. But then again, The Mark V is pretty tight considering its NOT boosted, whereas this Mark IV is boosted with the Maxon.

@Rebellion0915 It wont. The Mark IV has a LOT of mids. even when totally scooped. Also when adding a boost the lows and the highs will get tamed so you'll get a more balanced tight sound. Also just because it works for a recording situation it doesn't mean it will sound good when playing with a band. If I stood in the rehearsal room with this one with my band mates playing the settings would probably be a bit different.

I know this video has been around for a while, but do you remember if any of the knobs were pulled? Hard to tell from the video. Also, do you remember what settings you had on the back? You are one of the few people I've seen who have actually managed to make the Mark IV sound as aggressive (imo even more juicy , thus better) as the Dual Rectifier. Amazing tone man. I want to ask you though how can you play so loud (Ld Master at 4,5 and output lvl at 2) and not have negative feedback and at the same time not making the mics to clip. I 'd really like to have this question answered. Thanks.

great record, man. have you used a lot of equalization while mixing and mastering? as if I believe the overview of amp settings you have your lead bass on 0 and equalizer bass freq are a little bit lowered. so where did all the low freq came from? mixing eq, mic position, or just outrageous amount of low freq the amp provides?

Hello Fearedse. An important question: I own a Mark IV and my band is going to record our first EP soon. On a few tests we did with SM 57 mics placed in front of a 4x12 cab(Celestion V30s speakers), we saw that the mic "clipped" (ie. too high volume) when we had the following volume settings: Lead Channel Volume set to 2, Master volume set to 2. No booster pedals in front. Your settings were : 5, 2 AND booster. How do we prevent mic clipping? I hope to get an answer soon! Keep up the great work!
