@@nolram big AAA will still continue to use their custom engines, don't worry. I don't expect Naughty Dog or iDSoftware to see this and go hmm might as well drop our engines we built over the past decade with tens of thousands of man hours and millions of dollars and go with this now. For the rest, there's Unity, Godot is growing too, and all the other small engines you find and can create yourself.

they now support the Blender foundation and gave Blender help to make the work flow between Blender and unreal engine better, so maybe they will also make this Blender friendly in the near future.....

I mean... they didn't give Blender help. They just made their own Blender plugin/addon. Blender had nothing to do with it. Unity already accepted Blender files. Unreal had to integrate Blender, not the other way around.

Not standalone and I'm not sure ever gonna be. They are trying to make the engine video,animation, modelling powerhouse for all kind of pipelines.But current output allows you to edit in Maya . I strongly believe that, they will add more, they ussually do.

Yeah it will be compatible with other 3D softwares. The source files of the MetaHumans will be Maya files. But you can always export it as .fbx or .abc.

It may actually end up as standalone application within Epic Launcher just like Twinmotion. That would make sense and it would allow you to easily integrate with native UE.

I switched from Unity to Unreal not too long ago after getting tired of how incomplete and hollow it is. I can't believe that they still don't have a proper input system finished yet. I've been surprised at how feature-rich Unreal actually is. It has so many built-in systems I didn't even realize. You can tell that UE is built on actual game development.

Unity is 50% of the mobile market. Also for small indie studios and beginners, Unity is the only choice. Also a monopoly is never good

@@yahootube90 The simple reasoning is really that the makers of Unity don't make games. Epic Games actually makes games and they use their engine to make them, so whatever their games need the engine will have, but it's also a double edged sword in that regard because there are a lot of features that a lot of people might not ever have a need for. And it makes for the engine being big and bloated.

Quick tips worth mentioning: 1. To alter the camera speed in Unreal without using the camera slider on the top right you can hold right mouse button pressed and use the mouse wheel to decrease or increase the camera speed 2. To open properties of a folder in explorer just hold ALT and then double click. Of course it's easier to follow without these shortcuts but in case anyone wonders. Many thanks for your constant updates! There are so many things on my radar only because of you, so again thank you.

@Sami Alam This really depends on various factors. What kind of hardware are you running? Have you tried using studio instead of game drivers from Nvidia? (I'm not sure if there is an equivalent for AMD). Have you tried changing the graphic / quality settings in the engine?

@@moodnamoodnai8742 Just check the comments on their "MetaHuman Creator: High-Fidelity Digital Humans Made Easy" video on their KZbin channel, and look for Unreal Engine reply under the comment thread "this plus megascans will be huge for the indies". It's one of the top comments so you shouldn't have to scroll far.

This is why I prefer to make my drawings and 3D models stylized-there is kind of no point in making photorealistic character models when software like this and Reallusion Character Creator 3 can make better, less uncanny-looking humans than I ever could, in a fraction of the time, while the market for stylized, whimsical CGI that could never be made professionally by an AI (e.g. Spider-verse, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania-basically anything from Sony Pictures Animation) seems to demand more experienced and talented artists than ever! That is, of course, not to say you shouldn’t privately practice and understand realistic anatomy so that it makes your stylized character designs more three-dimensional and believable. Nor that you can get a job at the likes of Naughty Dog or Rockstar Games by sending them these auto-generated 3D character models.

Good point, I was trying to understand the master materials of MeetMike of the DigitalHuman project, and using that for rising the materials of my CC3 characters. The stylized feeling of Reallusion gives a more artistic level. Also Headshot and SkinGen its super powerfull, and gives so much control over the style.

With these tools you'll mostly be able to make a lot of generic human characters, but what about clothing, scars, wounds etc..? Anyway, for indies a bigger problems is that what will you do with these characters anyway, it's not like you can make a huge narrative driven game without quality mocap, voice talent and many other artists for environment, props, music etc..

