We want interaction and new places to share and talk, but all those things get hammered when marketers come in like unwanted tsunami and shove products and services and try to sell you their crap up our noses. Instagram was great without market. They added it, the bots came, the memes came and destroyed it.

Hey Jonny. Some great points here. I think I’d Meta pull it off properly, a text based feed that links to your Instagram account could be really good. The only problem is Meta themselves I think. Lots of people don’t tend to trust them and that’s, in my opinion, what’s pushing people to find other platforms like Vero and Bluesky

I agree with your line of thinking. A centralized location with all of your followers having access to anything that has to do with your brand would be amazing! However, I would be hard pressed to say that you would own anything from insta or any platform. If you get shadowbanned or terminated that may trickle into limited access with your engagement with your audience. Sorry but I have Meta trust issues arising from their decision to go "Pay to Play"

I actually think social media is going to only work if it starts connecting people in real life. The whole social media landscape is so manipulated and overrun by marketers. Chronic isolation among young people now. People thrive in real community, not a simulation of one. Now that more studies are coming out on how digital media halt social and mental development… all bad. I am just not on social media like I used to which is a really good thing.

Cory Doctorow has a term he calls "enshittification"... and my experience is that all these social media apps are currently terminally enshittified. They all slide into you paying for any exposure (even to your actual following).

Meh, they’ll make it extremely fun for the first 2-3 years then introduce ads etc and then introduce community guidelines because they don’t want to lose their ad revenue.. then it’ll become another app that’s been ruined for money. Cba anymore

I like knowing that this is going to result in the decline of both Twitter and Facebook/Instagram one way or another. It's sad how awful most of these social networks are and it won't change until decentralized open sourced options take the main stage. I would never touch another product from the awful company that is Meta.

Instagram and fb loosing steam. I have a good following on Instagram but I’m so over meta-. First to get people to join the bonus reels program and I was part of that and then as soon as they stop it your views drop like a fly and they stop paying you. I always say KZbin is probably the best platform for someone like me. That is a painter. I feel for the photographers big time because when I first logged onto Instagram, it was a photo sharing app but since Zuckerberg took it over, it’s awful. I can’t imagine this would be any better and I can’t stand Twitter.

I agree that this sounds like a very utopian idea. Especially from a company like Meta, I can't imagine them creating something where they don't have major control over it. Like the idea that it could possibly integrate a Twitter feed into their app seems unlikely, but linking to Instagram and Facebook seems believable. I feel like a text based feed could simply be added into Instagram under its own tab, not sure it warrants another app though.
