Fun fact: Messmer is (at least partially) based on the Mesopotamian deity Ningishzida, known as the “chair bearer of the underworld.” Ningishzida was commonly depicted with snakes protruding from his shoulder, and was symbolically represented in pottery and art by a 2-headed snake coiled into a caduceus pattern.