Those are just base meshes, assets for faster visualization, clothes, accessories and weapons are more than 80% of the job, automated 3D character creation will never replace an artist, what about creatures?

Into The Spider-verse did actually used AI for some of it's creation. It's been a bit since I watched the video on it, but I do remember them saying they used AI for it.

It's just the market share for anything non-artistic will become smaller and smaller. Game worlds will be filled with instant characters, but only for crowds etc. For key characters artistic input is needed. One day AI will create detailed 3d heads based just on one photo. I'd say, the future is not stable to any artist nowadays. There was a time, when paintings and landscapes and portraits were in high demand, but now it's instant and cheap. The same will happen to 3d graphics.

You still have tho, those are only the base meshes, the starting point, you will still have to model all the other assets, cloths, weapons, accessories, etc. They wont appear magically you can buy assets but most of the time they dont fit what you are looking for.

@@Scultronic There is a tool on ue4 marketplace that you can model things inside UE4 and create these assets. Also, There is a clothing system coming for UE4. Sono, UE4 Will make everything. At some point on the edges of the universe, theres a logo saying "Powered by Unreal".

The sample project characters use control rig, UE4's new realtime programmable rig. Watching a livestream or two, I think you can figure out a way of setting it up for a simpler face.

This meta human is cool and all but if you are using the other game engines (you know what I'm talking about), this Meta Human just seems like another thing. I don't want to be an early adaptor so I'll wait until later but I'll watch your videos on I.G about this.

I'm really eager to know what their price point for this is going to be, I can't imagine it'll be free even for Unreal users. If it is then MetaHuman is going to be a drastic gamechanger. Especially if we can drag these models into 3D software like Maya and Blender to edit them further, a skinned/rigged/game ready character maker is just insane at this level.

Megascans are free as long as you use it in unreal engine, I bet it will be the same with this. You can download assets from megascans and modify them in another software BUT you are only allowed to use it for free in unreal, modified or not.

Someone else mentioned that on the announcement video, the unreal engine youtube account replied that it will be free for UE users. So same situation as megascans

If it's almost 5 GB for only two characters, opening the project slows high-end gaming hardware to a crawl, and it's only available in the cloud and not something that can be embedded into a game for character building, then this looks like a cute gimmick but isn't likely to lead to anything actually useful anytime soon. Maybe in 5 years it'll be worthwhile, but for the moment, it's just too heavy.

@@masonwheeler6536these were them showing off, and there's a number of reasons his machine may have been chugging. Either way, this is literally their first iterations, I'm sure there's optimizations to be made here.

Interesting, several things have really come to the forefront that I was planning on funding (once I saved up enough money)... Rapid high-def, fully rigged, interchangeable characters was top of that list. Next was VR interface for 3D modeling/animation/creation. Geometry nodes now allows very easy and rapid "random" generation of pretty much anything (once the layout is built). Two things still missing: Voice activated hotkeys (instead of digging through menus, you just say the name of the tool) which is critical for modeling while *in* VR. LIDAR MOCAP for creators, so they don't have to use those incredibly imprecise vr handles. Then, they can be fully immersed while modeling/animating/setting up scenes. Very similar to how the new LED screens have replaced green-screens.

This looks way better than Adobe Fuse or MakeHuman - but that just means the rest of your environment assets, and animation will also need to match in quality. So there's a good chance more custom kinds of games (where there isn't a ample library of assets already) will still lean into more stylized rendering.

As cool as this is, I'm still skeptical. I mean, generating AAA-tier assets is one thing, but giving them AAA-tier animations is another thing entirely. I can't wait to see the wave of indie titles with photorealistic humans moving around like locked-up giraffes.

For some reason I doubt a lot of indies will make use of this. Most indies I've noticed seem to go more stylized than photorealistic. But that is a funny image I've got floating through my head right now.

