Second one :) it was a beautiful flash-back conversation: web, farmville, facebook, first iphones. Old days were simple.

Lost in all the app fixation is that web dev is so much better than it was in the 2000's. Internet Explorer and Flash impediments have been remvoed and HTML5/CSS3 and responsive web design is in play. 😊

3:39 LOVE how the browser section goes over the Microsoft paying Apple part and yall didn’t even mention the whole deal was technically to get IE on Mac’s native and that Steve literally launched safari immediately after that deal expired.

Great discussion, but there's a distinction between distribution platforms, like the iPhone, and infrastructure platforms, like AWS or AI. When we build apps on distribution platforms like the iPhone, we're at the mercy of Apple. However, building on infrastructure platforms like AI isn't necessarily high-risk, high-reward. We don't get the distribution boost (unless something like GPT Store takes off), but we're also not at risk of being booted out.

Now I understand why Meta and OpenAI are considering AI hardware: They don't want to give Apple 30% of their revenue. Likewise, Apple are letting OpenAI through the door to offer native capabilities. This will encourage developers to build AI apps on iOS. That way Apple can charge OpenAI billions for distribution, whilst also collecting 30% of revenue from developers. Smart!

Do you think the government or social movements should involve themself with making dominant platforms open platforms?

As the tech landscape evolves, the discussion raises questions about the next battle that might emerge, potentially involving AI and how it could influence the mobile upgrade cycle.

Do you think mobiles will remain the battle grounds or we may see other devices (like smart glasses) becoming mainstream?

So here you are actually incorrect, because you can self host a llama model as a company, you can share the data with your own model. So this way you won’t have to deal with privacy regulations because it is all still on the companys system.

We are on the dawn of the next battle. So weird, if you think about all this platforms OpenAI is not open, Apple is not an 🍎, AI is replaced by other AI Startups. Love it curious to follow up what is next. 😃

Apple will be fine and still will force users to buy new iPhones regardless of the AI play-it deliberately ships iPhones with very small capacity batteries that require daily charging cycles and degrade fast enough for the CPU to start throttling due to not enough joice from the battery withing 2 years. So, users think that their phones are already old and can't bear the load of all the apps. They buy a new iPhone, while in reality, it's just the battery problem-the cheapest component that is deliberately made by Apple to degrade fast.

How about a piece on encrypted attested computing?; i.e. Private Cloud Compute
@tonyhawk1232 ай бұрын
That would be nice. But not much incentive for a company like Meta or Google because why hide personal data on their own servers unless they’re forced to - for their management it would be like putting cash in a piggy bank and throwing the key away. Only Apple has a track record on privacy, but Apple isn’t exactly great for robust cloud services.

Emails, phone calls and SMS are going to get bombarded with over-personalized AI content from YC startups. Thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to put those channels on mute. 😜 I'm sure, though, in 12 months , everyone will be excited about the AI startups working on weeding out the garbage from those channels... And so the arms race will continue.
