Metabo HPT 12" Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw Review (C12RSH2)

Unboxing and testing out the Metabo HPT 12" Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw. Tool number C12RSH2(s). Also discussing some of my reasonings for this purchase and also some of the weaknesses I already have discovered. This is pretty similar in specs to the Dewalt DWS779 and the DWS780 as well as the Hercules Miter saw from Harbor Freight Tools. We will be using this saw for the first time together to check how square the cuts are straight out of the box and to discover if we need to make any adjustments to our miter saw blade.

I just bought the Dewalt DWS799 dual bevel slider and went ahead and bought the contractors stand with the wheels... great set up.... I love it... I actually sold my Metabo HPT single bevel on an Evolution stand to my brother and took that money and went and bought thetDeWalt..... I didn't have any problems with the Metabo saw though... just too good of a deal on the Dewalt...

i just built a miter station for my Hercules since im mainly using it for woodworking and stuff around the house. Also didnt see you mention it in the review, but how accurate is the laser and the bevel ootb? I hear they always need to be adjusted.

I have the Hercules stand and I wouldn't really recommend it. It is a nice stand and is well built. What I didn't think of when I bought it was you can't buy another set of mounts for it. I have a single bevel miter saw and a sliding miter saw. It would be handy to have two separate mounts on both saws so I could use the stand for both. If HF would sell the mounting brackets separately I would change my opinion.

I had a warranty issue on my cordless 10" saw. They replaced it very quick. They shipped me a new saw and emailed me prepaid shipping label and I simply sent my old saw back in the new saws box, attached sent shipping label and off to the races with my new saw. Just got this one last night 5/19/20. I purchased the Hitachi table saw last November and was well pleased with it. I built a set of storage shelves for my shed last week but had to borrow my neighbors miter saw. When I saw this miter saw on sale at Lowes it was a no brainer. Invariably when I would need a miter saw my neighbor who is a carpenter would have his miter saw.

No doubt bro, I bought a dewalt dws779 and I wish I would have bought the hitachi/metabo hpt because I don't have much space in my basement and having to get that 12inch+ clearance for the slide rails really hurts. Even the Makita is zero clearance but they're around $700

I think you made a good choice probably the only thing you will question is the price of 12 inch blades and eaven when you do replace it remember always use a decent brand and look for them when there on sale. There are people out there with miter saws that are years old with little or no maintenance my family has a Dewalt radio arm saw that's at least over 50 years old my dad had it ever since I can remember I'm 61 now and it's still running.

If you put the bevel all the way to the right or left (45°) is it a true 45? I do a lot of 45 Bevel cuts (not 45° miter) and like to just tilt it all the way until it stops. But is it a true 45° when you do that?

This test is only if you want to saw with precision with a miter saw. (test is not for rough work). Tips and Test: Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a vertical line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / HITACHI C12RSH2 / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact / Bosch GCM 8 SDE (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). If you want you can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a clean sharp saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a nice flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick. To this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw. Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-4. Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned vertical in line above the saw blade. The second option is the handle positioned horizontal in line above the saw blade. Step-5. When you measure the vertical angle square of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing. Conclusion: how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing.(don't go for that). P.S. Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner... I liked Hitachi tools and have a few including a smaller 10" jobsite miter saw. Non-sliding. I'm not much of a carpenter and its small footprint works well in my shop. This one is a lot more serious. Pretty nice.

Bot a Bocsh dual Bevel back in 2006 and have used it on many jobs and got a ton of hours on it until It just stopped a few days ago. Probably a bad switch. I had bot this Metabo saw for a backup and have used it on my current job. The only thing so far I dont like is the fact it doesnt slip when you bind a cut. The Bosh has a belt that slips when you bind a cut which has happened more times than I would like to admit. It is a fantastic safety device. The slippage of the belt stops any nasty wood been thrown around. I noticed this Metabo seems to have a direct drive that doesnt slip when a bind happens. Which can be very dangerous.Do you notice that as well?