@@izumichan31 When I say indie I don't necessarily mean commercial indie games like Firewatch or Void Bastards. I'm also thinking of the one-shot itch.io or indieDB class of indie games (a.k.a. "demos"). Think Slender, Rake, or Sirenhead fan games. I fully expect a fair amount of them to create these realistic human models and then realize they still have to animate them, so there will be a lot of cookie-cutter default animations mixed with some thoroughly immersion-breaking "custom" animations.

Reallusion’s price tags might make more users leave their ecosystem in favor of Epic’s, sorta like how Epic is trying to get Adobe Substance users to transfer over to Quixel Megascans

@@nolram nah, that’s just how competition works. People would go towards the better product. For example, more people go to Walmart because of the better prices, yet competing stores like Target are still going strong.

Quixel Bridge also works for Unity. Does that mean there may be a chance that the exports can be bridged into Unity projects as well?

As a Daz3D, Character Creator, iClone user, this is incredible news. In my opinion, the preview of MetaHuman just made the above programs look like 3G in a 5G world. Absolutely Unreal.

@@nexovec Fair enough, if you are self employed, and working for yourself. Faster is cheaper for you. Make sense. But, if you are working in a studio, like most people do, it will be cheaper for the studio.... while *your work* become cheaper and *your pay check* slimmer.

I really suck at creating human 3D models (actually I suck at all of them except for cubes, I know cubes xD), so this helps me a lot. Most of the time I can't continue on my projects because of 3D modeling blockage. There are some great solutions like MakeHuman and MB-Lab (for blender) but I always struggle to modify those models beyond the basic scaling interfaces.

Another problem specifically with MB-Lab is that it's AGPL license requires you to release the models you make with it under the same on. IRRC, I don't think MakeHuman has that problem with the model licenses.

​@@callmememe1308 ONLY exported MakeHuman models are CC0 and only if the provides assets are from MakeHuman itself (like the assets from the repository doen't count as MakeHuman's owned assets). If you modify the base program, then you have to use AGPL too (depending on what assets you used). Little Info: If you are using Unreal Engine , MetaHuman will be free. It's official. But on note: I think you must pay a licence for it if you are an company with an income of over a certain price. Sady there are only less information on it. PS: If you didn't know it, it will be a cloud driven website. That means you can make a MetaHuman with a potato computer.

Cloud streamed app, is kinda new level of IP protection nightmare? I hope that, such kind of distribution wouldn't overtake standalone solutions in future. Because it's so damn bad to depends on such powerful stuff, which you couldn't control by your self.

You should do another video on it, and display how to use the sample. You'll need to get a iPhoneX or beyond though to provide the full how-to. I need to get one myself been lazy though ;)

I hope they allow licensing for some external usage, contrary to all the internet fanboys of Unreal (who never made anything of note) I don't think it's the best tool for everything and I'd certainly would want to try to use these characters in some other tools.

you can probably import it to another software. Rigs and so carry on to fbx so you'll probably be able to import it to max or blender

I recently tried a demo of Smile Game Builder and immediately uninstalled it when I read the docs and learned that it only works with FBX files from Maya specifically. I tried everything-exporting FBXs from Clara.io, iClone, converting my Blender Collada files to a more recent version of FBX using other software-it only works specifically with FBX files from Maya, and can somehow tell when you’re not importing an FBX made in Maya, specifically. It’s such a dumb limitation that seems to only exist to keep us dependent on Maya even when Autodesk itself doesn’t seem to care if Maya lives or dies (their CAD software has traditionally been way more profitable).

@@JeffreyThrash Maya is very used in the profesional movie and videogame sector along with 3DS MAX. They don't want the software to die, believe. Maybe they are too far from the consumer user, but they are big in the modeling and animation industry.

@@robosergTV well, is not that blender is bad for beign free, blender is amazing. But because is free, there is no online support, or at least at the level you can expect from a product you paid for. Companies aren't paying so much for the product, but for the support.

