I bet if she did her own rendition of this people would be saying "I liked Ella's version better". Seriously people, she killed this. No she's not Ella, in fact, she's a lot younger. The fact that she's even IN to this genre is amazing in itself. I really hope the people shooting her down are also quick to comment nice things on other videos as well. You are right in that people like to alway compare someone new with another with almost cult status. Ella was brilliant. Nikki is brilliant. That's how I see it. Sometimes I think the bars we set for artists is just ridiculous and often extremely ridiculous and missing the point of art. Nikki's new album is a masterpiece in its own right. I could listen to her scat for hours.

The notes and words may have been right, but I wasn't 'feeling it'. She's been onstage for more than a few years at this point. Her mentors have done her a disservice by not teaching her stage presence and etiquette. I have seen recent videos, also. She still doesn't have the etiquette learned. Yes, unless you are singing without accompaniment, it's good etiquette to say "WE'RE going to do a song for you". When a musician does a solo, either be near them (as in standing at the end of a piano), calling attention to them or move into the shadows and out of their limelight. Thank you.