"Horizontal" is side to side, and "Vertical" is up and down. The Metabo handle is vertical. Most of the rest of the saws have a horizontal handle. My portable miter saw is a DeWalt, so I am used to the horizontal handle. I have just ordered this Metabo saw and haven't received it yet, and I'm wondering how I'll get along with the vertical handle.

they probably just clear them out when they make changes to the saw its weird because they still sell this saw but this week they did drop the new c12rsh3 it has this the shadow line. is it going to be better not sure they also have the 36v vwersion of it also id hope its better then the 10 inch version i love metabos tools but their online customer service sucks terrible

I just purchased this saw also. the only issue i've had so far is that the blade guard makes a rubbing noise and rattles a bit for about the first four inches when making a cut. Has anyone else had any issues with the blade guard not being smooth? I reached out to metabo hpt but they haven't responded yet.

So there is a bumper that evens up (adjusts) with the fence right in the way of the blade even when fully locked in the most distant position from the blade. Does anyone know what this is for or if there’s a way to not make contact with it when attached?

I think it's discontinued because they ran out of Hitachi stock. A lot of their products have been discontinued recently. I purchased a Metabo router and plunger for $80 at Lowes on clearance. I'm getting this saw asap because I'm building a shop in a one car garage bay and the extra foot of room is ideal.

The $299 pricing was meant for the Hitachi version, all the Hitachi branded tools were clearanced out. Some Metabo branded stuff snuck into the sale. I got this saw, but missed the router. The only difference between this model and the one that is replacing it is Metabo is taking the HPT off everything.

You can easily,….easily, connect the saw to a dust collect system. It actually comes with a Blade…. Most do not. The laser does it’s job exactly as it should, ergo “ don’t really need the laser at that point”. And OMG you seriously are complaining possibly have to ship it????!!! And omg, it’s discontinued!!!! Which EVERY company does regularly. Removing the fence to cut on one bevel!! Come on man! This is a great saw. As good as most any Great saw. 15 amp motor. Dual bevel. Quick access to brushes.

Depends what type of stand you are looking for-portable or shop stand. For the shop look at the Dewalt planer stand which will hold your miter saw and works better for shop use. For portable there are several good options including the Metabo.

laser doesn't stay on the work piece because - shadow. you can see that because of where the laser comes out, the rubber deflector will block the laser as the saw is lowered. only problem with the laser for me was it was not perfectly lined up- slight skew to it. my only problem with this saw is the blade was not on the arbor correctly out of the box. first spin up, it shook something fierce. took the blade off, installed it again (properly) and it spun smoothly, beautifully and made beautiful cuts. reason I'm watching today is to see how exactly you're supposed to cut that bumper/support that the blade runs into. i understand the principle (I think), but it just seems odd that they put such a small piece of plastic there that you're supposed to cut through? when i cut through it, it tore a chunk off and threw it somewhere; thankfully not in my eye. another thing to help get better cuts is to adjust your zero-clearance inserts. i see you've got them wide open, as from the factory. i didn't get it for 299, but for 329. however, at 329, it's still 20 bucks cheaper than the comparable dewalt, but the dewalt doesn't have a laser (got it for my wife and she really wanted a laser)

i dont know if anyone know this but there is no adjustment of the indents that you move the saw to the desired angles you cut,,,i just got off the phone with metabo,,you cannot adjust the indents of the saw,,they are preset at the factory,,

I just bought this saw at lowes- after unboxing I was pretty disappointed in the quality of the casting. There are several grinder marks, porosity in the welds etc.. has anyone else noticed this? Reminds me of harbor freight cheapo stuff..

The laser is an alignment tool very rarely do we need alignment well we're cutting it should be aligned placed in position and the alignment, you don't need the laser when you cut it

The way you use this saw is extremely dangerous. cutting short pieces holding by hand? Sliding back and forth? Please learn the proper technique (for a start, please read the manual how to use this saw safely) before you post anything. People are watching and they will assume it is the proper way to use it but you can loose your fingers by doing so. Please do some investigation before you say something about warranty. Lowes is the service center mentioned on metabo page. They will replace your saw if you want to claim the warranty. They call it warranty return and it is easy as it sounds. No expensive shipping required. Testing the cut on a brand new tool? the square you use is not super accurate if you want to check precision. The blade on ALL saws is extremely sharp so of course the cut will be pristine. The real test is to test the saw after few hundred of cuts.