Anyone having any issues with engine freezing after new 4.26.1 update? Cant work on any projects. Csnt revert to previous update cause not listed and dont want to go any further back due to not having features. Engine freezes doesn't crash does bring up crash report but never let's me click out of either reporter nor engine. Computer locks up 100% 6 core i5 with gtx 1160, was running personal project 120 fps completely fine. Wondering what the issues are after updating. Also uninstalled and reinstalled 4.26.1 and same issues

I'm hoping there aren't restrictions on how we can use the assets generated by the tool. I hope it's possible to make a game in other engines using these assets.

Epic games have gone out of their way not to lock out other engines, and make money of games sold on their store regardless to engine used. The fact this spits out a Maya scene leads me to believe it will 100% work in other engines... it’ll just be easier and most likely cheaper to work with UE

@@gamefromscratch They haven't for 1 reason and for 1 reason only : Antitrust laws. If they would be to go all in in building their monopoly (which they pretty clearly are, and not just for indies) they would get an antitrust lawsuit quickly. It will likely go the same way it is going with Quixel Megascans - they will worsen the quality of integration and make it more difficult to use with other tools to lure people into their UE monopoly (which is currently in the works). As an example, try exporting a 3D assets from Quixel Bridge to Unity. Likely it will take a few minutes, Unity will crash, nothing will happen or the export will be broken. This is an issue introduced in the last plugin update which was months ago and they haven't even attempted to fix it - request to fix it get deleted or ignored. Epic Games is building a monopoly to tie developers to them which in my opinion is awful... We don't need an amazon or Google for game development.

UE4 also crashes in windows 10 if you set the taskbar to automatically hide and open any project, then suddenly a few seconds later BSOD

I don't have such issue( and I always have auto-hide taskbar since WinXP). Maybe your Win10 is corrupted?

@@krukhlis I dont think that my windows is corrupt because it works with all games. This issue appeared with NVIDIA driver version 461.09 and up, if i downgrade the driver to previous version it works with the task bar auto hide. It only breaks with UE4 editor.

@@matiascasag Well, that's an issue with Nvidia drivers, especially their DirectX part. You can find similar reports for different UE issues caused by 461.09+, e.g. answers.unrealengine.com/questions/1006103/view.html There are 2 solutions: downgrade NVidia driver or run unreal engine with Opengl driver: "Run the editor with -opengl4 and tell DX to go to hell".

The fact that you can only export it out to a Maya file is kinda disappointing. Hoping they'll add Blender support down the line. I do wonder how custom hairstyles and clothes are going to work. Whether we can add those to the character creator or will have to add them by editing the exported model (which would make no Blender support even more of a bummer).

The models were originally made in maya, but you can export the UE4 assets and scene with plugins that connect with blender

@@CyberWolf755 Sure, but it sounds like the Maya files come with a proper rigging setup. If you export it to Blender from the Editor, it'll just be the mesh + skeleton.

Can we make some number of characters randomly using this before exporting. Massaging character after import to UE and making copies are a very long process and time consuming. I am looking for a solution which allows me to create a bunch of characters which I can import altogether into my assets under UE. This way all I have to worry about the logic and gameplay.

It's not going to be that easy. You'll still have to worry about clothes, accessories, etc.

@@izumichan31 it depends actually. In my case. Most characters will have same clothes. But otherwise, you are right. However, there should be a solution to this problem because now a day, people don't have much time to do just graphics and compromise the valuable time of logic design.

if such real looking people are put in a game then other 3d models will need to be that real looking and that stretches the sheet a bit too much for an indie i know about 'bright memory' but not all can do that simple art styles are and will be the choice of indies

It's not that it's only works on iPhone, it's that Apple was smart enough to add depth tracking cameras to their phones for more accurate capture. Only Sony has released one smartphone with the same sensor they produce for Apple.
